Just started watching your lessons and they are so full of clarity, and well-paced. I've been a lifetime "ear" player myself, and finally determined to slow down and do the work. Thank you.

My teacher (cello) in high school drilled in the study of JS Bach to help me understand the musical nature of inversions for the bass clef. A reminder to resist this study was needed for me at least. You are one of the few reasons I go on the internet- and I'm in tech😄Thanks!

YES!!!! That's exactly it, Mark. Just using the first inversion can add some life to any groove or walking bassline, or even a solo.

@@richbrownbass ❤Believe it or not, I've never (in all honesty) considered an open E in a Cmaj triad. I've usually looked at it ascending as a country or bluesy walk with the 5th. An open E and low G completely changes the feel. I love your lessons Rich. Although I sometimes feel like a complete dummy, I can still grow. Thank you so much!
@Takato
@Takato Год назад
I appreciate your lessons a lot. In mostly play punk songs on bass, which can be played knowing just one or two shapes no problem, so I lack a lot of theoretical knowledge. These videos are a lot helpful, mainly because you're very didactic. If one day I'm able to improv decently, I'm sure it'll be thanks to you.

When I was in 3rd grade we had two music teachers. One was very nice , but that same year he passed away. That left a very mean evil woman as the teacher. I was physically assaulted by her during class and when my mom found out, she beat the teacher up in the parking lot.... so in short I never learned to read musical notation lol
@richbrownbass

What a sad and funny story. I taught myself to play and never focused on reading. I can get by, but it is easily and by far my biggest weakness. 😢

Thanks for the vid. But is high F low A then D still the first inversion at about 8:44?
@richbrownbass
@richbrownbass Год назад
Good questions, Christophe. It absolutely is. Any configuration of those notes in that specific sequence will function as the 1st inversion of a Dmin triad. I think that's pretty cool.
@christophegragnic8681
@christophegragnic8681 Год назад
@@richbrownbass I really thought it was about the height of the notes, not really about the temporal order. And Wikipedia seems to agree: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inversion_(music)#Chords But anyway your lessons are gorgeous. I hope I can travel to Toronto next year and try to have a personal lesson!
