I recently purchased the beautiful red “chrome” edition ex demo ST900. It’s awesome, has all the power I need for real world riding, endless torque and it must have one of the best sounding standard exhaust notes going. A real thumping old school twin soundtrack. Add to this the name and build quality and attention to detail and honestly. It’s a blooming brilliant bike!!

I bought a Trident last summer , I fell in love with the triple engine , but I’ve now ridden a ST900 with my partner in the back , oh boy , I made a mistake, gotta trade the Trident in for one of these ❤

I have to say that Triumph is knocking it out of the park with their retro style classic bikes. I love the Bonneville Speedmaster in that range. Such a great bike, although it's £14k.

I have one of these( chrome edition in hopper red) and I love it for all the reasons you mention. The standard seat looks great and is very comfortable and being a 'shorty' the 765mm seat height is perfect for me. Could you give me the name/ model of the soft panniers and frames fitted to the test bike please. They look great and are just what I'm looking for. Many thanks for your review!

I went to the Triumph shop yesterday to see bikes. The vendor told me he sell a lot of Speed 400 to people of 70+ years old. They want something lighter than their old bikes and apparently they are all satisfiyed with the Speed 400. You should have a look ;)

Great review. I have a 2020 model in the 'Iron stone ' paint finish. I absolutely love the bike. Only let down by the awful Pirelli phantom tyres. Upon reading comments in various forums most folk who have changed the tyres say that it's a ' day and night ' transformation.

Yep the Phantom tires are weak in the wet and look ugly. Mine’s a 2020 too and I changed the tires the day I got it. Using Pirelli MT60 160/70-17 in the rear and 110/80-18 up front. Just perfect, gnarly looks, awesome grip. It’s the same that comes in the Ducati Scrambler Iron, check it out.

Nice vid Alex. I’ve just chopped in my Ducati for one of these in Ironstone. Loving the relaxed lazy power. Plenty for going for it and easy in town. Did the little flyscreen help at all and what helmet are you wearing? and how are you finding it, comfort and noise. Cheers.
@BikeMatters
@BikeMatters 9 месяцев назад
Nice! Glad you're enjoying it too. We reckoned the fly screen helped a tad, but having not ridden the bike without one - not too sure. Looks cool though! As for the helmet - www.ruroc.com/en_gb/atlas-4-liquid-carbon.html Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Liquid Carbon. Very comfortable, not too noisy but not silent. Built in audio/intercom is a nice touch too. 60mpg(4.5L) is 97km/4.5L so should be able to 192km per 9L leaving 1L which should get you 19km so 211km per 10L leaving 2L in tank to stop crap being sucked into fuel system or you could use another liter of gas ⛽ for emergency still leaving 1L in tank.210km(132miles) per 10L would be my minium as that seems to be what I do regularly but would have to top up to get home & back into town about 57km after a run with my mates.My Trident 🔱660 averages 4.5L per 100km but spirited riding see it as high as 5L per 100km & frugal riding is about 4.3L.My Trident 🔱 has a 14L tank & I've done 230km a few times & topped it up & put 10.5-10.8L of gas ⛽ in so 255km per 12L. I have mixed info about range on Speedtwin 900 some say at top up gauge says 100miles others say 140miles per tank but manufacturers leave a margin of era so if bike says 100miles actually be at least 120miles.Also the fuel bars on a bike are roughly 1.5L each minimum & the last bar is about 3L depending on the bike but this sounds right for 900 Triumph so 130miles on a out 10.5L.Triumph states 68mpg & 288km per tank but I find this hard to believe & reckon 57-60mpg is more realistic but Triumph got Trident 🔱 fuel economy spot on at 100km/gal & Trident 🔱 does 290-300km per tank a 14L tank.So 288km seems a stretch at 100km/gal which will be about 260km max. I would love to know what 5-6owners of 900 Speedtwin's reckon how many miles per gallon(4.5L).

@@ruahinesrider I have a 2021 Street Twin which I bought 2 months ago. It still wasn't run in! I regularly get 300km per tank, although I start looking for fuel at about 250km if for no other reason other than my bum won't go any further. I live in a regional town (Australia) and most of my riding is on back roads and highways with quite a few long rides (500km +). Not much around town. Also, at 77, I don't thrash it - those days are long gone.

@@ruahinesrider I also was concerned about the size of the tank before I bought the bike, but its not been an issue. As mentioned, my bum gives up before the tank is emptied. Main reason I bought the bike was the seat height - I have a serious case of duck's disease and it seems to be getting worse as I get older.

@AdamForeman
@AdamForeman 9 месяцев назад
What bike license do you have right now? Here in the UK, you need to pass various tests to pass your license. However, the bike you can buy, is restricted by your age, by engine size and length of your experience. So if you were 18 years old and never had a license and bike before, you can only buy a 125cc motorcycle. If you already have a full license, try lots of bikes/manufacturers first at your local dealer. Bigger engines means it's heavy and needs to be ridden in a more slower, touring, cruising way. If you want a more faster bike, try 400/600/750. It's lighter, more easy to flick through twisty country roads and fast on straight motorways. After you've tried a few in each cc, you'll get the feeling which one is more exciting and more of your own taste. There's no point purchasing a Triumph Rocket 3 and then realising it's not quite as nimble as a lower cc dedicated adventure/sports bike
@flesz_
@flesz_ 9 месяцев назад
@@AdamForeman thanks I did my licence in 2001, it's full licence. I had MZ 250 bike for a year which I was fixing more than riding lol Now after so many years I'm looking to get something . I like retro look of Bonneville T120 or T100 as well as speed twin I was also considering MT07, which is apparently fun to ride, but obviously I prefer the looks of triumph. Will definitely test ride a few before deciding
@AdamForeman
@AdamForeman 9 месяцев назад
@@flesz_ the Yamaha MT-07 is a cracking good bike! If you love Triumph's, try the Triumph Trident 660. As for it's competitor's, try the Honda CB650R, Kawasaki Z650 or the Suzuki SV650. The MT-07 is definitely a good choice. Good prices 2nd hand too from dealers coming up to the winter season when bike prices drop.

A great review but how can it be “best of British” ? I endured 3 years ownership of an early street twin and had many problems, both electrical and mechanical. It spent far too long back at the dealers. I wouldn’t buy another until the well documented gearbox selector failure issue was admitted and addressed. BTW, I used to average about 70 mpg when it was actually on the road.
