I don't think Willow's comment about how she was picked was her justifying herself, it was her response to the "You have to turn back before its too late." arguement. Willow was demeaning her old self. She hates who she was, she thinks she was pathetic, someone who deserved to be picked on. Tara and Magic were the only things that made her feel not pathetic. She gave up Tara for Magic, then Magic for Tara, but she won't live without both. There is no point in turning back for her because she doesn't think she was anything worth turning back into.

Remember at the end of 6x10 “Wrecked” when Willow had that conversation on her bed with Buffy? This is when she first gave voice to her fears that her “old, nerdy self” wasn’t enough.. “If you could be plain old Willow or Super Willow, which would you choose?”. She even said Tara never knew that old Willow and questioned whether Tara would even love her without her superpowers. Even going back to “Doomed” in season 4, seeds were planted that Willow feared she was still the nerd from high school and was nothing more than a weak sidekick to Buffy. The fears and feelings of inadequacy run deep for Willow. Darth Rosenberg was a long time coming.

I understand Chris' point regarding Willow talking about her old nerdy self didn't fully track with what we seen, however they were actual experiences she had and she is comparing this jacked up, superpowered version of herself to that meek version to justify having the power she does in this moment. Willow's speech is less about how other people have seen her & more about how she sees herself. Willow's always struggled to like herself, despite having so many people in her corner that love her. She's her own bully in this way. So then comes Tara... who made her feel loved but also lovable, and that felt really rare to her. Which makes the pain of Tara's death (and Dark Willow's rise) all the more intense. IMO of course. Anyway I'm loving these reactions and am SO EXCITED for the finale

Honestly, these last two eps have two of the best endings to TV episodes ever. Bored now/One down, followed by badass Giles' "I'd like to test that theory." God, watching these is always so damn satisfying. I'm a big fan of season 6 and this Dark Willow era is just glorious.

What willow meant with her speech is about who she was before Tara, in her high school years when she felt like she wasnt good enough for pretty much anything. Tara was the one that really helped her unlock her full potential and now she is gone so willow is scared that without Tara she is nobody (of course she is wrong but right now it's how she feels acting out of grief and fear)

That Buffy vs. Dark Willow fight really does feel like a Kaneda vs. Tetsuo fight, but no giant organic monster.

“The only thing I had going for me were the moments when Tara would look at me and I was wonderful.” Alyson Hannigan is fantastic in this episode. Everyone always talks about how cool (or cringy) Dark Willow is, but my favorite moment is when she laments over Tara. Makes me tear up every time.

I had the same reaction to Giles when I was a kid.

When Jonathan said "But she's just Willow..." it made me so sad. Because he has a point (to an extent). She's *just* Willow, the same girl they've always known, but she lost the person she loved the most. Pain and grief like that, can destroy you (and if you have enough power, and specially if you're corrupted, in this case by an addiction), can get you to hurt everyone around you. And in this case that everyone around you was the entire planet. It's actually very sad, because that's something a lot of people go through, with or without an addiction. I've also felt pain like hers in the past (that lead to depression, isolating myself from my friends, taking wrong decisions, not related to drugs thankfully, but "wrong" men are almost as dangerous as drugs, I'll just say that), and it's something that it takes a long time to heal from. So, I hated all the decisions Willow took during season 5 and season 6 leading to this. But at this point, when Warren kills Tara, *I get it, and I get her (Willow)* .

In my headcanon Xander and Anya got married and went off on their honeymoon, Amy redeemed herself by coming back to help in Anya's place, and Giles reached out to Xander so he still had time to get through to Willow in the end.

OMG Suraj, I was terrified of that woman in Superman III as well. For me the worst part was the noise she made as the machine was putting the wires over her face, that kept me up at night! Love the reaction from all of you to Giles.

The Dark Willow arc is full of quotable lines. “Bored now.” “One down” “I’d like to test that theory” “You really need to have every square of your ass kicked” “I don’t wanna fight you. I said I didn’t wanna. Didn’t say I wasn’t going to.” And these are not including the awesome lines in the finale.

Its hard not to cheer willow up when shes such a cool villain.

This episode and the finale complete the fantastic episodes Becoming, Parts 1&2. Seasons 3-6 were foretold by Whistler in his narration. Part 1 was about the past and to tell and show us the points that changed lives. Part 2 did not show any flashbacks because it was showing the now and how the choices will affect the future. We saw the killing of Angel and pushing in the vortex the choice that will be finished by Buffy to complete what she was to become. Spike will become obsessed with Buffy and his moments will be first understood by Drusilla soon in South America. Finally , Willow was destined to become dark when she harnesses the darkness of the vengeance curse. We first glimpse dark Willow when the curse is nearing completion and she tells us that she felt something go through her. Giles gave us this warning but like Whistler said, we miss the moments that change us. Then think back and see in rewatch… Willow acts differently early in Season 3. The change is slow but she mentions several times she is spending more times with dark magic. She pursues Xander even though he’s with Cordelia and she’s with Oz. Would first 34 episodes Willow do that. She is almost mean to Buffy on her return and shows no empathy or need to understand her trauma. Willow has been on the course to darkness since she embraced the powerful Gypsy curse . There are several moments and actions that show how the dark power is taking over. Add that dark power to being on The Hellmouth and the journey of Becoming Dark Willow is complete. She has embraced the first step to separation from light by the embrace of selfish pride with the desire for absolute power. That’s why she talks about 6 years of being a sidekick. The foundation of evil is self over others and the desire to have what others possess. She does not want justice but vengeance. She rejects any forgiveness for personal satisfaction. Willow wants the pain of others to cover her own pain. If you go back and listen to Whistler and the actions of the 2 episodes and you will see the moments and futures for 5 main characters and how and who they will become. 4 will become evil ( 3 by foolish and selfish decisions for their own pleasures) and 2 by outside influences and men. Drusilla has evil targeting her with indifference surrounding her. Buffy has power thrust upon her but she is the only one that fights to become herself against societal, historical, and cultural barriers. After the end of Season 6, rewatching Becoming Parts 1&2 and Restless ( The first 3 dreams are about the present and past but Buffy is the prophetic dream of the future) reveal much and the epic story that is BTVS. It proves what Buffy has said , “ You really don’t know what a Slayer is.” Then Season 7 has been set up and the final chapter of what Buffy will become is completed.

I look forward to seeing their reaction to the next episode. I can't think of a more perfect way Dark Willow is defeated. In this state, that was the only person who get through to her.

Let’s not forget that Giles was a magic addict in his youth, just like Willow. And he specifically told her in season 2 that magic can “open a door you may not be able to close.” Makes sense he’d be the one to challenge her on her magic use again, four years later.

What’s great about Dark Willow is that most of her villain speeches don’t sound out of character. What she said about Dawn is probably something she’s thought at a bad moment but would obviously never say, because she loves her. But she doesn’t care anymore, and she’s on the ultimate power trip, so she’ll tell her, Buffy, and everyone whatever she wants without a filter.

I remember watching this with my sister when it first aired and we screamed the house down when Giles entered 😂 Even to this day i still get goosebumbs. Giles has the best boss enterance in the history of television!

Dark Willow is one of the most powerful live action magic user; she’s capable of absorbing knowledge straight from books, can heal herself, has matter manipulation, mental manipulation, flight, electricity manipulation, transfiguration, teleportation, and some reality warping. She would destroy the MCU Avengers; rather or not she could beat Wanda as the Scarlett Witch is another question haha

I've been waiting so long for you guys to react to the teleportation scene. It's one of my top 10 special effects in any tv or movie, and you didn't disappoint. That effect and Buffy turning the missle into doves live in my head t It's so awesome because you would never expect it from such a "low budget" tv show. It really sucks not seeing Mickey's reaction to it though.

The "Alison Hannigan as Willow" thing intrigued me so I went back and checked. Every episode this season waits until the end of the theme to run this credit. And checking last season, Alison Hannigan appeared after Nicholas Brendan, and "Anthony Head as Giles" ran at the end of the credit. Giles is absent from the credits altogether this season. So they had Alison take Tony Head's place in the credits. It's a weird choice. Especially since this last credit is the only one that mentions the character's name. Also, you should definitely care what Spike is doing lol

Get ready for Sara McLaughlin singing the Prayer of St Francis next episode, it's great, amazing, I can't do it justice you have to hear it. She sings it like an angel. Edit: well at least what I think it would sound like, just incredibly done.

A great title for this episode Willow now in true 'Darkman' mode, revenge is all that is driving her, and the other two, Andrew and Jonathan seem doomed. Anya explaining in a matter of fact way to the Prison Guard what is going to happen is very funny. Her chase is relentless, and the scream she lets out outside the Prison is really chilling. The other part of the story arc is Spike's quest to complete the tasks. Prophetic words indeed when Buffy says is she is running low on magic power, she is gonna need to juice up soon, and we switch to the abominable Rack. Willow of course is now more powerful than him, and takes his strength. The Willow and Dawn conversation is interesting, with Willow's now piercing eyes looking straight onto Dawn's mind. Willow saying to Dawn you weren't always human, and why is she crying as she is just a mystical ball of energy, this is so hurtful to Dawn. Funny too when Jonathan and Andrew are arguing and Anya says ' the annoying Virgin has a point '. Great dramatic and painful conversation in The Magic Box with Xander and Anya. Willow's great scene with Buffy at Rack's where she seems to release all her pent up anger and hurt she has endured over the years of Bullying and being thought of as a nerd, and now feels she has the power to take revenge on all is a very interesting concept from the writers, it seems now as she refers to herself as a 'junkie' but feels the need to get even on everybody. The killer line here is when Willow says to Buffy, 'you hate it here even more than I do'. We switch back to Spike briefly to see he has more tasks to complete, which is interesting as this story is sidelined here as the main event is in the Magic Box, but the Spike storyline even though peripheral here, is most important for the whole Series! The Buffy/Willow showdown was inevitable. It seems so bitter when Willow says to Buffy 'years of being your sideman' there seems to almost actual hate and jealousy towards her here, she is of course just too powerful now, but a brilliant ending scene Willow is thrown across the room, and we see the return of a 'juiced up' Giles, great satisfaction for the viewer here setting up a great Finale.

Buffy's Charmed episode. 13:25 Her line delivery was absolute perfection. 15:46 Alias S2 finale holds the record for longest uninterrupted girl fight in tv history. Incidentally, it took four, 16-hour days to film.

"Alyson Hannigan as Willow" has been on the credits all throughout season 6 - she replaced "Anthony Steward Head as Giles" - the "actor AS character" credit is usually given to the supporting actor with the most name recognition after the main star, which Alyson was after ASH decided to go down to just a recurring role.

Was waiting for the Giles ending..I got to say, the Xander hate stuff is getting ridiculous. The season was about the big three ( Buffy ,Willow, and Xander) all having major personal falls as characters but think about this, The normies hold no ridicule for Buffy and in this very Epi as we are seeing the clear evil fall of Willow, they are onboard for it but Xander gets cold feet and backs out of his wedding and these guys are acting like he is up there with Hilter or something..it's utter nonsense at this point. I mean they are acting like Xander is on the level of Spike and after what Spike attempted to do to Buffy, that's outrageous to compare those two things but you couldn't tell by listening to there hate for the two characters.

Giles has had concerns about Willow for a much longer time than people might think; Willow has been far too curious about magic and keen to absorb knowledge even since High School. The real big turn for Willow was when she gave Angel his soul back, this opened a door for her that she couldn't close and she became so interested in witchcraft and that grew like a drug inside her. bringing buffy back from the dead was the ultimate realisation that Willow was out of control for Giles; she had no consideration for the bigger picture and consequences of her actions. doing that spell to bring Buffy back required VERY black arts, you don't ask requests of the Gods lightly. Giles was right; she was an amateur, a fool and risked so much in doing so...she changed herself and Buffy forever in doing so. And now Dark Willow is is powerful Giles and other witches can sense her all the way in England...why am I not surpised!

You should definitely check out society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, ,the acting was amazing.
