Is body language universal? Do we all express certain feelings the exact same way? The RU-vid channel ‪@TRYBALS‬ exposes Tribal people to western products, music and videos for the first time. But what can their body language tell us about how they really feel about these experiences? And are there some non-verbal behaviors that don't translate at all? Find out now?

Ha thanks. I often talk about this and it comes down to where my experience came from. Although now I do interview consulting, I initially learned and honed reading people as an entertainer, on stage. Truth is I would never in a million performances pick an Abdul to come up on stage, I have the luxury of choosing people from the audience that are an easier read. Interrogators have no choice. They have to work with the person in front of them.

Hi, I was born blind, and wlth neural heating deficit. My site was restored after about six weeks or so. I will be 80 in September, and suffer from being legally blind, due to severe glaucoma. My hearing has gotten worse over the years. It’s been quite a journey. In spite of everything, I am a natural harmonizer, and have belong to many choirs and small groups. Singing a cappella has always been the best. That’s because when the song ends you must be on the same key you started with. Once belong to a church music group, that always sang for the 730 mass in our parish. We worked together for about eight years, and we got really really good. It was so much fun to harmonize. You just can’t imagine how satisfying it can be to to create a harmony. Hearing and feeling the horror we created was just the best.

As a musician who has performed all around the world, 'reading the room' is always a challenge. Audiences in Japan could just be quietly sitting there as the music plays and loving it while you're thinking, 'Oh man, we're bombing...' Americans are probably the most expressive when they like (or hate) something. You usually know what they're thinking right away.
@jenniferpearce1052
@jenniferpearce1052 Месяц назад
I went to a Pentatonix concert in the US where the audience was so loud in screaming their approval that their singing was inaudible. I think if you like the music, you actually want to hear it and should applaud and scream afterwards. Do the screaming for a band you got dragged to and don't actually want to hear! 😅
@michaelm.1947
@michaelm.1947 Месяц назад
@@jenniferpearce1052 "their singing was inaudible" As an American, I agree. Just one more reason I enjoy living in Japan right now. This is such a positive thing to watch. I love it! Ordinary people are fascinating. I do love the old man too, because he gave tremendous praise by praising the "Ustad", the supposed teacher that taught Pentatonix. By calling the teacher great he inadvertently said that Pentatonix is great. He reminds me of an old greengrocer from my early childhood who used to praise my mother when I showed proper social skills but never gave me a direct compliment for my behaviour. I wonder whether he's always been this stoic or that he learnt to control himself through life experience.

Ive watched Trybals for yrs and it always feels like sitting down with friends and just chatting. Its a good reminder that at the end of the day we are all just ppl and all the categories we devise for each other really tells us so little about each other. Adnan does a good job at letting each of the reactors personalities shine. In a way, behavioral arts is about setting aside preconceived notions of all those categories and just looking at the person. It has practical applications, but i think it also is a way to experience things too... it focuses our observations outwards into reality instead of just in our mind. I was so excited when I saw the thumbnail! Trybals is such a lovely channel! And then I got even more excited when I noticed the reaction was to Pentatonix. I've been a fan since they were on The Sing Off!

I've been watching your channel for a little over a year now and I've also seen this video amongst others on the Tribals channel a couple years ago (which I've always been interested in other cultures and all types of language. I must say, THIS video on your channel is BY FAR MY FAVORITE. I'd absolutely LOVE to see more of this kind of thing on your channel. Absolutely drawn to the positivity as well as my own analysis basically confirmed. This is something I wouldn't just recommend, but would INSIST my family and friends watch with me as well as share. Thank you so much. It actually made my day from downright depressing to manageable and even a little uplifted. Thank you. Thank you!!!!

I really like your takes on people involved in current events, but this was such a fun video to watch. It was sort of a breath of fresh air to see something like this for a change (though when an interestinf interview or something happens, I run to youtube to see what you have to say about it, so please don't stop the other stuff!)

Oooooh, you were so right to be excited about this video, it is SO interesting to observe people from a different culture react to something and trying to understand what their behaviour is telling us. I am all for you doing more of these types of videos, never mind the popularity of the topic, cover whatever you find interesting! I used to work with some people from India and every time I was talking to them about something important, their head would just shake in all directions but mostly left-right. And I was so confused with this that one day I asked one of the guys why he keeps shaking his head this way, he said it was to let me know he was listening to me. That was mind blowing for me because I thought he was just disagreeing with me but not wanting to say anything out of courtesy. Body language is FASCINATING! Thanks for all the valuable lessons Spidey!

Yes! Thanku for this video, the info is very easy to understand and what other words can I think to describe how awesome! The many different things to notice about body language, and then the comparisons, so many things to compare! I am amazed how much there is to know and really appreciate you making these videos.

What a great choice of subject for this weeks video! I love watching Trybals content and Pentatonix, and adding your body language analysis is an epic trifecta. I really liked how you unpacked the baselining process with cultural considerations. I wonder if there are cultural differences in performative aspects of body language, i.e. which body language behaviours are expected to be performed for others and create meaning when they are absent? Great video, thanks for making it :)

Thanks Spidey, that was great! I love their reactions and non-reactions. So fascinating... And to me this has been the epitome of this channel, because looking at people's reactions, whose culture and context I'm not familiar with... make for a great kind of control group which makes me feel like it's easier to be impartial. I have to admit, I've been skipping over some of the "star" videos for this reason, but this one, I really loved!
