Happy birthday Uncle Sam, this video goes out to you! R.I.P. Sam Gangemi 1/29/57 - 1/13/21. Gone too soon....heaven bound, hammer down!
Needless to say, 2021 got off to a very rough start for the family. My uncle passed away after a short battle with COVID, which came as a shock and has been very difficult for us. In these unprecedented times, it's nice to be able to think of memories from the "old days", especially my childhood. Some of the most vivid memories from my childhood were the days I spent riding with my uncle in the cab of his dump truck. This thing was his pride and joy. I'm keeping the truck in good shape for right now, while it isn't being used. I've posted videos of it to RU-vid in the past, but decided to do a full in-depth review for my subscribers this time.
The truck is a 2007 Peterbilt 357 high-hood (heavy hauler), tri-axle, with a 565 HP Cummins ISX, 18-speed transmission, Eaton 3:90 rears, double-frame, set-back front axle, Hendrickson lift axle, and Benson Manufacturing dump body. He purchased it new in 2006, just before the "379 family" of models were discontinued and EPA mandates began requiring the use of diesel particulate filters (DPF's) on all trucks. Pretty neat to think that this was the last of the "good" Peterbilt trucks, and quite possibly the last high-hood 357 built (I would love to find out for certain). He put nearly 450,000 miles on the truck in the 14+ years he owned it, and always took excellent care of it. This truck was rarely seen dirty.
I am planning to practice for my CDL with this truck, so hopefully I will be able to drive it within the next year or two. When that time comes, I would like to do some driving videos from in the cab. We'll see what happens this year - hopefully the rest of the year isn't as bad as this first month was.
