Did I score an amazing deal on this Golden Tee '99 arcade machine, or did I haul away somebody else's trash without getting paid? They also say, "you get what you pay for," so maybe that's what's in store for me with this project...?

The mystery of whether it was a kit or a conversion makes it even more interesting. Your videos are always informative and enjoyable to watch. Thanks, Shawn -- this project has been on the backburner for a bit, but I got a bunch of additional PCBs to try out from my friend Troy at Troy's Restorations! I had originally told my buddy I'd have this game ready for his garage by the end of the summer... oops!

I actually found a golden home edition at a thrift store. It's is just the control panel. And I have been thinking about making a 3/4 with that as the base. I'll have to find an old CRT though.

Believe me, I *wish* this was an Atari Gauntlet as that would be a lot more fun! This is definitely a Golden Tee cabinet though, as the Gauntlet cabinet had many differences: twin over/under coin doors, speaker grill integrated into marquee, different control panel hinge setup, etc. etc.

To help with the rolling effect on the CRT, see if your camera / phone has the ability to set the sync to match the CRT. If using a phone the default camera app doesn't allow you to do this, you'll need a separate app that allows you to change the shutter speed.

Thanks! I've tried tinkering with these settings before, but some CRTs seem to be a lot trickier to lock in than others!

Just saw you on shelion gaming. So I have started building my own 3/4 scale machines, just for me. I try to get as accurate as possible. Where possible I do buy the game to go with the cab. I am just finishing my SW cab, and Robotron.I build what I can from scartch. It just a hobby. My biggest hurdle is getting the art work. I do have a backround in graphics, My question is. Have you ever had to made reproduction graphics from scratch?

Thanks for watching! I’ve never had any custom reproduction artwork made for myself, although I will need to do that for an upcoming project. There are a few different companies that will do it though, including GameonGrafix, Arcade Art Shop, and Szabo’s Arcade. I imagine you can also work directly with a print shop if you’ve got your own design files.

@@overtimearcade I actually have a lot of toys(large printers,lasers,cnc,3d printers). So I try and do as much as I can myself. I have had to do some heavy photoshop repairs on marquees and side art graphics for my cabs, but never had to start from scratch.

There are some websites with high-res scans of original artwork, but they often get taken down by the original copyright holders and the repro shops often put a lot of effort into correcting/touching-up the scans and don’t want the files shared I think.

Robotron should be relatively straightforward to vectorize or whatever you’re trying to do. SW is far more detailed.

My friend has a golden tee 3D golf 98. When turned on the screen just turns green. Anybody have some advice where to start troubleshooting it. I’m going to take a look at it tomorrow. Any info would appreciate thanks.

Could be a few different things with either the monitor or the game PCB. Is the game "playing blind?" In other words, can you hear sounds & start a game even if there's nothing displayed on the monitor? Always start with power & connections. Has the video cable somehow become disconnected? Is the power supply producing the correct output voltages (+5VDC, etc.)? Do you have another video signal to connect to this monitor (either another game or a test pattern generator [TPG])? Do you have another monitor to connect to this game PCB? That can help isolate whether the issue is with the monitor or the game PCB. If the problem is with the monitor, it's probably an easy enough fix -- perhaps a color transistor shorted out or something on the neck PCB. If it's the game PCB, that could be a much more difficult problem to solve, and it's likely cheaper just to buy a replacement GT'98 PCB than to repair it. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
