5/18/2023 Your videos are a great help, for maintaining my 2012 Troy-Bilt Horse, with 46” deck. I am trying to post a specific question, but the comment isn't being accepted. Hopefully, this comment will post. Have a great day! I did succesfully post below, but can't in the upper comments section - something is wrong with posting.
Your videos are a great help, for maintaining my 2012 Troy-Bilt Horse, with 46” deck. At video time 15:00, your hammer handle is on a pully, and the hammer head is on the spring for that pully. The upper bracket for that pully is spring-loaded and slotted for movement, and the lower part has 4 rubber bumpers. My question is: isn’t that bracket, supposed to move? Referring to a parts diagram here: To get movement on my deck, I have to: Remove the washer (#13) from the shoulder screw (#37) for the slot, and loosen the screw (#15) - that functions as the bracket pivot. If washer #13 is in place, and/or screw #15 is tight - the bracket won’t move. There is some friction under the moving bracket from corrosion and peeling paint, but tightening either screw would lock the bracket anyway. All this said, the mower deck did seem to function fine - but I want to be sure everything is correct. Again, I do appreciate your informative videos! 🙂
Howdy and thanks for sharing the video with us. I recently bought one of these mowers used. The engine seems to be in good shape but when I release the break pedal, I get a noise that I can't explain. I'm thinking that it's not normal. So far The noise goes away after about a minute. I have checked the the pulleys for play or slop, and there is a little but not much. I'm wondering if I should replace all three pulleys? I will try to replace the spindle bearings in both spindles. After watching you replace them in the video, I think I can do it. Any advice you can share with me will be more than appreciated, thanks.
Usually driveline noise is one or more of those 3 pulleys just being dry if grease. They may not be very loose but with no grease left in them they make a lot of noise. They can/ will eventually lock up and burn the belt up.
I redid my deck tried to replace just the bearings,..... but tapping out the spindle shaft it bent the nut and threads like it was made of lead,.... so hole new spindle assembly. I had to paint the whole deck,...and put new PTO belt on,....it lasted one year now I'm replacing the deck belt. Oh yeah, I bought new blades as soon as they engaged it bent and plowed dirt? So, I just sharpened to old blades again.
I paid $50.00 for 4 USA made bearings. Because I knew no better I worked in a machine shop and we bought only expensive part's. That's the place they bought bearings so that's where I went. But if you can trust Ebay for the right part cheaper that's the way to go. My brake spring was broken so I bought one of those too. My deck drive belt was like $22.00 at TSC it was a 1/4 of an inch longer than my old one. I hope it works, because the smith's and Jones have already mowed, And then the battery was dead.
