OK we're back on Greg's Silver Jubilee Bonneville and continuing with the assembly. We thought that the end of the tunnel was in sight, but now were getting into the detail, this can take as long again as getting the major parts sorted. Included in this video is another moan about the quality of pattern parts - just look at this wiring harness.

I had to laugh when you chucked that pair of exhaust header clamps in the bin !

Entertainment at its best lol. I should retrieve and sell really. Apparently as Rick has advised - they’re for the push in pipes.

It's amazing how just putting the headers on makes the bike look as if it's ready to run. P.s. I know wheere to email you now, thanks Angus

Those alloy finned rings were actually the correct ones for the year, because that would originally have had the push in downpipes, so the rings are only decorative. That head has been converted, with the screw in exhaust stubs to take the push-over pipes with the heavy duty clamps. A better arrangement (I did mine years ago), but not original. My carbs never had a screw on adapter, the hoses went straight onto the threaded part, secured by the clips. Those round pin multi-plugs are the original type for the handlebar switch connectors. They are not very good in the long term, because the vibration causes wear on the pins and they lose contact. They should have a steel spring clip to lock the two halves together. I replaced mine eventually with compact multi-plugs with flat 2.8mm pins. These give a good electrical connection and lock together positively. They are tidier than having individual bullets, and better than the originals. I bought them from Vehicle Wiring Products, along with double crimp spade connectors, with separate, clear PVC insulator sleeves, like the originals. Another reminder, I can't remember if you've already bled the rear brake, but if you haven't, it's a good idea to do it before you fit the lefthand silencer, as you will have to pull the spindle partially out to allow you to drop the caliper to a position where you can bleed it.

Cheers Rick as always. That explains the issue with the header pipe clamps. I didn’t twig that as the Bonny Special I bought new in ‘78 had the further revised screw in clamps for the headers. Thanks for explaining the wiring connectors - as the new handlebar switches and bullets I’ll go with the same as I have them in stock - I solder by the way - never crimp which I detest. Thanks for reminding me about the rear brake bleed before fixing silencer. Cheers.

One of the few subjects I enjoyed in Physics at school - no problem it’ll just take time and patience like everything.

Just got done with a silver jubilee several months ago, installed a boyier electronic, and burnt the wires between the coils, talk about senior issues & converting to 12v American standard. Any suggestions appreciated, although it's up n running again. Love my britt bikes

Hello Harold and thanks for the interest and comment. I'd check that the coils are correct and not damaged. Boyer will advise what voltage coils you require as some run in series rather than in parallel.

I personally don't see an issue with the spade and multi connectors personally. Not original maybe but that's all? . Lots of items on the bike already has spade connectors so just get male and female ones to suit. easier than The multi connectors are a modern connection which is supposed to be more secure. I personally don't like the bullet type as they always seem prone to corrosion and poor connection(s) Bikes looking fine and dandy puts my T140ES to shame!

Hi Richard - I don’t mind space connectors it’s just that in this case they have very large and hard plastic insulators which take up a lot of space. I’ll leave them where possible, I.e. connecting to the headlight switch and warning lights but where the incoming connection is already a bullet eg from the handlebar switches then I’ll change the main loom terminator to a bullet too. Thanks for the kind comment and interest.
