I'm not a truck driver. I'm here on this channel because I like to watch trucking videos. At one time I did drive a straight axle fuel oil delivery truck in Greater Boston and the surrounding suburbs. It was a 1984 Mack cabover with an automatic and a 3500 gallon aluminum tank. My truck driving career ended in 2006 due to a physical injury accident which happened because of PTSD. I have so much on my mind that I can lose concentration easily and so fell on ice and shattered a leg. I gave up my CDL in 2016 after making the decision that I'll never drive a truck again. I'm old and weak now, I cannot do anymore bull work. I'm commenting here in regards to DAT. How can a trucker actually make good money with those low figures? I see DAT as a way to make some money rather than drive empty (dead load?) and burn a hole in the pocket.

when your first starting owner/operating, when booking a load on DAT say, do you need to provide your own trailer or when booking the load, does the company provide the trailer? Also, is the load already in a trailer or do you have to wait once you get there for the load to be loaded?
@TruckingPlanet
@TruckingPlanet 5 лет назад
so you just committed to 8 days and netted 3k, what now? do you ever take anytime off and what does that do to your weekly averages? do you incorporate a "wear and tear" cost in? a yearly tax, filing fees and such as a weekly cost? health and life insurance cost? how many days in a month are real time off? (not layovers, sleeping in the truck or doing maintenance) just curious and trying to compare o/o's to company driver, thanking you in advance for a response

What are your thoughts on being an exclusive carrier for a broker like CHR where they maybe (probably) give you a little better rates than you'd see on a board and they keep you busy with loads that never even hit the boards because they just go straight to you?

I like your page. But I suggest changing your deadhead miles to 75miles or under. 120 miles will have you overlapping results. 75miles-50 in major city's gives you and us as viewers a more accurate of results of loads. 2hr+ of deadheading plus the amount of average time of 2hr loading and maybe weighing the load isn't proficient UNLESS!!!!! The load is going in the direction your traveling. Keep up the excellent work brother

Alex Dowell I’d love to pick your brain bruh. I’m looking to get out of company driving and getting my own.
@alexdowell1663
@alexdowell1663 5 лет назад
@@enigmacat78 Depending on how many years of company driving experience you have. And also what city you're in, because you might not get a lot of home time if you live in dry city n State. Don't jump off the porch if you don't have 10-15k saved up after authority and ur 20% down cargo insurance is paid. My blueprint was I paid cash for my dry van. $875 trucknote through a credit union that was100% financing. I didn't put 1penny down for my 2014 Volvo VNL780. But I purchased an extended warranty which was $5500 (a piece of mind). And lastly if you're in a city like Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta, Columbus Oh, Los Angeles, Kansas city. Try just buying a Tractor and leasing on to company hauling rails. HubGroup, XPO, etc...have steady Freight and daily home time. Owner Operators here in Chicago where I am are averaging from 2.5-3k a week take home. Try that out for a year. But If you're not in a high Freight volume area, I would have to know what city you live in and how much you bring home now as a company driver and ur home time b4 I could honestly recommend you get your own authority

@alexdowell1663
@alexdowell1663 5 лет назад
@@enigmacat78 Rates are extremely low down there. Loads out of Birmingham to Chicago which is usually next day delivery are only paying $1.45-1.69 In my honest opinion it'll be tough getting good home time. I do recommend trying out a LTL company like FedEx Freight, Dayton Freight, UPS Freight, RL, Eastes. Those companies have road positions and will have you home everyday and off on weekends. $75k-110k trust me, I was at FedEx Freight for 20yrs and we all in the industry as road drivers in LTL made around the same.

Ace Hightower no brained to me to instead pull Frieght for Mercer, TQL, Landstar, Logic Made Simple, CH Robinson, Conway, Coyote, Sureway, as well as a few others that pay 3-5 days without 100% so you'll have cash flow to float those brokers that net 30. $1.47 are power only rates here in Chicago. We as Carriers should not be insulted like that. When the customer probably paid $2.85-$3 for that shipment.
