One of those instances where the review is so good, you talk about the video more than the bike :) I've probably watched every English-language video on the Speed 400 out so far, and this is my favourite of the whole lot! Loved the camaraderie and lightheartedness here, and so glad you didn't bother going over the specs like every other channel. Normally, I'm not a fan of two-men-sit-around-talking-about-things sorta content, but this is an example of how to make it work - even without a lot of exciting on-road footage. Your chemistry and sense of humour made this a delightful watch from start to finish. Y'all are naturals at this! Please do more 🙏

It was no accident that Bajaj/Triumph released this in India first. Given the extreme riding conditions there, any quality control issues with the new bike/engine would show up right away. So far I have not heard about any. I also think they made a wise decision to make it look more like a Japanese bike than a Triumph, which should broaden its appeal. If they can keep the price below US $4,000 when they release it here next year they won't be able to build enough of them.

I think they will announce a Tiger 400, around the end of this year. The reasons they have waited are 1) they wanted to sell as many Speed 400 and 400x as possible first 2) They wanted to see the finished 450 Himalayan before they finalise the design, in the same way they wanted to see the Hunter 350 before finalising the speed 400 design and specs

The real reason why they won't make an ADV is because KTM will be pissed and ktm sales of the adventure will dissapear, and rahul Bajaj himself has said the tie up with triumph was to enter the classic space cause they already have ktm for the performance and adv space. Bajaj cannot cannibalise its own other brand ktm. Ktm is a stronger partnership since they own 49% stake in ktm. I knew when the triumphs released that they would do something on the ktm side for it to continue to be a value proposition and they did just that, they updated the 250 and 390s quite significantly without too much of a price bump. Definitely the 390 adv for someone interested in touring is a better proposition than the scrambler so there is that. And for race enthusiasts of course the RCs are the way to go. So overall Bajaj is playing a solid game.

Brilliant review boss. Concise and informative. 1. I'm picking it would be a happy tourer at highway speeds? (a windshield is a must probably) 2. How does ride quality change from (80kph->140kph)? Especially engine perf and vibrations 3. Did you notice any speedo error?
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
Thanks. It can tour on the highway, just that I am not a fan of street motorcycles for touring. Ride quality is good till 120 kmph and beyond I was not so pleased. Ans that's simply due to my preference to adv style motorcycles. Speedo error of about 5% is built-in all brands.

Nice video again and think why should it be so tough to create such bike that too when two of the industry leaders in some segment come together and considering the capital, R&D, tech, industry and design knowledge they have and when Bajaj which already has built same capacity engine for KTM and Dominar and Triump being a champ in high power bikes across all bike categories this outcome should be a general expectation 😊 and can you plz share a bit more when you say it has a good engine and why is this more suited for city being a higher power bike and not for highways
@pravinmurthy
@pravinmurthy Год назад
Coz it's the best city ever sold in India under a crore!!.. I'm not exaggerating 🤷‍♀️.. It's nowhere near to have that tag for highways understandably as 500+cc bikes mostly will be even better..
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
Agree. This engine is rideable right through the rev range. We've mentioned in the video rhat it can pull from 40 kmph in 6th gear all the way to 140 lmph that we took it to. That's what's is special about it. The torque spread is great.

Have a good look at the cylinder configuration, its basically a Stroked Dominar 400 with even the compression ratio remaining the same. Shifting the drive chain to the other side is just a diversion tactic.
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
OK and if Bajaj has access to tech to make an engine so so good then why stick in such an insipid engine on the Dominar I wonder.
@ashwinprakas606
@ashwinprakas606 Год назад
@@bigbearbangalore It's natural progression, the Domimar shares the same bore and stroke of the Duke390 which it was based on, the T400 is just a stroked version of that copy. And this is not just my speculation, the proof is in its own data sheet where they're mentioned the cylinder configuration along with its compression ratio.

After watching many reviews I was confused whether I switch to triumph or stay with hunter. After watching your review now its clear I will switch to Speed 400. But some people say we must avoid the first batch production units. Please shed some light on it.. do we really need to worry about 1st batch triumphs? Thanks in advance
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
Well, can't say. The skeptics winter buy the first batch while the trend setters will go ahead and enjoy from the launch. Only time will tell. However, I think Triumph and Bajaj would set things right swiftly even if a thing or two were to go wrong.

Happy to share with you that I have taken delivery of my speed 400 a week back. And thought of writing down my impressions here. Bike's looks, performance and handling are nice. But a few negatives also I want to share. Lost the foot peg grip(that rubber piece) on the way back to home in a 80km ride, noticed only after reaching home. And there is moisture inside the meter console which limits the visibility of the readings. Triumph asked me to bring the bike to the shworoom and fixed a new foot peg grip for free. But they have not done anything regarding the moisture issue. They said it is like that for all vehicles. A little disappointed on that. If somebody else also find this issue with the bike, please share. Thank you
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
Congrats! I think thst the moisture entry issue should be resolved under warranty. Other brands do this. Not being able to read the instrument cluster due to fogging or moisture constitutes a risk and a danger to the rider and other road users. Take this up with Triumph & Bajaj and demand a replacement. Regards.
@princemichael2556
@princemichael2556 Год назад
@@bigbearbangalore thanks alot. I will take this up with the showroom once again. What happened last time is, the moisture appears only when its sunny otherwise it will not appear. When I visited the showroom it was not visible. I thought it was ok then. The showroom people said the meter console is made like that to prevent cracking of the glass part. So if we pressure wash moisture will get inside, so we need to cover up that area while washing. Unfortunately they only washed the bike before delivery and caused this issue.

users feedbacks are very good on the Triumph speed 400 and cheap service too. Even on the scrambler which is not an adventure bike but a taller machine sufficient enough for dusty village roads, stony mountain roads or veins in the rice fields. in fact who is really going to do REAL off-road? very few people. Not only do you need a well prepared off-road machine but you also need very good physical condition. Or you can be an "adventurer" with the Royal Enfield tours.

Nicely done Boskey & Co! Tell me, will you be able to fit those triangular Rynox Nomad saddlebags on this? and what's the difference between a Scrambler and an ADV? So, this or the Scrambler 400X for 90% solo highway touring with 10% off roads, like Ladakh, Munsiyari etc? Or should I wait for Himalyan 450? My current bike is a Meteor 350 with 20,000kms under it's belt, and I'm craving a little more oomph, like kick in the butt torque surge from my brother's Classic500DS.

Take the bags to the showroom and check if they fit. 🙂 That's the best way to know for sure. If you are not in a rush to buy, wait a few weeks for the rush to cool off ans then you can spend more time at rhe showroom with the motorcycle.

One suggestion: if the presenter is speaking about the saree guard please add clips showing the saree guard. The camera man should walk over to show the saree guard. Or if it's shot on a tripod you can shoot the parts later and add it in editing

Good summary about the bike. Quick question, how are vibrations on the bike above 100? Can this bike do 120 to 140 comfortably with an after maket windscreen on highways? From everything I've heard ppl are a bit disappointed with how the bike preforms at higher speeds as its not great in the top of the rev band..
@vzvish357
@vzvish357 Год назад
from what I've read&heard so far, this is a good "city bike" with decent highway capabilities I dont think S400 will be relaxed at 120-140kmph
@pravinmurthy
@pravinmurthy Год назад
The bike is good for a max of 130kmph cruise on the meter on highway.. If 140 is what you seek then KTM 390s are better..
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore Год назад
It's quite good at 120 kmph. Beyond 120 kmph the wind blast is high, vibes creep iin and the motorcycle is little too small for comfortable consistent riding at those speeds.

For some people the main problem with this machine is the compact neo retro naked style and the non aggressive engine. The Triumph is not a Ducati, a racer bike but it has a easy smart punch. It's like a good wine, round and mature. May be Bajaj will create a surprise next year with the Pulsar NS400. it's main competitor today is the Harley 400, heavier, slower but nice bike. Triumph is killing Royal Enfield on 400cc even with the new more refined Scram (200kg).

This one or the hunter 350? Which one is good for occasional weekend rides and mostly city commutes but has to have a torque engine which puts a smile on the face. I understand that this is a better motorcycle overall. I am not sure if its worth the additional money that we should pay when compared to hunter. Would appreciate your response on this .
@bigbearbangalore
@bigbearbangalore 9 месяцев назад
Vastly different in several areas. You must ride them to know better. Out on the highway, the Speed is clearly superior. And if budget is no issue, it's the choice.

Great review. Would you recommend speed 400 or a used Duke 390 of 2022 make at similar price for someone upgrading from a 150cc and looking to retain the bike for around 5 6 years? Usage would be 60km daily commutes on mostly country roads and weekend 300-400km rides, with mild offroading towards destinations
@bigbearbangalore

The Speed 400 is more versatile. Ride both and see what you find more comfortable.
@kp6425v
@kp6425v 10 месяцев назад
@@bigbearbangalore have ridden the Duke extensively and I love it on the highways. Within city confines, the only irritant is the constant need for lower gears. The speed test ride location does not allow for checking high speed ability. Over the short distance, I found the engine tractability as the major highlight over the Duke. How different are the bikes on a highway ride?
