I commute regularly in NYC got a Speedmaster 1200 a few months ago after being Tboned on my street triple. It has been a bit of a change in riding position, but definitely so much more comfortable and city friendly than the Striple, not to mention much louder and noticeable on the busy streets.

i nearly bought this exact Goldline model but ultimately i went with the T120 mainly because i carry a pillion quite often so the extra power is useful. Also having the cruise control ready makes it a true all rounder bike. I also think it's a very easy bike to handle if you can respect how torquey this bike is.

In 2020 I had it narrowed down to the 2020 750 Moto Guzzi V7 and these Triumph Bonnevilles/street twins. Something about the Guzzi being air cooled and shaft drive made it that much more classic/unique for me.. I know Liquid cooling will get you more power but all it takes is a good sized rock or crack in a hose and you're stranded.. All great bikes to ride I'm sure.

I really wanted to buy a Bonneville and then I rode a Royal Enfield Interceptor and had a great experience. Let's just say I saved $5000-6000 and am building the bike how I want it. This is a great motorcycle but hard to justify $12,000 for a new one when the INT650 exists IMO.
@rabbidbabies4094
@rabbidbabies4094 Год назад
I paid 12000 for a t120 which is a lot more bike than a t100. If so,done is charging 12k for a t100 then you need to find a new dealer.
@lukelowe918
@lukelowe918 Год назад
@@rabbidbabies4094 a brand new T100 lists on their Triumph website for $11,295. The state I live in charges 6% sales tax so add another $675 then there is always some setup fees of some kind. So just with taxes alone $11970. Pretty easy to buy a T100 for $12,000. Give me your dealer name that is selling a T100 brand new for less than $12000. 😆
@rabbidbabies4094
@rabbidbabies4094 Год назад
@@lukelowe918 you do make a point. I was thinking msrp. After all the other fees it'll probably bounce up to 12k. My friend just got the INT650 and it seems like a nice bike. I'm skeptical on build quality so I'm going to wait and see how it treats him for the next 3 years. I can see my self getting a Meteor for fun.
@lukelowe918
@lukelowe918 Год назад
@@rabbidbabies4094 I was skeptical on build quality until I did my research. These new Royal Enfields are designed in the UK, frames built in UK, brembo Brakes, Bosch Fuel injection, American Made shocks and the rest is built in India. So far it has been flawless. I just rolled over 500 miles it has one of the smoothest transmissions with a super light clutch. The thing I like most about it is it a very basic old school motorcycle and I can do all of the maintenance on it myself. I am a automotive mechanic with 20 years experience and would put the build quality of the major components on the same level as triumph. The minor components like turn signals and the like are all things I would of changed myself so I don't mind them being cheap as long as they function until I repla e them. For $6000 I don't think you can get a better deal on a new motorcycle in 2022.

I have a T100 and love it too 😁. These days I simply can't comfortably maintain over 80mph on any naked bike. The T100 lacks a 6th gear that's true, but at an indicated 70 mph it's pulling 3500 rpm which is right in the torque sweet spot. Consequently, it's extremely efficient and returns excellent fuel economy at that speed - plus, overtaking is easy for the same reason.

SO bottom line : If Tim is buying with his heart he wants a new V7 :) . So much to say about living with the Bonneville 900 twin ..It is a wonderful motor and the gear and clutch set up are smooth as butter .. I have 15K on my SS and have loved every minute .. Being a dirt road and winter rider I did just get a new chain and sprocket for the drive train .Ready for another 15K . Love the V7 Tim and long for its shaft drive but it does not come with heated grips :) Yours in New England , Guy

Why this focus on these bikes as “city bikes” or “commuters” ? As a youngster a 500-750 was a big bike. I’ve got a Street Twin 900. I’ve ridden it to the Arctic Circle, Southern Italy, Switzerland and as Far East as the Polish border. I rode a CB500 to Corsica in 1979, no one told me it was a city bike or commuter, it was just how I got around.

I don't know how much the bike has changed in recent years, I've an '02 (Centenary Edition). The suspension, especially the front, was too soft from the factory; Race-Tech internals make a world of difference (also Ohlins shocks). Front brake was rather lacking, and Triumph went way too cheap in not even providing an option to mount a second disc (even my '73 Yamaha TX500 had a boss on the other fork leg, and a factory dual-disc conversion kit available). And the lack of a 6th gear can be annoying at times, can't count how many times I've tried to shift up from fifth. Front brake was handled by mounting a Galfer Wave rotor (twice the thickness of the stock item) with steel lines (and EBC sintered pads), now it stops as it should have all along. And there is really no reason not to hit the road on this bike, I've done several rides in excess of 400 miles in a day, one over 500. Could have gone further if needed.

Why would you call this a city bike? Its quite an insult for a machine that was originally designed to travel across the country! People have been using bonnevilles to travel across Europe for ages now and many go even further. We live in an age where there are 250cc adv bikes. Speaking of city bikes the t100 is quite underwhelming in an urban environment, every 125 will be more manageable and efficient maneuvering through traffic, while still having enough power to manage bigger roads. I mean there are people who have traversed the globe with 650s, only because there are 2000cc+ motorcycles out there does not mean that 900cc is small i beg to differ! Comparing spec sheets is easy, every one can do that, how about you actually ride a motorcycle to its limits and see how far you can get. You dont need 100hp to go to the highway, you dont need 1200cc to have endurance and you sure as hell dont need an adventure bike to cross a country back to back.
