I’m an American married to a Filipina (that’s her on the left) and I’ve discovered the way to make a grown Pinoy cry is to ask him about his mothers adobo recipe. They always get so emotional thinking about their Nanay’s version of adobo as it reminds them of how much they love their Nanay.

Good job guys! I don't know if it was explained to you about the "veggies" on your plate? Well, let me tell you now; It is basically the equivalent to cole slaw , in a way it is a palette cleanser, so you can taste the other dishes that you might have. It is called ATCHARA, It is not onions that you thought, it is scredded unbripe papaya, cucumber, carrots, vinegar, sugar fermented in a jar. The rice that you ate at first is Garlic rice, a staple of leftover rice fried with lots of garlic to give that extra flavor.

Fun Fact: Kamayan means "eating with bare hands". Filipino foods is best experienced using your hands for eating (except for soups). Other part of the experience is eating while you put your one foot on your chair while using your bare hands.

Eating with your hands can be difficult if you don’t have someone who can teach you. I had my grandma to watch for two decades.
