I'm 82, a AFM and AMA flat track and road racer still at it building classic road racers here in Hawaii. Loved to see the line up and the Kawasaki 900 caught my eye. I mdon't ride any more because I'm in a wheelchair after some strokes, but that does not keep me from building them back to the glory days of road racing in the 60's and 70's.
I'm in a wheelchair building classic racers, I don't ride anymore. I would like to and I think I can but if I crashed it would be very bad so I just admire my work and it keeps me busy Here in Hawaii. I'm just about done building a 1963 Honda CB77 racer.😇
As always I appreciate this channel 🤙 I can tell you spend a lot of time not only researching bikes but how to deliver quality videos throughout. Thanks
I frickin love that seat. The headlight bothers me, but I want to try one. Maybe a bike worthy of trading off my hypermotard 821 (but I kinda doubt it...)
@@boris2997 peanut butter and jealous No, but really. Ive just come to spread the joys of the hypermotard to the world. Everybody should go buy one. More bikes should be this fun. I've got more than just the hyper, I've owned dozens of bikes buying and selling. It really is just that great. Oh, and they're cheap to buy used. I can't afford a new xsr900, but I'd love to try it
Some years ago, I'd dream of having a CB1100, an Urban GS, a Thruxton RS... Now, as years go by, I want them less and less. I'm rather happy with my Interceptor 650. I have had the opportunity to upgrade, but I seem to always go back to it. I tested a Ducati Scrambler, an Urban GS and also a V7. ALl fantastic bikes and I have nothing against them, but where I live, those bikes cost at least twice as much as the Interceptor, but definitely don't feel like they are twice the bike. Well, that's good news for my wallet then!
I'm trying so hard not to buy a INT 650 money wise, but it's at the top of my list. Gotta convince myself I get the same effect from my Honda CB550 74'
Another bike that should have made this list is the Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer or Bobber ( personally I like the Roamer ) Thinking of getting a reasonably priced retro bike in the spring and, at the moment, it's between the Street Twin and the Roamer, which was updated this year to give around 65BHP. Air cooled ( nice and simple ) and shaft drive ( zero chain maintenance ) But still I can't decide. Need to do a test ride, or two.
I'd go for a Triumph Speed Twin any day and if price was no object, I'd still go for the Speed Twin. I'd put on the Ohlins front and rear shocks from the Thruxton, a set of Vance&Hines or Akrapovic exhausts and call it a day.
As much as Triumph knocked it out with the styling and Yamaha nailed the fun factor, the Kawasaki Z900RS SE sold me on the power delivery and the sound. It’s heavenly to ring out to redline.
The Z900RS SE would be the perfect bike with its handling options, but I like the look of the Jaffa colour of my own Z900RS better. If the SE had an up/down quickshifter and maybe a bit more power with a bigger engine so as not to lose the existing low down torque, I would seriously look at it.
Liked the comprehensive video. If no money constraint, then I would go for Kawasaki Z900RS/Ducati Scrambler Tribute Pro (For modern retro look), if money constraint: I would go for Ducati Urban Motard
About Beeline, I use it for almost 3 years now on my Benelli Leoncino 500, I got it thorough KickStarter and I just love using it. No errors what so ever. About the bike here, my 3 picks would be: 1. BMW R9T 2. Kawasaki Z900RS 3. SUZUKI katana
I like the XSR700 Tribute with the exposed tube frame. Also the price is reasonable. I also like the Suzuki SV650. Both nice bikes. No need for 100+ hp on the street.
After seeing the Rizoma handlebar alternative for the Katana, I have to say that it would be the one I'd buy out of all these options. It ticks all the boxes and has the performance to match the looks!
I’ve got the 2020 speed twin, with some upgrades. And I love it. Just love the look. The only other retros I’d consider are the z900, the bmw r ninet and the Indian ftr. The only downside to the triumph and the bmw is that servicing euro bikes in my corner of Canada is an adventure.
I chose the 2020 Speed Twin over the R9T and Z900, and I love mine too! Care to share and compare upgrades? Here's my list: alum headlight bezel, throttle spacer, factory heated grips, Dart flyscreen, Tec X-pipe decat, Motone Saturn V silencers, Motone Union Jack clutch badge, Triumph tank bag, and a pair of Kriega saddlebags
This is a really tough call! I like the Yamaha a lot, and Ducati always looks nice. I have to say though, the Kawasaki Z900 RS SE looks pretty amazing. Take it a really great job with the looks on that bike. If I had the cash, of course I'd ride them all but I'd probably take that one home!
Great video, very informative. I have the Z900RS and love it, but it’s a big powerful bike and not for everyone. The 650RS should expand the audience and sell very well. I think all the bikes will sell well.
This is the video that I was waiting for! I can't really decide on a good classic bike been going back and forth with different kinds of bikes just can't seem to decide. hopefully this will give me some insights
The Z900 would be my choice out of these , perhaps your head would say the XSR because it’s just brilliant the engine and performance are way above the price point and still the daddy
We bought 2 x Interceptors, which we've modified slightly to make them scrambler-ish. We are intending to take them touring in outback Aust. We love our bikes.
I really like the look of the Katana, and I like the Triumph Bonneville range. I know the xsr900 is a fun bike. I got to ride one a few years ago and I enjoyed it immensely. I don’t care for the styling, however. Personally, I think the Honda CB650R is the best looking retro. I could stare at it for hours. I am disappointed that you didn’t include it or it’s big brother, the CB1000R.
Cb650r is very beautiful but it is not retro. It has so many modern touches and the only thing retro in it is the round headlights. But i agree! It is beautiful.
Lots of great new bikes out there. The Z900RS is still, IMHO, a cut above the rest. The Ducati Scrambler is also cool and you can't look past the heritage, authenticity and character of the Guzzi. What you can look past, of course, is the ridiculous; mock BSA contraption.
For me if I’m going to go “retro” it’d be something that’s actually still pretty old (read: simple) and inexpensive (like a used Yamaha SR400, for example). Easy to work on yourself, don’t feel bad taking an angle grinder and a welder to it, and even after heavy modification you could have two for the price of one. My current bike is 1900cc and for the same price I could have three used retros and cash for modification… makes me often wonder if a 250, a 400, and a 650-1300 ish used retro would be cooler to have than one new modern bike with a GPS and a bunch of features I can’t fix tweak or work on in any way whatsoever.
Money no object, I think it’s got to be either the Speed Twin or the goldline T120. But for my actual hard earned cash, it’s the Kawasaki Z650RS, I ordered one as soon as they were announced! Ordered on the looks! I was already considering a Z650 or Ninja 650, so the RS was an obvious choice, I had been eyeing up an XSR700 as a happy Yamaha owner, but the looks just don’t do it for me, the new XSR900 looks even worse in my opinion, I appreciate they are going for something in their looks, but with the sharpest Japanese sports bikes, their modern retro and naked range just don’t look as good. I would really love that BSA, but I doubt it will ever be imported to Hong Kong, we don’t even have Royal Enfield here now. Have you heard of the Brixton 1200? A bit of a T120 competitor on a budget that was also announced for next year.
Speed Twin is the answer for me but the Z900RS is very tempting as it takes me back to my late teens, looks best and I think touring on it may even be fun
I did a tour in Ireland with mine a couple of years back. Some soft luggage from SW Motech and I was away. The Wild Atlantic Way was ideal country for this bike.
The Ducati tweaks and paint jobs look good, especially the Tribute with the heritage logo, so I’ll go with that if you were buying me a present (then again, the Z900 does look and sound like a great bike). Otherwise, I think the BSA has the looks and (I assume) character so would get my money, at the right price of course. NB. I’ll stick with the V7 for now, what a joy it is 🙂.
Clearly the interceptor 650, with money left over for aftermarket silencers, YSS shocks and fork kit, flyscreen, DNA air filter etc. All the power I need for road use and great sound.
I got a beeline a year or so ago. They are class. Just make sure your phone doesnt put the app into your "background sleep" section other wise it wont work propperly
Having had a Tenere 600 back in the day with that blue and yellow paint scheme I have to say the XSR900 is tugging at my heart strings (and purse strings). Money no object? I'd be torn between the Z900 and the Katana and I don't know how I'd manage to make the final choice. Another great video BTW!
The Z900 RS is just so beautiful.. I would be looking really closely at it but would want to ride and XSR900 and an R Nine T before I made any decisions.
Thanks Rob , Great eye candy all around //// As an old guy driving back lanes I would like maybe 80 hp and a shaft also wonderful shocks and brakes .. That points at Moto Guzzi and BMW ,, It would be an R80 BMW (with a new version of an Earles fork) if it was still made ... The R nine T is still in my sites .. That Ducati 1100 is a class act as is all the Triumph range .. I would own a Trident for a 3 month run just to get used to it and give it away (if I was a flash B .. :) Same with a Yamaha T7 ... What a wonderful time to love motorcycles .. We do need a new category of bike .. One with medium power that runs on low octane with amazing shocks for crummy roads Great brakes and shaft drive . Medium price is ok because it would last forever say $15 K .. Funny I think I just described a 1979 R80 ... :)
I am in an Eternal Love with my prestinely maintained 22 years old Yamaha RX-135,5-speed, Two Stroke Motorcycle! I like the Kawasaki 900 RS SE for its smooth, flowing style but prefer the old katana style long exhaust! Good Job!
If money is no object then of course Triumph Seed Twin will be the ultimate choice . But if i have to buy one then the Street Twin EC1 edition looks very good.
Merci pour votre chaîne. C’est toujours pertinent et instructif. J’adore la créativité de vos montages. C’est un vrai travail de pro. En 2022, je vais acheter ma première moto; probablement un modèle rétro 😀. Continuez votre excellent travail. Happy holidays to you and your family. Stay safe.
After watching all your videos on the new bikes coming out this year (and a few other channels too), I put my deposit down for an XSR900 early last week. I loved the outgoing model, but the new one just grabbed me (seat hump and all), so I just went for it. I have no doubt that I won't be the least bit disappointed when it finally arrives in June/July time this year. I'll be sure to keep an eye out on your channel for any further content on it in the mean time
I'd go for the RE Interceptor if *I* had to pay for it, and the RE Interceptor if *YOU* paid for it, too. The reason is cost of maintenance, insurance, and protection from theft - which I assume I'd have to pay for. The Kawasaki Z650 is tempting, but those wandering down pipes are just too ugly.
Easy for me. The retro 900 Kawasaki. I remember when those bikes came out. Still some of the most beautiful styling ever put on a great ,powerful, reliable motorcycle. Now it's water cooled and fuel injected. So much better.
I’m riding a 2002 gsx1400 & I can’t see anything that would tempt me off it the kwaki 900 looks the best , what it needs is a better seat & bigger tank to increase the range so your not stopping every 5 mins to fill up
1. Choice: Ducati Scrambler Nightshift or the orange Tribute Pro at 8:22 2. Choice: Motorguzzi V7 All three are beautyful motorcycles. But I'm glad to have a matt black 2016er Triumph Street Twin... I love this bike und hope to keep it as long as I get my leg over a motor bike saddle. Next spring the machine will get its 32000 km inspection.
I’m old enough to remember when the originals these retros are based on were new 😳….if I’m spending someone else’s money I’d pick the Suzuki Katana, but I’m saving my money with the hope the new BSA Gold Star comes in at reasonable price 😉🏍👍. (I have a soft spot for big singles….or maybe they’ve just rattled all my brain cells loose over the years🤪!)
In this styling category for me it is Triumph first, followed by Kawasaki, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Royal Enfield, BSA and Honda when they decide to play.
The Gold Star is beautiful!! When I was in high school I had the scrambler version, the Victor 441! I remember watching road racing, and the Star in full RR form. Nothing else sounded like it with that huge piston and megaphone exhaust! I still have marks on my leg from 'starting' the 441! No electric start there! Bring the engine up on power stroke then kick while pulling the compression release!! LOL If you missed it, and it back fired, it would take a divot out of your leg with the kick lever!! I'd have to buy one for the memories!! 8) --gary
I like the Thruxton but the more affordable Yamaha makes more sense atleast for me at this time point and the saddle looks like it could keep you planted
Wow... they all look so nice. I'm in Australia so we really don't know if most of these are heading to our shores yet. The BSA is the one I will certainly be buying if it comes here. I'd love the new Z900RS but it may be too pricey.
I've done the big bike thing..my big bikes were the ones that are being "homaged" now so id be interested in the Beezer as a step up from my incredible meteor 350
I love many retros esp the Royal enfields GT 650. But I cant have more than one motorcykle and I cant part with my Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory so its just a dream.
Money no object, hands down for me would be the new Triumph Speed Triple RR. Simply gorgeous with performance to boot. Fills the niche between a naked and a true sport bike. More budget oriented, I would have to go for the Triumph Gold Line Thruxton RS. I would love a Speed Twin Gold Line if the suspension components were on par with the Thruxton.
Mmmmm... Not a single word on the SV650x. What a shame you missed that bike. The only one with clip-on (a truly retro touch), a magnificent engine V-Twin, excellent build quality (the only japanese brand that manufactures in Japan), way cheaper than a Ducati or a Triumph. It's not the most retro shaped, but it definitively has a clear retro 70's style. If money wasn't an issue I would probably choose the Truxton RS ton-up version. So rad, so unique. But for now, I'll continue to enjoy my Sv650x 2018 ;)
If Yamaha offer Ohlin shock for XSR900, it's not just going to be the best performing retro for the street, it will be an insane track bike as well. New MT-09 platform is just much better than the rest and the quick shifter... Don't get me going.
I've owned more Yamahas than any other brand, but the current crop are all so ugly in my view. They may ride superb but they are so hard on my eyes. If somebody gave me the money it might be the orange 1200 XE Triumph aesthetically. I'm still looking to spend my own money on something 170kg or less with 30hp+ in 2022. I just might go mad and spend more than I should on a CCM Maverick.
Agree with this, especially the new XSR900, I don’t understand how it manages to look worse than the outgoing model. As a current Yamaha owner I really wanted to like their naked and retro offerings, but they just don’t do it for me.
I test rode the interceptor 650, excellent bike, then the triumph street twin, again excellent bike, I eventually bought a Moto Guzzi v7 850 stone.... it's a cracking bike and very characterful. I definitely don't regret my choice...
