Had the PL-660 for 3 days now, WOW! Such great SW reception with just the internal antenna. I'm VERY happy with it, even the FM rx. Thanks again.

From the PL-660 manual: "Press the [LIGHT/SNOOZE] button to illuminate the LCD for 3 seconds; press & hold the [LIGHT/SNOOZE] button for permanently illumination. Press it again to turn off the backlight."

The weird noise you heard on 7450 khz appears on my radios, often preceding Cuban Numbers Station Transmissions.

Great review, please start doing more of these comparisons again, even thought you have done them in the past. Try doing updates on each of these. My thoughts

I've been using a PL-660 for about 3 years. I've never tried "Long Wave" but AM, FM and shortwave seem to work just fine.

Love these radios with the big dials on the side.

Nice review Tom, I have a 660 and like it. I had concidered upgrading to the 880, It definitly has better audio, but the 660 did sound a little more sensitive on your tests. i would buy the 880 if I was buying one now, but will stick with the 660 for now. 73, Tom, k2bew

Tom what kind of adapter is that. I just bought a pl 660 and need to find me a antenna adapter like the one you have.

I hear good reports on these receivers, but I hear warble on one of them, on sideband. Have you noticed this warble and maybe what causes it?

I have a PL-660 and have been intrigued and feel I am being drawn in by the "Siren Song" of the PL-880 and feel I must have one to accompany my other 16 SW radios!! I need it like another hole in the head (any more and you can use my head as a colander to rinse off your lettuce) but I've been reading about all the 'hidden features' of the 880 and I feel I have to get on the bandwagon and check them out for myself!!! By the way, I just got a C Crane Skywave, and while it is a nice feature packed radio, I didn't find it to be as sensitive when receiving SW. Its antenna is short, very short, so I will test it again with a 20' 'soft wire' antenna. Other than that, it ain't a bad little radio,and similar to my Grundig G6 Buzz Aldrin which has the Air band, but the C Crane Skywave had NOAA and I was able to receive on 3 of the 7 channels!

Now that you have had the PL880 for a while and have gotten used to it, what is your impression of the radio? For the price, is it a good radio and is there something better in the same price range?

glad you made this video as i have had my eye on the PL 880. not sure why, i have enough radios, but u know how it is. lol. thought about picking one up. overall, do you like it better than the 660? saw online it comes with a case. that will be nice for travel which is why I am buying it.

Have you come across “muting” problems as you tune? That is an issue for me with the newer radios. Not sure about the pl-660. I heard it was ok

Tom; I have been away from shortwave for a while, but the bug has recently bit me again. Lots have changed since the days with my Sony ICF 2010. I am thinking about purchasing the PL-660. My question to you is.......With the PL-660 having air band and the PL-880 not, is that the basic difference in these 2 radios??

The base treble does not see to do a thing on the 880, Maybe my 75 year old ears cannot hear the difference

Hello I will give you my opinion on several Tecsun receivers. I tested the PL660 and the PL880 because both have the airplane band. Previously I had bought the PL880 whose sound of the speaker has always made me dream. I am French and we have a lot of radios on the Parisian FM which prevents me from testing the FM quality. I left in the countryside with FM transmitters in Amiens around 50 kilometers and as I was looking for a good receiver in LW, MW, SW and FM I could see that the 680 and 660 were worth nothing in FM compared to the PL880. It's really the one that captures distant FM while the other two have only noise. The big problem is that I miss the air band and the RDS. So I banish the 680 and the 660. I would like to test the ELTON Satellite which seems to me complete but the FM is it as sensitive as on the 880? I also thought of SANGEAN but no air band. So if you have an idea for my Christmas it would be nice.
