Probably there's a connection in the story, but Liz's "I don't like the Beatles" might have also been a bit of a wink because the man who shot John Lennon of the Beatles did so, he said, to impress Jodie Foster.

Great summary here. I think the supernatural elemental is a layer on top of real world mystery/crime. I remember Nick P saying all the facts to solve the case in season 1 were present in episode one and I think that will remain true here. All variables are on the board - maybe even if they have just been skimmed over (ex: green house in S1E1). What’s up with the water supply? What factors are stopping the crab harvest being fruitful? I’m hooked dammit!

I think Darwin's drawing may be of the Sedna, Goddess of the Sea/Sea Animals. It's a common Inuit folktale from all across the Arctic about a girl who gets her fingers cut off and they become all of the arctic marine animals. There are many versions of the story, sometimes she is called Mother/Mistress of the Sea or the ruler of the underworld.

Season 4 gave me a the Thing vibe and 30 Days of Night. I suspect Season 4 could be related to some sort of climate change where mother nature turns back on humans.
@mosesperez1924
@mosesperez1924 6 месяцев назад
That's kind of where my brain is going as well. Mother nature using the spirit of the victim of a horrific murder to exact revenge on mankind for pillaging the land for resources. The first scene with the Caribou kind of put that in my head. But that theory doesn't quite fit when I think about the researchers ending up out in the cold. That part reminds of the Dyatlov Pass incident.

I love the connection you made between this first episode and Wind River. To piggy back off that idea - What if one of the entities that is supporting the scientific research is also funding the mines. The credit opening scene has people floating in water, but I think it's more like they are being put through the washer, much like the scientists are cleaning the laundry. They are trying to hide 'something dirty.' The scientists were drinking Lone Star beer and there is a close up shot of it at -55:12, Det. Danvers said Annie was bludgeoned with star shapes on her body, and at -15:44 as Trooper Navarro is pouring beer into dude's car, there is a still of one of the buildings with a star shaped light. I felt like Travis was doing an interpretive dance/motion of what happened to the scientists. When he puts his hands from his chest and opens wide, that's the scientist's spirits leaving their bodies. Between season 1 and 4 there seems to be a connection of industry and nature as Cary Fukunaga cinematically captured the corrosion of industry and nature reclaiming those spaces. At -42:02 There are three movies that I think are nods to what's going on in the show: David and Goliath, Mini Store Tjocke Far, and NOS4a2. That's enough tin foil hat ideas from me.

Liz is Leah's step mom & suspect Holden is Leah's half brother & their father & Holden were killed in a car accident, probably involving alcohol judging by Liz reaction. I think what's looking like supernatural elements are going to be tied to the geography & Indigenous culture/customs/beliefs. I get the impression Hank may be a womanizer bc the way Liz digs at him & the way Peter seems to want to avoid him. I think the research facility & the mines are going to be connected to the ecosystem & how that's effecting the water, animals & crabs. Very much looking forward to unraveling the mystery!

I (personally) am really enjoying the supernatural aspects of the show. I feel it works well with the setting and the differing cultures and beliefs of that area. I'm appreciative that this season has two outstanding actresses in the main roles, and that it's written and directed by a female. I really enjoyed season one of True Detective, but like many detective/police/crime type shows, there were a lot of misogynistic moments. I know that some of those moments are needed to show the horror of the crimes, character development, etc. But so far, I feel watching Night Country that there's a fresh take on the detective story. I do appreciate how the female characters aren't perfect and have a lot of flaws, just like Rust and Marty did. I'm excited to see where this journey takes us. Thank you for the fantastic review!

I really wanted to like this but after nobody put on their parks hats or zipped up their coats i felt like it was unrealistic. And then it turned out i was right. This isnt at all like the first season, this has nothing to do with anything real

My favorite thing about Season 1 is how it presented itself like a typical crime drama. It subverted expectations at every turn! Including the name of the show TRUE DETECTIVE. The show is more about coming to a truth about human atrocities in the world. The only way it makes sense is if there is some "evil entity" out there causing this. In the end, it's just humanity. Humans just commit acts of evil and sometimes it just doesn't make sense. The character's mind couldn't comprehend the evils he witnessed and started to question reality. This made the audience question their perception of the reality of the show. Season 4 is like they watched season 1 and were like "Oh, it's actually a real supernatural horror! Let's make it spooky, and dumb it down for everyone!" The season 4 premiere missed the mark. I will continue to watch but it's off to a really bad start. Hopefully, the "evil spirit" is not some ancient virus that was leaked from oil drilling, or fracking. hahaha, I will throw my remote through my TV. haha

I really wanted to like this show. However, all the characters are miserable and unhappy. The dialogue is not realistic. The physical scenes are shallow and transactional. The show checks all the boxes for modern Hollywood (racism, anti-white, men are not intelligent, all relationships don’t last). It is basically Los Angeles in the snow.

Travis is not her son. Where did you get that from? Plus the song playing by the Beatles was Twist and SHOUT. Do your research. I cannot even watch the video because you get so much wrong right away. Lazy

This is the worst. True Detective, we have ever seen. I think the writers were told you can make one more true detective if you make it completely woke. It’s a woke shit storm. With every vile thing you can throw at the human populous. It’s really really stupidand I think it will end really stupid.
