Triumph Bonneville Bobber/Speedmaster/Thruxton. Budget motorcycle Paddock stand, & How to use it! 

For anyone having an issue with their paddock stand not having enough leverage, you can put some 3/8th steel rod through the rear axle to get a higher point of contact for the paddock stand. works like a charm and saved me having to replace my expensive stand for a low profile version.

You should be compensated by Triumph for producing these invaluable and informative videos. I am seriously considering the purchase of a Bobber Black. (Ontario Canada)

Another great video Stuart, nice looking stand I use a Oxford paddock stand that works and can recommend it as well. I think the bobbins you’ve used look better than the standard Triumph one’s i’ve fitted, keep up the good work.

Arm length, leverage and weight capacity are key! I have two paddock stands. They do clear the rear license plated but won't lift the very heavy Triumph Bobber. I bought a hydraulic center lift that works well.

Stuart, the stand works well but my only concerns would be at that precarious moment when the weight of the bike is off the side stand but not fully engaged into the bobbins. As you say practice makes perfect when using this piece of kit. Not totally sure why people would comment on the price of motorcycle related kit or tools. I have found through experience that sometimes paying that bit extra for quality stuff is sometimes worth the investment, particularly when it comes to hand tools. The first time I put my GL1800 onto its centre stand was a momentous occasion, my back has never been the same since! To that end I have just ordered a new lighter weight GL1800 Goldwing for delivery on 1st March to coincide with the new registration. Opted for the DCT version as I quite fancy the idea of having no clutch, i assume that it will be very similar in operation to the DSG gearbox as fitted to my Golf R. Ride safe sir.

The stand you’ve demonstrated Is indeed the TFC Thruxton paddock stand and well done for sourcing it. I have the Triumph bobbins but as you know the Oxford paddock stand just will not do the job. This reminds me why I got a Bonneville T120 and not a T100. A centre stand is kind of basic in my humble opinion.

Hey Stuart. Now I'm not really a fan of the 'Blobber', but I really enjoyed this video. The usual high standard and very instructional. I think the first time anyone tries to use a paddock stand it can be quite daunting but a short dose of how to do it and confidence is inspired. Any plans for changing the front pads on the T120? Thankyou sir.

Just to agree with previous comment from Henry, surely a 'vintage' pre war styled bike ought to have the Old Style of stand that flips up and is stowed need the rear Reg plate!?🤔 The Paddock stand Bungs would have to be replaced by some type of hinged affair. Modern materials ought to be both light and strong enough. That way you have a stand on the bike and keep the Paddock stand for the garage. Cheers Keith

Good vid as usual. I feel this is one of those areas where folks are being penny wise and pound foolish. If one is spending upwards of 12 to 15k on a bike, why on earth would you skimp on the tools to maintain it? It would be like buying a Ferrari and fussing over the cost of the tires when replacing them! I bought a quality stand and never have to think about it again. A small investment compared to all the other gizmos and gadgets we buy for our bikes!

Nice but would work out way to expensive for me Stuart. Not so much the stand itself but having to buy all the decking and have it fitted so i could get the off cut. So i'll give this one a miss mate. Great video as always though lol...atb Dixie.

Hi Stuart, so I have a 2009 Speedmaster 865, which, like the Bobber, is also low. Unfortunately it doesn't have any lugs under the swing arm to put a bobbin into at all. Would you be able to recommend something that would work (or point me in the right direction), or am I resigned to using a scissor lift / hydraulic lift to do the job? Thanks.

Could’ve done with this video when I first popped my Yamaha mt01 up on stand, scared me half to death!! Out of interest, for some reason, I always lock the front brake on with a strap so the stand slides under the bike rather than the bike moving back, not sure if thats a recommended way of doing it, I suspect I was just scared of the bike moving.... It does mean the wood stays in the right place. Anyway, useful video for the uninitiated. Hope pup is recovering well.

Ridiculous that most bikes don't come with centre stands these days, perhaps a company like motone could make an old style rear wheel stand like the old Brough and Vincents used to have, just a thought....great content as usual Stuart...

Since they've gone to the trouble of putting the lugs there to mount the bobbins, I would have expected Triumph to have a paddock stand in their accessories line; one of the first extra purchases for my Daytona was the Triumph paddock stand designed for it. Much pricier than this piece but also higher quality. Looks like that one works OK but also looks like a "get what you pay for" item.

Hi Stuart.. I need a paddock for my Bonneville SE and can't find a suitable one here in India. I don't wanna fix a centre stand coz of ground clearance issues. Can you suggest me a suitable paddock or links to some sellers. Thanks

Thanks for doing these detailed instructions for using a paddock stand. It's one of those things I was unsure about but didn't want to expose my ignorance. All my bikes have had a centre stand, so I haven't needed a paddock stand. However, I'm not too happy with the Triumph centre stand I had fitted to my 2016 Scrambler, so am looking at other options. I think there are other designs of paddock stands that don't require bobbins (my bike doesn't have lugs for them). I do wonder if those designs are secure and won't damage the paint on the swing arm. I'd appreciate any comments about this.

Hi Stuart, hope your well, I'm the guy that made you laugh by buying the Oxford front paddock stand by accident! I sent that back but I am still waiting for the rear Oxford premium stand, its been nearly a month now. They have offered me the Oxford big black stand at a massive discount instead, do you know if this fits the bobber/speedmaster or if its any good??? Thanks mate.

Nice video, but will this work on a thruxton 900? I would much prefer bobbins/spools over L adjustments but can find anywhere to screw in the spools to swing arms.

Can you straddle the bike and push forward on the bars to take it off the stand thereby reducing the possibility of the bike falling over ?

You would have thought that with the lug holes and the lack of a centre stand they would have pre installed Bobbins. Or would this be Triumph after market accessory £££

Hellooo, Stuart.. I just bought a 2005 bonneville t100 air cooled. Naturally, no center stand, AND,,for some reason, a ghost to find. The first thing I did was buy the same spool type stand your showing here. Then came to find there are no spool holes,,,,at all. So I returned the spool stand and brought one for the swingarm. A generic,fits all stand. Problem now is the stand hits the rear brake caliper and even the mufflers, before the brackets hit the swingarm. OMG TRIUMPH,,, what are you doing? I see they sell axle spools. But then you can't change your tire, without doing a Three Stooge's skit. Ridiculous. No center stand, impossible to find paddock stands that fit. What's next,,,a block and tackle? I don't like the jack under the skinny frame and the sump hangs down twixt the cradle, so a nice lift has to be perfectly fitted to work around it. All this because Triumph decides,,,no center stand for u. I, like u, never had a bike in the past with 0, center stand. Now I fall in love with a sweet Triumph,,,,and this happens. Guess I'll have to pull the pipes,just to use the stand I bought. Thanks Stuart Dig ur vids.

I've got a stand I use for my Thruxton. Exactly the problem you describe. It's ok when it's up, (isn't it always), but getting there is like a gym workout. I'll hang on till May and watch your review of a quality item. If I'm going to replace the stand, and splash out on a new one, I'd much rather cry once.

Centre stands should be standard, full stop.

Excellent bike, better than all harley, but the chain is a little snag.

I think this bike needs the Harley sporster or 48 petrol tank to me theres just something that is not right :: tank or seat or back fender I do like it but just carnt put my finger on what's wrong with it just my opinion

Typical chinese tut.... I recently purchased and returned 2 wheel balancers (1 was a replacement for the inferior one lol) because of poor manufacturing standards and lack of quality control. High time they stepped up their game and focussed on quality instead of price... like the Japanese. I trust a product with a label that states 'made in Japan'. Sadly 'made in the PRC' fills me with dread.
