I travelled aboard ÖBB Railjet Xpress from Munich to Vienna, the express connection between Austria and Germany. For this journey I took Business Class seat, one of the best products on European railways.

I've ridden Business class on Railjet a couple of times. If you have a Eurail Global first class pass, you have to pay an extra 15 Euros. But it was definitely worth it. I think you get a free drink or beer with it.

My wife and I recently went Bratislava to Zurich. Long trip (about 9 hours) but some of the scenery, especially in the latter part of the trip, was absolutely stunning

Yes, the route especially from Salzburg through Innsbruck and Feldkirch offers stunning scenery. I traveled from Vienna to Bregenz a month ago and to Zurich in the spring, so I had the opportunity to see both the summer and winter version :-)

I took the same service to Salzburg recently and I quite enjoyed the ride, though I only really spent the time drinking beer and eating Schnitzel bun with a colleague in the restaurant section. But looking at the interior DB trains somehow always always have slightly more comfortable welcoming vibe. But overall a great travel experience.

Hi Pete, always nice to be able to follow you in your Trip Reports on video. I love escaping by train like you. Coming back to your trip, the Railjet is a great train 🇦🇹 somewhat my favorite. I also took it in March to go to Wien before going to see my ancestors in Prague 🇸🇽. On the other hand, I found the toilets not great in 2nd Class. I paid €26.90. Thanks so much for watching! Especially the section between Munich and Salzburg is beautiful.. I have prepared another video from journey on the Railjet, but in the opposite direction from Vienna via Innsbruck to Bregenz via the Alps, the views are even nicer there :-)

Railjets are one of my favourite trains in Europe. Used the ÖBB version from Vienna to Budapest in 2017. I used the ČD version from Vienna to Prague in July 2023. Both times in economy. I felt they were better or just as good as many first class seats.

Wow! That's another great review that you got here :) I noticed that there were literally no stops at all for this service within the German territory until Salzburg,.... that makes the journey extra fast to be called RJX ;) However, I noticed that the coach in which you are sitting had a lot of rattling noises which isn't comfortable when it runs at high speed. Honestly, I didn't expect to hear this on board a rail jet since they are known for their high-quality service. Keep it on with your hard work, I'm sure it will pay off one day 😊😊 Cheers from M'sia

I wouldn't call the route between Munich and Salzburg fast. This part wasn't improved by Deutsche Bahn for Decades. It still has no priority to improve speed and infrastructure bei Bavaria and DB. This is a huge topic between Austria and Germany. I don't want generalize but Austria here has put much more money into railway than Germany. Its fair to say that finally Germany is willing to improve infrastructure but it will take decades.

Thanks for watching. That noise is common with these trains and in reality it is not so audible, but as it's relatively quiet in the train, the microphone picks up those sounds more sensitively. This noise comes from the interior, which is common with other trains as well.. Greetings from Prague to Malaysia :-)

Díky moc :-) Za mě jeden z nejlepších vlaků v Evropě, dokonce mě překvapilo pár úprav, které ÖBB udělaly v railjetech, např. posuvné dveře na toalety a sklo v infopointu.

Thanks for sharing. We leave Australia in 5 days and will be doing this trip. But stopping in Linz to see family and Salzburg to play tourist. Cant wait.

Opět palec nahoru a kloubouk dolů za titulky skvělá práce 👌. Líbí se mi celé provedení od začatku do konce a finální shrnutí včetně cen opravdu dobrá motivace k cestování vlakem i v zahraničí . Jen bych uvítal informace kde si konkrétně pořídit ( jízdenky, místenky) myslím tím dostupnost atd..

Díky moc! A také děkuji za námět, já jak jsem zvyklý kupovat jízdenky přímo od dopravců, tak mě to ani nenapadlo.. uváděl jsem to jen tam, kde jsem koupil jízdenku přes jiného dopravce (třeba PKP lůžkový vůz před ÖBB). U dalšího to doplním.

@@PeteBrandy super třeba po ČR to lze třeba několika způsoby (aplikace ČD, RJ, atd...)pak v papírové podobě. Doufám že jsem se vyjádřil jasně o co mi jde 😉

@@brabino22 jj, chápu to, já v 90% kupuju přes mobilní aplikaci, 10% přes web.. takže ceny většinou beru podle toho kolik stojí online.. když příští video co bude jsem kupoval lístek ve vlaku, ale to počítám že tam napíšu :-)

An excellent trip on one of my favourite train sets. A couple of points - firstly, I have found the layout of business class varies in that the trains I have travelled on heading to Switzerland have been of an open configuration whereas others have been like the train you travelled on; secondly, OeBB seems to work on a fixed fare for a journey with a reservation fee of €3 for standard class, €6 for first class, and €15 for business class. I am looking forward o trying out the Railjet2s next year (if they are introduced on the Innsbruck - Bregenz route).

Railjet is also one of my favorite trains. Otherwise, most Railjets are configured with semi-compartments in business class (the one I traveled with). I think there are 8 ÖBB Railjets with an open configuration of Business class, they were Railjets from a series of 15 for České dráhy, but České dráhy ended up buying only 7 Railjets, the rest remained with ÖBB and now they mostly run on the Wien - Venice route. The prices for seating are probably different, today I traveled by Railjet to Salzburg on an Interrail ticket and I paid €3 for 1st class reservation :-D Otherwise, I am also looking forward to the new Railjet 2 being in operation.

Did you notice that the control car looks exactly like the front of the Taurus locomotive? On the next generation of Railjets the conrol car looks like the front of a Siemens Vectron because they're planned to be pulled by a Vectron in Railjet design like the now operating ones have a Taurus in Railjet design, sometimes replaced by a "regular" ÖBB Taurus (I've seen a trainset parked in Salzburg a few weeks ago) and with the new Nightjet it's the same. Sometimes, when I visit my family in Leipzig (Germany), I take the Railjet on this route between Salzburg and Munich or back.

Railjets are great trains. Yes, I didn't mention that the control car is the same design as the Taurus locomotive because I assumed most people knew that. Btw. The 1st generation Railjet can also run (and communicate) with a Vectron locomotive, the 2nd generation will also be able to run with Taurus locos (ČD already tested Vectron with Railjet and they will probably use 1216 locomotives with ComfortJet sets initially, before delivery of the new Vectrons for 230 km/h).

@@PeteBrandy That fact was mentioned when ÖBB introduced their new plans for the new Railjet/Nightjet series. It can be that the vectrons can't be delivered on time so they can use Taurus (1116/1216) instead. To be honest - I didn't care what kind of loco is on the train, as long as it moves (I'm originaly from Germany, now living in Salzburg for over a year and in Germany any kind of loco is fine, as long as it moves. I've seen a 143 (former GDR 243 electric locomotive) on an IC service.

@@Brauiz90 You wrote about Salzburg and I just returned from Salzburg today :-D Yes, that's right, I think that initially the new Railjet 2 will probably be operated with Taurus locomotives. ÖBB has a lot of 1116 / 1216 and Vectron in the 230 km/h version will probably come later. I know BR 143, I had it in my Modelbahn :-) It's the same situation here in the Czech Republic, recently locomotive 362 (Eso) hauled a Raljet set due to broken 1216.

Pěkné! Úplně jiný level než nějaký IC Schönbrunn :D Tím to trvalo 5,5h a stavělo to na každém rohu. Jen mezi München a Salzburg 4 zastávky

Díky! To každopádně.. za mě je ÖBB Railjet jeden z nejlepších dálkových vlaků v Evropě.. tak ty InterCity ze Stuttgartu nejsou moc výhra, to je spíše takový spěšňák.. Navíc moc nemusím dvoupodlažní vlaky a ještě to má v 1. třídě uspořádání 2 + 2 :-D

Ahoj Pete, zajímavé že červený railjet má kupé narozdíl Modrého Tj , vypadáto luxusně, jsem zvědav až budou Comfordjety,, něco podobného bude mít vlastně OBB ale v Nightjetu

6 červených ÖBB Railjetů má také stejné uspořádání jako mají ty modré ČD, ale to jsou ty neodebrané (původně měly ČD odebrat myslím 15 railjetů).. jinak modré railjety mají jiné uspořádání, protože ČD chtěly větší kapacitu v 2. třídě, takže se muselo vše nacpat jen do jednoho vozu.

Díky moc! Zatím je to takový pokud, uvidím po měsíci jaká bude odezva a sledovanost.. je to jedna z možností mít volitelné CZ titulky, další pak je udělat extra CZ kanál.

I boarded after the destination screens lit up. In some carriages, it can be seen that other passengers are already sitting there.

Mne nějak moc nezajímá komfort a jídla ale radši bych se rád dozvěděl o technických novinkách, rychlost atd tou trati jsem mnohokrát jel, ale pred lety Jaká je teď. Např v Německu byl rychlý pouze úsek Mnichov Rosenheim cca 160 km )hod

Za týden jedu z Linze do Innsbrucku railjetem a chtěl bych vědět jestli se vyplatí zaplatit 15 eur více pro business třídu? (samozřejmě už mám jízdenku do first třídy)

Já se řídím podle obsazenosti. V srpnu jsem jel Railjetem z Vídně do Bregenz (také přes Innsbruck) a v 1. třídě byla ještě volná dobrá místa a naopak v Business už jen místa v kupé, tak jsem jel 1. třídou.. ale v září z Mnichova 1. třída celkem plná a Business skoro prázdný.

Dost mě zajímají ty Railjety druhé generace když u nás to je Comfortjet :D A zaujalo mě to, že menu mají v i češtině.

To mě taky, mám pocit že jak se píše všude jen o nových Nightjetech, tak úplně utichly informace o Railjetech 2 generace.. co jsem pochytil, tak se mají od ComfortJetů celkem lišit, multifunctional car bude nízkopodlažní a v některých vozech by měly být i kupé, ale objednalo se jich poměrně málo. Ano, to menu mají v jazycích zemí kam jezdí vlaky ÖBB (plus samozřejmě Angličtina).

I think the same as in 160 km/h, there was almost no difference.

Almost everytime, there is a problem with opening the door between carriages. I think people don´t want to look dumb, so nobody complains.

@@PeteBrandy Ono defakto jednička u ČD stojí dvojnásobek a je to jen o barvě potahů sedaček... Tam by to měl navrhovat člověk, který má cit pro cestování vlakem.
