DECADES IN THE MAKING - Catching Brook Trout 40 Years Later.

In the 1980's my dad fished a small set of beaver ponds high in the Appalachian mountains. He told stories of beautiful mountain meadows with intertwined spruce thickets that reminded him of the Rocky Mountains out west. He told me one day I should go check them out myself and see if the ponds still held a native population of brook trout. So finally, 40 years after my dad first fished the area, I returned to see if the trout were still there.
Luckily the fish were still there, and although I had to work for them they were worth the time. There is no doubt in my mind that if it hadn't been December I would have been able to catch many more fish, but this time of year can be tough. I still managed to catch 3 of the most beautiful fish in the world in some of the most unique water I've had the opportunity to fish in the mountains I call home.

I am so glad your dad shared his memory of the beaver ponds with you - and equally glad you followed up on his recollections. A very, very nice video indeed. Knowing the effort and time you invest in these productions, I just want to offer my sincere thanks for all the great angling outings you have shared over this past year. They are greatly appreciated!

Awesome narration and landscape. My uncle took me fishing in the wilderness of British Columbia, where he was a hunting/trapping guide for decades. Asked him what the rifle was for. His reply was we're going into land where people are not welcomed. Did see a Wolverine and mountain goat in the far distance with binoculars. The mountain stream was only a few feet wide. The amount of brook trout, in it was heavenly. We are truly the invasive species in the wilderness.

My brother and I used to fish high country lakes and streams for brookies and cutthroats. Most of the streams saw little to no pressure as they were considered to be to small for any decent fish. We caught a lot of fish though most were under ten to twelve inches long. Don't remember ever seeing anyone else fishing those small streams. Lots of great memories.

Awesome video. I grew up fishing a lot of places like this in the Saranac, Wilmington and st. Regis areas of the Adirondacks. Most of the fish were around 7-9 inches but I’ve gotten into 16-17 inch native brookies up there. It’s always an amazing thing to be way up in the mountains catching beautiful wild fish with no one around for miles.

Since you said native brookies are you fishing the north east? If a beaver pond don’t have priories in it we would call it a beaver pond. I live fishing high up in Maine because there brookies a monsters bro. Like 18-20 inch and up to 5 pounds. Oh and when I lived out in Colorado I would fish for wild brookies all the way up to 10,500 to 11,000 feet in elevation Brotha. Our west has wild brookies but not native. Rookies. The mid to northern east coast has both. Wild and native 🤙🏽. Yeah I live in Connecticut so I fished Vermont when I was I. High school and I fished Maine a lot as well. Not so much New Hampshire and Massachusetts but I have fished them. I do fish the Swift river in mass witch in small crystal clear tail waters that reminds me fishing out in Colorado and there tail waters. And so you must be fishing after the brookie spawn so you in November/ December I’m guess since on the east coast brookies spawn I the month of October. And my bad you did say your fishing in December 😂
