We continued our conversation with Roger Green, CEO of NITE watches, diving deeper into the history of tritium watches and how he was instrumental in bringing this technology into the UK. We also explored the current range of NITE watches as well as what the future for the company would look like and these two words came up - Swiss Made.

My NITE failed FOUR TIMES within the two year warranty period and NITE asked me to pay to fix it. I worked in an office at the time so it wasn’t getting hammered. First the strap snapped in two. Straps snap so no biggie, but it wasn’t abused so bit miffed. Switched to a 3rd party nylon. Then, crown started grinding and the 10y battery died. Sent it in, fixed for free as under warranty but eroded my trust in the HAWK’s durability. Then, 2 weeks after the 2y warranty ended the movement failed completely. Watch stopped working. Nite wanted me to contribute towards the cost. I disagreed based on the ‘luck’ I’d had with it. They said, ‘Yeah, this never happens!’ £450…wasted. Thing is, I loved the watch, asked to speak to this guy. No joy. Bought a £20 Casio. Still works with no issues 8y later. Reach out NITE. Do the right thing. Or not.

Loved watching this interview, and hearing the enthusiasm and the passion that Roger Green has for his Nite watches, and for the tritium that is used in them.

I’ve worn a Traser at night times and it is absolutely brilliant. It served me well in hospital 3 times and at all times during the night I knew what the time was. Especially useful in a hospital when the nurses put out the main lights. Nite watches are definitely on my list. Great video.

Good to see that Nite are firstly, still going, but to see them develop is very encouraging. To top that, it is good to see that you are keen to use Selitta movements. The likes of the Sinn U50 etc. are great, slim, mainly due to the inclusion 300 version of the movement and built like a brick outhouses. I love quartz, too, especially with a 10 year battery. My only issue is that a few I have seen for review is that the second hand does not always hit the indices bang on. I might be wrong about that, but they just sometimes do not appear to always seem spot on. The last point, is please don't let prices get out of control, because as it stands you seem to make exceedingly good value timepieces that knock the competition away. Great interview, I look forward to the future with great interest.

Enjoyed the presentation. I wore my ISO Brite as my casual/sport watch continuously for 10 years. It’s finally ready to be replaced. I was looking for a casual T100 lit watch with a submariner look. After a lot of research I found the Alpha that appears to check all the boxes. I would love to see the use of 904L stainless band opposed to the 316. My 13 yo “date just” in 904L still looks brand new.

I bought the very first Traser and I remember when Roger used to answer the phones! What a true gent 👍 I own Marathon, Traser and Nite. All fantastic watches I was looking to replace my original Mx10 with a newer one but you’ve caught my interest on the Hawk! Fantastic bit of history and presentation Cheers 👍

I've been wearing a Nite HAWK for the past 4 years or so.. Excellent. I'm especially proud of owning a discontinued blue / orange T25 with the old logo. I hope you bring this scheme back eventually on more watches.

I have an Alpha and it's a wonderful watch in so many ways. Very well made, the quartz movement is exceptionally good and the second hand hits every mark on the chapter ring precisely, it has an excellent precise bezel mechanism, the lume is superb. Its one flaw IME is the design language of *very* sharp-cut edges; this means that the upper serrated rim of the bezel acts almost like a rasp on any sleeve worn over the watch. And the cutaway ends of the lugs leave four prominent sharp "shoulders" at the corners of the watch, especially with an aftermarket strap. If NITE could just bevel these edges down a fraction this would be the perfect sports/dive watch. The new NITE Atlas automatic field watches look really good!

I undestand modern tritium vial tubes however at 2:02 I'm still trying to figure out how older painted tritium compound was made. Tritium is a gas so I'd like to understand how it was made into an organic compound and then mixed with zinc sulfide?

Great review, at min 3:47 the MX10 looks great with that nylon strap,why did they take that away and now the MX10 has this polymer strap on it,it takes away the field watch look from it.I would buy the MX10 now if you could have a nylon strap on it.I hope the maker of this watch takes note of this,it's not just me but I've read quite a few reviews of others saying the same thing.

I've been saying that for years. I thought they would have fixed that by now. If I could put a 20mm nylon strap on one it would be on my wrist right now!

@@johnhoney7903 I have an MX10 and the body is great, fab night illumination, excellent accuracy, looks nice and not overstated. But I frigging hate the strap. Fiddly and awkward to get the strap into the catches. I still wear my Nite watch because of the other good points, but I would love to replace the strap with a good nylon strap.

@citizenwolf8720 Год назад
Update on this: I finally replaced the strap with a Zuludiver Seaqual strap. Due to the lugs on the MX10, the new strap is, imo, a tad narrow for the overall size of the watch. However, it's a lot easier to close and open than the original polymer strap that came with the MX10. I still really like the MX10 though (which is why I went to the effort of getting a different strap for it).

Commenting on the lead in: I wouldn't expect the tritium lume they used to paint on watch faces will move a geiger counter needle very much. Tritium beta decay is very low energy with very low penetration, stopped with a sheet of paper. In the lab, we have to drop tritium into scintillation solution and detect the beta particles emitted using an instrument with high sensitivity photomultiplier tubes. Granted, tritium can more easily escape from a painted dial than a glass tube, but still, that's going to be pretty small. And again, not something you'd likely detect with a geiger counter. There were a number of other radioisotopes used in the past for watch lumes and many of those can be easily detected with a geiger counter, but not tritium.
@TheTyrial86
@TheTyrial86 6 месяцев назад
The tritium is a gas. You don't paint it. However, there were other types of paints that would glow that were used and would move the Geiger counter.

Whoever was modelling the watches for the wrist shots should have worn the watches properly on the wrist where watches are worn to better demonstrate how they would actually look during real wear.
