TRX4 Long Arm Lift Kit Gets EPIC

It was almost 2 years ago that I installed the Traxxas Long Arm Lift Kit TRA 8140X into my TRX4 Bronco. I slapped some big 2.2 tires on and we went and had some fun with them.

The conversion was successful and the kit worked well. But then, I kinda just stopped using this car. It was previously my go-to trail rig, for ages! But now it just wasn't the same and I found myself driving other rigs instead.

It's funny you say that because being on RU-vid, clickbait is actually a necessary part of success - the algo looks at CTR and view time, and you don't get clicks unless you fish for them. And to fish, you need bait. It's the nature of the system, for better or worse. But I do try to do "good" clickbait and actually deliver on the implied message in the titles. It looks very good and fun to drive with those tires 😉 As you mention here, unlocking the the diffs can really make a difference. That’s the beauty of the TRX-4/6 - I drive mine unlocked as most as I can and only lock for the time needed and then unlock again. Driving with unlocked diffs makes for a better challenge and a more agile car. Love it!

I have a TRX6 and I unlock the rear diffs all the time to give me a bit of a front dig function or to get the rear to slide around where I need it. Love those tires and plenty capable as well!

I like driving like that too. Fronts generally stay locked but it really helps to have the rears open until you need them locked. Fun!

I didn't expect them to that well! Especially since you said they were Amazon tires and un-vented. Definitely has a cool mud truck look but it's nice to know it can still put in work on the rocks

When you do the sled pull test please run these tires in both the forward and reverse directions to see if there’s any difference in the tread direction.

I've been running these for 4 yrs on my traxxas stampede.. they are the best chevron tractor tires I've ever owned.. mine after this long n putting 3s in my 2wd stampede have started to tear along the welts... but 3s in a 2wd stampede/rustler vxl is enough power that you strip the teeth off all the transmission gears in under 1 min... it's a hell of a lot of power to the wheels and I don't recommend you ever try it.. the tires are awesome...

I had a 4S system in my Stampede VXL 4x4 and ALL the upgrades. That thing was a blast, but breakages were common. They're just not built as well as the current generation of RC bashers that can take all the power and so rarely break anything. They're so good these days, it's hard to believe how far they've come! Glad you've been enjoying yours. I'm loving these tires anyway!

Ive had the kit sitting on my bench for over a year now and havent installed it on anything yet. The main TRX i wanted it for i have scaled out and im worried it will make it way top heavy.

Yeah, it'll do that. The only reason mine is happy is due to all the metal in the axles, which I made for towing back before the lift kit. Its definitely something different though!

I'm so tempted to get the F100 TRX4... then again I was expecting they'd release it for the TRX4m (and ofc they have!). I'll admit, that body is so cool it's part of the blame... but the lockable diffs are so appealing... Ideally if I'd install Kuro King axles and a servo to the TRX4m... but I've never seen those as a spare. After expenses and adapting it all, probably better to just go with the 1/10 straight. Go figure how much I like that F100 body to me, the ""Traxxas hater"" even consider getting it!

Heh, yes, it's attractive. That's fair enough. The kk axles would be too small and weak under the TRX4m I think. Get the 1/10, Jorge. It's a beauty.

I have had some success with running chevron tread tires with the pattern reversed; basically running the tires backwards. I find that the chevron tread tends to pull the tire onto an obstacle as opposed to pushing it away with the treads in the forward orientation. I would be curious to know if this is something you have tested.

Ok, you made me google P401, I didn't even know that was a thing. First I heard of that truck was HG P407. I missed my chance to own one (at a reasonable price), they're all almost as much as a tamiya now. (when you include $250 cdn for shipping).

Sorry, I misspoke in the video and didn't correct it. It's the P407. They seem to be making a come back, I found quite a few selling on ebay again for similar money to when they were popular a few years back. I've just grabbed a p409 recently and will put spare rc4wd Yota 2 axles under it, once my s/steel replacements arrive. I didn't realise the 409 came with 4ws nor with plastic axles. Yuck on both counts!

You get 4x 2.2" tires, 4x alu beadlock wheels with detailed stainless steel screws to fit and 4x 12mm alu hubs, which can be replaced for other lengths as desired. That's a lot of stuff for the asking price when you compare it to other options out there. It's the kind of value that brought me to make a video about it in the first place! You don't agree? (It's okay if you don't, but I'm just surprised - I thought it was pretty great value!)

It was a while ago and in Australia. I paid AUD$280 in October 2021.
