I bought a brand new Simpson Super Pro 4.0gpm 4400psi unit on a roll cage about 18 months ago. I used it for about 2 hrs max, and then stored it in a box utility trailer. So, I tried to use it now, and it had no pressure. The Honda GX390 engine started fine (I have only used non-ethanol fuel because I know the gas will be in it for extended periods). I must have watched 100+ videos, searched the internet for days, and tried numerous remedies that worked for those people. The unloader & ball valve on my unit is different than the Troy Built in your video, but it has one. In my case, the unloader valve screws into the manifold thingy from the top, and the check valve ball is accessed from the bottom as it is directly under the unloader valve. I never really paid much attention to that, and did not know what it's purpose was. I would have liked to insert a photo about right here, but can't. After I watched your video, I decided to open it up and find out, and when I did, I found the spring and with a flashlight and mirror I looked up into the manifold and discovered the spring pushes on the steel ball. With the unloader valve removed, and the screw plug with the spring and ball removed from the bottom, you can see completely through the manifold. The seat for the ball is removable and has an "o ring" on it. The ball was stuck to the metal seat, but I was able to push the seat out from the top using the eraser end of a pencil. I got the ball separated from the seat, used some 1000 grit used sandpaper from a recent headlight polishing job to remove the rust ring around the steel ball. Put it back together and the pressure was back! Thank you so much. I almost dismissed your video, thinking it would just be a repeat of the others I had already watched. Thanks again! You are my hero!

Thanks buddy, yes I remember you commenting from time to time. Been watching some of your stuff. You have a nice shop, should do more machine shop stuff. We had a snapper mower, it's cool to see that machine again. I remember changing those rubber drive disks pretty often. Nice work Johnnie

Just picked up one today off the side of the road. Done the same thing, cleaned the carb, got the check ball unstuck and now works just fine.

I was incredibly close to throwing in the towel and taking it to an authorized dealer, AND almost dismissed the very video that guided me to the solution. I was ready to buy a new unloader, which would have been money wasted and not been the solution. I read that someone else discovered their problem was a missing ball in the check valve! Wonder if someone removeed it for storage after they experienced the same problem. I plan to remove the steel ball for long term storage and attach it to the unit in the clear plastic baggie with the paperwork and a "NOTICE: REPLACE BALL IN CHECK VALVE BEFORE USE!" Kind of like the "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flags the Air Force uses, only different.

Thank you for your kind reply. I'm so glad this one helped you. Like you, I had watched countless videos, most all of them covering the same issues, except the one that was my problem. I've repaired many of these things for friends and neighbors, with most all of them being the usual problems. This one was a bit deeper, and not seeing anyone else address it, I thought I'd post this video, just in case somebody needed it. Again, thank you for your kind comment.

I’ve been cleaning them in ultra sonic cleaner for up to 2 hours sometimes to remove the buildup of stuff

I had not thought of that for these pumps. That US cleaner I had in the video, which eventually self-destructed, I don't think was large enough for it. I have replaced it with a 6-qt one, and it seems to work great so far. Cleaning carbs in it, the degreaser I used (Purple Power, SuperClean) attacks the metal and turns it dark gray to black. Wire brush takes care of that, but not knowing what pot metal these pumps are made out of, I'd be hesitant to put it in mine. BTW, what type cleaning solution have you used to get good results? Thanks for your response!

Can i ask what psi of air was needed to push that ball out...thanks
@JohnnieBravo1
@JohnnieBravo1 3 года назад
My compressor stores air at 120 psi, but the regulator out to the air line is 80 psi for shop tools. That's what I used, with a 50 foot long 3/8 air line. I used an air nozzle on the end of the line with rubber tip on it, and I did not give it a full shot. I varied the shots until that ball finally shot out. Having thought about it a while, if I had a dependable way to catch the ball and spring (like a thick towel over it or something), I would have started out with full 120 psi output pressure, and a full air shot at the nozzle. If I remember, at partial pressure, it took 8 to 10 shots for it to finally come loose.

@@JohnnieBravo1 i thank you very much bro...i have one thats also stuck...tried all sorts of things...but was the trapped only to push the ball out or was it coming out of the output...thanks again

@@anextday Man, I 'm glad that worked for you. I think this may be one of those 1 in 100 issues on these things, where usually one of the more obvious fixes works most of the time.. Please let me know when you get your new spring in and get it all back together that it works okay.

That's what I was afraid would happen, if I had not clamped it the way that I did. It came out unscathed, and has worked flawlessly since I did this video, almost 3 years ago now. But thank you for your comment.
