I review, breakdown and explain True Detective Night Country Episode 1. I discuss Season 4 which stars Jodie Foster as Liz as she's working on the disappearance of a group of Scientists in Alaska. I react to the clues, hidden details, things you missed, the meaning of the quote at the start from Hildred Castaigne, and Evangeline's connection to Annie's case. I also give my theories and predictions on episode 2.

The wolf wasn’t alive. When you’re gutting/cleaning a fresh kill, sometimes you hit nerve endings that haven’t fully dulled yet and the animal with jolt. Doesn’t happen a lot but it happens.
@jonb2437

When watching it on screen though, it does give you an impression like maybe its still alive. Then immediately goes to Travis. Then you're thinking the same thing about him

I think the wolf appeared for a moment to be alive but it wasn't. It was an indicator that happened immediately prior to her seeing the obviously inappropriately clothed barefoot dead guy who would lead her to find the scientists. The fact that she wasn't freaked out by the wolf or the guy is an indication that she is used to seeing/observing supernatural signs. It's not unusual - the natural and supernatural worlds are not so clearly separated in this place.
@ashleywaner1284
@ashleywaner1284 5 месяцев назад
Yep, I was about to comment the same thing, then saw yours. But not going to lie, I did think it was alive at first when I saw it jolt, then realized she hit a nerve. If you watch it again, you can see that wolf is really dead at the beginning before she started gutting/cleaning.

Thanks for this summary of events it helps Jody Foster made comment about her Character being a Karen ...wonder if Foster truly seen Karen's bc her character at least to me doesn't not come off as a Karen she comes off as skilled detective , exuding man qualities of not taking crap & all about business without typical feminine qualities . At the same time we can tell her harder views & behavior seem to reflect past trauma ...she does seem to care about the female victim but same time doesn't want to reveal that & seems to be protective of the inspectors involvement giving off the impression that Jody character feels the other inspector is too emotional about the case trying to keep her not involved maybe for fear what she might do or other unknown reason yet to be revealed. These are my views about Jody's character definitely not a Karen in my view but instead a tough skilled detailed detective. Jody why did you do your character dirty like that calling her a Karen lol

Maybe lead or some other toxic hallucination inducing material got into the water sources, causing the town people and animals exposed to it to hallucinate, maybe causing the original killer who most likely is the guy with the murdered girl's jacket. which he might have hallucinated his victim which spread some sort of panic in the science station (would explain how the tongue found if its a match to the murderered girl was so well preserved )

Was the wolf still alive? I’m not so sure. It shuddered right before Travis showed himself to Rose. So it could be that she had some sort of episode that caused her to be able to see him - like a seizure or something.

Every video of yours always has something off. The wolf was definitely dead when she was gutting it, it twitched and barked when Travis appeared. This could have happened because she cut a nerve in the carcass or alludes to the supernatural energy reanimating briefly at the appearance of Travis. Or both.

First 10-15 minutes in the a dude gets punched in the face by a woman then a single female officer with one hand is able to restrain him while talking on the phone. Then the scene where Jodie walks in, and turns off the stereo because her cop son couldn’t find the cabinet. Lastly, the scene where the masculine cop having sex dominating her partner. The dude climaxes and sounds so soft. Afterwards laying there naked asking her to cuddle him. Don’t get me wrong this show is shot beautifully and the story seems interesting. It was meh. Too many characters introduced in one episode in my opinion. The writing was a bit shaky as well. Navarro invites Ryan out for a beer. They go to his house instead. He offers her a beer and she says no. ok. If they plan on having Navarro having this chip on her shoulder the entire season than nah. If they plan on having the cliché bratty queer daughter than nah. The overdone crooked old cop involved with an old murder...come on. Not gonna work. Ill give it a couple more. I was waiting for this too. Damn

It might be an alright series on its own but it doesn’t feel like true detective. Especially with the super natural stuff coz that ain’t true detective at all. I’m worried due to the writing that they will bring in too much present day politics into it like we see with countless other shows and movies but it’s too soon to judge that yet. It does seem like it’s guna go that way though and I really hope it doesn’t. I think that the excitement for thismight have set expectations too high.

Everyone saying it’s “too woke” for them doesn’t get that the US population is 50% of mixed race or people of different ethnicity. Never mind that the whole world isn’t made up of just Europeans. And when will they understand that woke means equal and that the world doesn’t just revolve around caucasians. I understand that checking off certain criteria for the only sake of being diverse is off putting, but when your story is set in a different part of the world where there are people of color, then it definitely makes sense to the story.
