Hi Norcal,. I have a Vizio E550i-AO. With the back cover removed, it looks very similar to the set you worked on. The symptoms I have are a good image shows but the lower half of the screen is in a darker shade. It's still visible but significantly darker. I removed the ribbon cables from the main board to the bonded boards at the bottom of the set. Half of the screen disappeared vertically when the ribbon cables were removed. When put back, the screen looks the same, darker at the bottom half. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks
I had the same issue on Vizio m50-c1 half of the screen comes up fine with one side TCON connected to the lcd panel.. when both connected, I get blank screen. tested out all caps short .. i even changed all caps... short coming from glass lcd side ... Thanks for sharing ...
I watched your video and liked how informative it is. I have an issue with my lg led tv the ribbons are good and the t con board is good but on the bottom right hand side it apears the the inside ribbon attached to the screen is over heating? Wouls this mean a bad screen?
It might have worked to swap the cables, but in my experience, usually the ribbon cables have different pin counts. For example, the other might be a 41 pin cable and the other one a 51 pin cable. I've seen many LVDS-cable problems in LG-panels and most of the time you can see the defect with a magnifying glass, as the cable has not made proper contact with the connector. You can see imprints between the actual contacts in the cable, indicating a bad alignment of the cable in the connector

I have a vizio vo320e that I believe is the tcon/mainboard but not 100% sure...No video with sound and the backlight is working...Remote does control the volume/channels like normal so I'm not sure if this model has the tcon built into the mainboard or separate. Thought you may have some insight on this model?
On my vizio model P42A due to making a poof sound i opened and replaced a blown fuse then i only had sound no picture so now i changed the y sustain board. I do have picture now but its a bit dark and not clear. I adjusted the picture settings and didnt fix the problem. What would you recommend for me to do to fix the problem?
Very informative. I have a Vizio V555-H1 and I have the power led comes on then goes off. Backlight stays on I have checked those and they do all work fine. I have changed out the main board, power supply board, and tcon still no joy also swapped out the power cable & checked with the flashlight test and NO image. So any suggestions does it appear to be the lcd panel?
I have the same Vizio. The interface board that holds the cold cathode tubes shorted and smoked on the top left tube. I ordered a used board. do you have any tips for a rookie on installing it ?
For anyone who has a Vizio LED, LCD, or Plasma I seem to have a problem getting to the service menu to pop up... I held ch + & ch - at the same time while power is off for ten seconds, then try to attempt to push power button on, but the tv turns on by itself when I hold the channels buttons, anyway I continue to hold them for ten seconds then release any then hit menu but I don't see no "F" on bottom right for factory. I push and hold menu again with mute and exit/last buttons and still no service menu! Any help or ideas?

hi, so if my t-con board is good then when i unplug one of the ribbon cables half the screen should come on as in this viedo? and this means the panel it self is bad?
I have a Vizio D50X-D9. I pulled the panel to replace the backlights. It has some of those bonded tabs on each side of my screen, 5 per side i believe. The tabs appear to have a small metal piece in them. When I put my tv back together I had no screen. When I slide those side tabs back down into the side frame I got my picture back, but one side is dark and I have random horizontal lines going through my picture. Did I ruin it, or is there a technique that I need to know about putting those side tabs into place? I already used tape to secure them down. Any else that I can try? Thank you in advance.
I assume you mean left side drives right side and right side drives left side. The pin outs are usually mirrored (reverse) of each other and since the ribbons only have conductors on one side you would need crossover cables. I suppose it could be done. Great question.
hi do you mean by something is loading the data down to the lcd panel that the boards are working correctly and all circuits are active up to a break in the wiring inside the panel and assuming there no connection defects found in the tabs or connections to and from the tcon [even with the use of freeze spray] ///not sure if this is my case,all tabs seem secure no change with freeze spray// ive got a 60 inch 2010 sony all bonding tabs [16] are on the bottom of tv and using [4] driver boards each pair from the tcon connected by flip up connectors using plastic circuit connectors that are similar to the flat ribbon connectors to the tcon in construction.These were crumpled during assembly resulting in cracks in both in the middle and looks as though a connection or 2 may be affected,however when i swapped sides with the worst one it didnt effect the right side of the screen with no picture problems,the issue with the left side is that i get a see thru mainly red vertical band [top to bottom]turns pink on lighter backgrounds,blue and hardly distinguishable with the logo screen,and is gone with black and on some scenes with bright lighting ie outdoor or price is right,otherwise depending on the background color of the video the red transparent bar will break up and become choppy otherwise it will be a solarized picture just between the bar [ie looks like a heat signature] also one side of the bar begins at the same point the screen turns white when disconnecting the left outer driver driver board [resulting in a quarter white screen] cant seem to find a closely comparable scenario,and was hoping that you or somebody may be able to advise between the likelihood of it either being a tcon/ panel/ or undetectable tab problem.//my thanks to all that took the time to read
Norcal, I have a Samsung UN46D6420 that started with horizontal lines and progress to a black screen. I do have audio and back light. I took it apart and found that if I disconnect the Left side on the T-con I get half of the display to come up. The same is not true with the Right side it stays black. I notice that you mention on this video it was the panel vs the motherboard/t-con. What lead you to believe it was the panel vs the right channel on the board if that makes sense.
Would a bad T-CON board cause the screen not to come on period? I have an older Sony Bravia and if you repeatedly turn it on and off the picture will eventually come on and be beautiful. But if you cut it off and try to cut it back on, theres no picture or sound.
lg 47lb5900 has thin black horizontal lines spaced approximately .25 inches apart from top to bottom. the lines are visible but faded near the center of the screen. any thoughts?
I've got a Polaroid flm 2601 LCD tv. Video works on all inputs except in RF tuner mode. The raster is there but just snow. No audio in the RF mode and no headphone function. Also it will not channel up and seems stuck in channel 5 also with snow. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have an RCA 42". I can turn the tv on and off, can hear sound, change the channels, and can see the backlight. But there isn't any picture. Can that be the Tcon board because I see no bad caps.
I have 3years old SAMSUNG mod.no. VA 32H5500. On turning on my TV it works normal for few minutes and after that slightly flickering of screen starts with double image and subsequently vertical faded lines as well as horizontal lines appears with smoky pictures.What would be the proable cause & its solution.

I have Vizio VW42LHDTV10A with a similar problem except the sections are separated as upper and lower parts of the screen. Could that also be a defective panel? When I got the TV the screen was black and the power button would not turn it off. I replaced the U33 and now have the blue screen with the "No Signal" moving around until it gets half way down the screen then it turns to white lines down the center vertically.
Sir I have an lcd 42" newly bought... But I Used it only 3 and a half months only......... The screen went black... After Some test I made... I figure out that the Audio is Ok... And There are Image too (tested via flash light)... I think now that the problem may be the back-lights Invertors... But I just cant situate the invertors yet and how to Fix My Hitachi 42"... Hi Norcal, I have a Samsung pn50b450b1d white/gray transparent vertical lines in front of the picture. The picture quality is good; it's just that the transparent gray lines are in front of the picture. I changed the logic controller and had the same problem. What else could this be?

Howdy. Just been given a JVC LCD LT42DG1. Starts with clear picture then within 10 secs has green vertical lines with distorted picture. Tried HDMI with same result, tried no signal at all, lasted probably 3 min with blue screen and "No Signal" before lines appeared again. Full screen, in groups of 3, pink/orange lines with blue screen. Any help, much appreciated.

Added in New T Con board to my Sony TV start-up distorted and then comes better picture most of the time when I turn the TV on distorted picture comes on first and then started to show good what should I do change the mainboard Powerboard!
I have a 52" samsung tv. LCD. ln52a650a1fxza. Whenever I play HD channels my tv turns off and on and pixelates. I have to unplug to stop it. Non HD channels the TV works fine. How to fix?
I was thinking the same thing... I repair tvs too and IMHO an older non led ldc tv is the most reliable type of tv... plasma fail quite often and the repairs are usually very expensive (ysus and buffer issues) I dont think they even make DLP sets anymore but even some of those were plagued with defective dlp chips.
I recently put new led arrays into my tv they now all light but still no image on the panel. I then replaced all the boards in my LG 42LN575V Smart tv but screen still shows no image. You mentioned that if panel has gone you can sometimes write on the panel with finger tip which I tried & I get a white trace on screen which then fades does this suggest panel is at fault even though no damage is present to the eye. Thanks in advance for any help.
I would suspect communication from the main board to the timing controller (t-con) or t-con to the LCD panel. There has to be something disconnected, maybe the ribbons from the LCD are not seated correctly
i have a 46" samsung LCD that appears to have a solarization issue. The menu is also a bit distorted but not nearly as bad as the tv display. Should I not waste time replacing the t-con board?
If you also see it on the menu it's normally the Tcon board and they are usually affordable and easy to change out. Try www.shopjimmy.com. Some models uses different Tcon's so make sure your part number matches what you have in your Tv.
If you remove the Tcon board and see a little square chip on it that says "AS15" or "AS19" then its your problem. Those chips are so unreliable I order them in bulk on ebay and replace them because of the same solorization issue... samsung used them in your model set because I believe I repaired 2 with the same problem. these tv usually have the same engineered faults.. LG made vizios usually have faulty eproms or voltage regulators.

hi i have a samsung tv model #LN46A750R1FXZA serial #ALAU3CNQ707767F.Turn on tv sound good left side of panel is dark an images seem to be in slow motion,after tv warms up it plays fine.that was good for about a month.now left side does same thing all the time.should i check t-con board? ty.
+frank m Hey Marcus i fixed it if your intrested ,you need to remove panel from frame.then u need to find which ribbon cable or(LVDS) is the problem by pressing down on them.then all i did was tape it down.
so what if my image Is dim on the right side but is there ... so the backlight inverter went replaced it got the TV on backlights are fine lit end to end just dim on right side
Great video and I think I am going to trouble shoot my Samsung TV to see if the T Con is the cause or the LCD panel. VGA seems to work without any issue but HDMI ports and cable port are causing garbled video and restarting of the TV.
