Resizing an interior hollow core door by trimming the bottom side to compensate for increased height of new tile flooring and provide additional clearance to stop door from catching on bathroom rug.
When placing a rug (bought incredibly far in advance) after a lengthy renovation process, I realized the new tile flooring was considerably taller than the previous flooring and the smaller gap under the door no longer provided enough clearance for my rug (or really any rug for that matter).
I was glad to discover that it is possible to resize both the height and width of a hollow core door due to a solid wood frame around the edges. Although, it is also possible to cut too much off and compromise the structural integrity of the door and/or end up needing to repair/replace the block frame. Luckily, the amount I needed to remove was likely within the range to avoid such problems.
While this felt like a bit of a challenge at first to take on myself. It ended up being much easier than I thought, and it was well worth the effort. I decided to share the results in case it inspires anyone else to tackle a project they thought was out of their reach or who also has a rug they can’t part with. ❤

Cut along line
Lightly sand
Prime and paint
Seal any gaps/cracks
