Good grief. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a well spoken, introspective, and clearly intelligent 21 year old. Wise well beyond his years.

As a gay man growing up Catholic, going to Catholic school, being an altar boy, I can say honestly Cade is so well spoken and his overall assessment of his life in the Catholic Church is spot on. He expressed his true experience growing up gay in the Catholic Church without criticizing or vilifying his church. He did a lot better than I would’ve. I have no tolerance for organized religion or the Catholic Church in particular. I’ll refrain from my personal opinions of the Catholic Church, but I will say that a number of its faithful, who preach through their actions not their words, have gained my respect during my lifetime.

I joined a seminary in 1971/72 to cover up my sexuality as Cade said …by the end of the second year I was an emotional wreck so I decided to leave ..I confided in one of the mentors who was neutral in his advice and didn’t help …it wasn’t till I left I realised I had left the biggest closet in the world and that the mentor I spoke to was gay and was sexually active …I consider myself an atheist now

I’m in the Arlington Diocese. The first time I was ever exposed to adult material on a computer was in a rectory. But I slowly learned that these priests are trying to unpack difficult things. We should not condemn them. Nor should we pretend they are perfect. It’s ok to be a Christian on the way, and having not already arrived perfect.

Wait I saw this guy randomly on my feed yesterday and I watched his video in awe! When I saw him pop up on my feed this morning I thought I was having dejavú. But when I saw it was under this podcast I rushed to click play His story parallels my story so much. And he is a great storyteller. The next guy you should bring in is Darius son of RU-vid famous BLove. He actually touches the science of being gay and has a very practical outlook.

It seem odd to me that whatever we claim our creator to be, that they would make you to be a certain way, but then deny you the right to live that way. Either there is no God or He has a crewel streak. I've compared it to creating a dog and giving it a great desire to bark, but then punishing it every time it barks. Somewhere out there, there is someone that is longing for your love and dedication...and perhaps vice versa. I'm 74 years old and heavily lean toward traditional Catholicism, but I hate it at the same time and that's a hell of a position to be in. I went to confession once to admit a same sex activity that I was ashamed of at the time. I went to seek God's forgiveness but the priest told me that although God understands all things, there was no way He could forgive that sin. He did end up giving me absolution but I never felt forgiven. That caused the greatest trauma and I felt a total rejection. That's been 35 years ago and I haven't been to confession again since and don't plan to. I've asked God many times to heal the damage that was done to me but nothing ever happens and I don't expect it to either. You make some very interesting points in your story and I wish you the very best in your life.

Wish I'd had his smarts and good heart when I was his age. I like him stressing that morality is based on shared fellow feeling. I'd like to add that's how religion got its morality, not the other way around.

Of course, it's a pleasure to encounter a super bright and articulate man who is happy and working to treasure and grow intentionally with his partner. Myself, i grew up in Protestant Christianity and was never as intellectually sharp and trained. For me, since i chose to be a Christian, it's always been about my love for Jesus and my need to connect with authentic Christian community. At some point, i experienced the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and in my 30s, i joined the RCIA group at a progressive and vibrant Jesuit Catholic church. We were 50 in the RCIA group in September and 48 of us made it through the two scrutinies to the Easter Vigil the following spring when i became a member of the Roman Catholic Church. I knew that homosexual people are "intrinsically disordered" according to official Church teaching but i was fully encouraged to join (in contrast to Cade's rejection to become a priest because he was same-sex attraction.). I was led to believe there would always be a place for me in the Catholic community. The reality is more nuanced that Cade's hardcore group. Cade in a big way had it lucky. He joined an ultra-Conservative part of the Church that today exists in great tension with Pope Francis over the Latin Mass, for example. He made his way to a very black and white group that then allowed him perhaps to quickly look honestly at the teachings of the Church. At any rate, i am a Christian and it looks like i will die a Christian. I'm more complicated than Cade. Lately, i'm realised that always i will remain on the periphery of the Catholic Church as a gay man, despite the fact that there are plenty of Catholic groups made up of actively gay men and women (e.g., Dignity and Fr Jim Martin's world). Recently, i begrudgingly have become a part of an Episcopal Eucharistic Communty that treasures fully the gifts of everyone, including women and queer people in the life of the community. It's a community that wants to get it right, that supports one another and holds each other accountable to the Gospel. The Body of Christ assembled reflects the Really Present Body of Christ in the Eucharist. Religion is a tricky thing but right now i'm finding a home with this community. I've NEVER had the idea that Chrirstianity exists just to keep me from murdering others. There are plenty of awesome people who devote their lives to others who are not Christian. For me it's a chance to live out life in community on our journey with Christ into the Kingdom. Cade is bright and healthy and i wish him peace and continued success in his endeavors. I guess i'm still needy and complicated. Cade is blessed with the ability to see through things clearly.; he has an excellent mind. Maybe, though, my inability to see things so black and white keeps me in relationship with Christian community. I sure appreciate this video and Cade's willingness to share his compelling story.

I chased Jesus and the moment I sought after building my relationship with Christ instead of chasing religion, only then did my same sex attraction diminish. Now I’m happily married to a woman.

I went to Catholic school for all 12 years as well as going to Catholic Church almost every week. When I was growing up we had many " flamboyant " priests and brothers and many masculine looking and acting nuns and yet nobody seemed to be able to put 2 and 2 together. And at the Catholic high school I went to they have been in the news in the last few years because of firing both the principle and a long time English teacher when it was discovered that they were gay . And yet I still get constant mail asking for me to donate money to the school . I could really go on a long rant but I won't . But the hypocrisy , yikes !

I am not sure if Cade will see this, or even care. but your relationship will organically grow advice and coaching from others is good and helpful, but there is no black and white with any relationship. take advice but let it grow and evolve organically Be most happy with groth. this is from a 63 YO life long gay man. I just want to comment regarding what Cade says at 23:34 regarding the chruch being infallible. There is a lot of misconception about the infallibility of the church. Actually the catholic church has never claimed to be infallible, but there is a teaching on the magisterium or what is otherwise called the infallibility of the pope (not the church). I'm not going to go into detail but it doesn't mean that the pope cannot err or do no wrong thing. In fact, the church has gotten a lot of teachings wrong numerous times in history! To name a few: the church changed its position on slavery (it was for it before!!!), the teaching on limbo, pope john paul ii, said sorry for excommunicating galileo after 350 years for saying that the sun is the center of the solar system (not the earth, which was the widely accepted belief back then, how it had religious connections, i leave to you to research. haha). I guess my point is, as a gay catholic, i still choose to be with the church not because it is perfect or that it's teachings are all correct. But because the community and support it provides is valuable to me. I hope all gays in the church find your peace and happines - inside the church or otherwise. This is very similar to the Conservative evangelical views on the subject. I spent 15 years in a church, worked 12 years in ministry work. And I stayed single, and I found that they don't treat single people as good as they treat married people, though they wouldn't say that out loud, that was the outcome. I did try marrying a girl, but thankfully that fell through, because I was in denial I fear that that marriage would have been miserably. I did exactly the same thing as Cade . I joined the ultra-conservative Roman Catholic Order called The Legionaries of Christ. I’m so glad I left . I’m now openly Gay and Jewish .

What Cade described is the same situation with divorced and remarried Catholics who are without a Church annullment. Neither can they receive communion . So basically gays and divorced and remarried Catholics are welcomed at mass and loved by many priests and congregants. The sad thing is the hierarchy treats these people like second class citizens without saying it.

like Cade i also at one point thought i wanted to be a priest, but it was only to run away from the "same sex attraction" thankfully it did not happen but i realized i suppressed so much of who i was. I would sometimes go and kneel and try to pray the gay away... i would often cry... ironically enough it was two priests who helped me come to my senses and get out of the catholic church. I am still single but no longer struggling and hating myself just for being gay. It's awsome that Cade found himself very early in life instead of going thru years of struggling as a closeted self hating catholic.

This young guy is smart, articulate and handsome. In my experience of being gay and Catholic is very different than his. The Church is not black and white! It’s a community of individuals on a journey. The fact that he joined up with an extreme group of Latin mass an ultra conservative small group of extreme catholics. They are a small minority in the Church. It is an insight into this young mans needs. Catholic are Christians. He could be part of Christianity if he wanted to. Th Christian Church is huge and welcoming to all walks of life Lastly, he is giving out dating and relationship advice? Really? He had been in a relationship for a year? I think i will pass on his advice. His understanding of Catholicism is blinded by his black and white understanding of faith. I wish him success in his endeavors.

You might want to look at the Episcopal Church which is very Catholic, but open to gays who serve with distinction. The high Anglican Tradition has the Anglo-Catholic tradition, but also open to gay persons. You might want to explore.

I don’t know if this means anything to you. But regardless of the church Cade is definitely walking in his God given purpose (with the podcast, running, etc.) and it is evident that he will continue to walk in it in his current and next pursuits.

Excommunication is a lot like shunning.

Don’t seek religion. Can you still Seek God and abandon religion? I think so. After all it’s about relationship with him. Internally. He is your Father/creator. He longs for you to seek him. He will accept you as you are. All the rules…none of us are perfect at & will never be. If you were once a person of faith, I would imagine that you would find yourself still turning to him without rejection. He loves you still I think the church has failed us. And that in itself may be the Bibles purpose. He can only be found within. The church should only be a place to point us to him. *AND I say that without believing His intent is to make you straight! Simply that you talk to Him brings him joy. I don’t want to change my daughter. I love her just the way she is. I do believe we are ever changing and hopefully refining our character. That is the way of life. But that is different, I don’t need her to be with a man to love her.

A lot is being said about relationships here. I am Jewish thus take it with a grain of salt. I thought the Catholic Church frown upon relationships of any kind for its priests and leaders. Not just SSA (same sex attraction) but any kind. As to the followers, I don't think the Church cares which orientation you follow. They will not perform a gay wedding but if you are gay and leaving with another man, they still will receive you in their messes and church activities. Here in Chicago, there one priest that I know very well. I am sure everyone that has talked with him thinks he is gay. He has one of those personality that no closet can hold it. At the best of my knowledge, he is fine among other priests and the followers really enjoy his messes. BTW I have had two or more priests telling me that I look good in their eyes and we both knew what he was talking about.

So many times I’ve gotten on here to comment in the middle of your video and have had to delete my questions because I have not got to the end. Once again, I’ve not listened to the whole thing, but I was raised Catholic and, by the way, I am not gay. I am a straight mom With a gay daughter, but in my childhood, there was a wonderful priest in our parish and one day he was just gone vanished. I heard that he confessed that he wanted to date women. Which was breaking his vow of celibacy. So if you change your mind or if life changes, things change, you are let go. Basically the contract becomes void. Kind of like changing jobs. It could just be time to move on. Hopefully they are still friendly, loving and accepting toward you. They present the vow of celibacy as a law and if broken there are consequences. I think you can seek God and abandon religion. He is your Father after all.

If you are a closeted LGBTQ+ Roman Catholic, and discerning the call to the priesthood, consider converting to certain denominations in Protestantism, for example the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), The Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the United Church of Christ, and now the United Methodist Church that are all LGBTQ+ affirming. You can both freely live out your sexual orientation, AND your call to ordered service in the Church.

The Catholic Church has a lot of beauty. At the same time, the Catholic Church has changed over the last 30 years on gays and lesbians. When I came out in 1998 as a gay divorced man, there was little tolerance from the Church. Being celebate for your entire life is nonsense. However, there are Catholic priests over that period who have been understanding and have been supportive of gay men and lesbians having sexual relations. Yet, the Catholic Church still continues its policies opposing gays and lesbians.

I missed the liturgy of the hours so I ended up needing to make a simple one of my own. I did so by finding passage from books, poems, quotes I liked and organizing them. Don't try to do it all at once. Start with a morning, evening and night "prayer" then focus on building out the week. Don't rush it don't try to do it all at once. Leaving that type of structure can be hard.

Jesus (Yeshua) embraced the LGBTQI community. This is evident when he cured the centurions beloved slave. All these truths are in the Gospel of Thomas. I was Catholic, now I know the truth of what Yeshua taught, now I have a real relationship with Him.

He is an excellent speaker. He puts it plainly. He decided he wouldn’t be single. So he gave up on Gods word as truth so he can have a possibility and companionship that could or could no work out. That remains a fact regardless if you believe the practice of homosex is wrong or right.

Interesting that Cade was rejected from the monastic life just because of your attractions, when so many priests are gay and there are openly gay priests now (celibate ones). As a gay Catholic, I am actually at odds with Cade about clarity and the all-or-nothing aspect. I find it frustrating how unclear a lot of the teachings are, and how we are supposed to reconcile the Church's belief in progressive revelation with the idea that current teaching has authority. You mention how it is clear who goes to hell and who doesn't, but I actually think it's really murky. The Church teaches that believing cannot guarantee salvation, and that a mortal sin can send you to tell but only if you have full knowledge and cooperation, and sometimes strong emotion or mental health issues that impede that, and St. Faustina believed everyone has a chance to repent when/after their die in this spacetime outside spacetime. And also, there is massive diversity of belief within Catholic tradition and across different segments of the Church - for example, with the teachings on abortion and usury changing over time and with the German bishops wants to recognized same-sex relationships while the African bishops thinking gay sex should be a jailable offence (neither of which are official church teaching). And I also know that the Church teaches that the sacraments are barred to people "in mortal sin" but we all know that the Church in practice regularly gives the sacraments to people who should be excommunicated under Canon law, such as politicians who are openly in support of abortion. I relate a lot with the male host about needing to be honest about the intense love you can experience through religion and the Church specifically, and not being sure about how to do that while also acknowledging it is also connected to a lot of bad stuff. And somehow it is easy to accept when a Muslim or Buddhist say they have had a deep experience of the divine without perfect theology, but it's harder to accept when it comes to you - even when your religion teaches that it doesn't know everything.

I have been bi (same sex attracted) since i was 10 years old but never engaged in anal sex. I grew up in the church and i will never deny my faith even as the church doesn’t support or help with my attractions. I grow in the grace and mercy of the Lord every day with this attraction i have. But, instead of being single to stay in line with church teachings, how about accepting that the New Testament view on any relationship forbids sexual activity outside of monogamous hetero marriage, called “porneia “. That’s very challenging when same sex attraction seems natural and never ending. The Bible specifically calls out “catamite” (effeminate, passive, submissive, bottom) and “sodomite” (dominant, top) . But there are many loving same sex relationships in the Bible that are not sexual. David and Jonathan loved each other passionately with love more than that of a woman. John reclined on Jesus chest. And many others who showed deep affection for the same sex. Modern church (19th century) changed these specific words to the generic homosexual. This is not biblically accurate. You can be in a loving, affectionate same sex relationship and not engage in anal sex. The sex part is what determines sodomite/catamite or not. Well, that’s my view anyway.

Let’s not forget that he suppressed himself… you could be a priest and be gay. I don’t think ppl realise that.

I didn't always have a positive relationship with religion, yet I still maintain a bit of faith, but yeah I'm going through exactly what buddy went through, if I choose to live in my truth I'd be choosing my sexuality over religion. In my community, there's no in-between.

I tried being a pastor as a woman and the devil said no ie life events . I am low income my car is about to fail ie parents car no more cars from them and I can’t add a car bought. I might get my parents car it’s paid off but it’s old no guarantee it survives a few yrs. I am moving into town and my church requires a car bus won’t go there

Churches pay well. By 40 sex is boring anyway

The Catholic Church is definitely misunderstood in many ways....in what appears to be this major rules that are so black and white or will get you kicked out, are actually healthy boundaries leading to a deeper inner freedom and helping one detach from disordered desires. It teaches true love for every human & values every human, just not necessarily tolerating every action which can hurt humans in the long run. There's a difference between freedom & relief.

Catholicism: the religion of ceremonies, vestments, catechisms is not a peoples' religion. Jesus was all about people: love, charity, acceptance!!! Their toleration of gay people is strictly Middle Ages: circa 1500! Religion needs to modernize (there was a transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament) and that transition was Jesus !! The Catholic Church is too mired in the Middle Ages to ever change!!!

33:00 - it’s not as bad as it seems if you can at least see that we Catholics (and Orthodox) have a different theology than Protestants. If we truly believe that the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Jesus, like truly, and we were to receive him after having committed a mortal sin and not repented from it, we would be eating and drinking judgment upon ourselves (1 Cor 11:29). So the stakes are high here! It does feel bad to not be able to receive communion, but it’s better not to offend God and ourselves honestly by doing that.

First, it sounds like Cade has some misunderstandings about Catholicism and he tends to be a black and white thinker who is presenting the Catholic Church as black and white, but it's not. When it comes to the sexual ethics of the Catholic Church, they apply to everyone regardless of whether one experiences same sex attraction, opposite sex attraction, or both. The purpose of sex is both procreative and unitive, and is only to be done in marriage. Yes, it's a hard teaching. But God's laws are for human flourishing. Stop and think about how our our hyper sexed, porn-filled culture would change if people actually followed this teaching. If people only engaged in sex when in a loving bond, committed for life, and dedicated to the care and well being of their children, it would have significant benefits for society. Abortion would become obsolete. Divorce, which is devastating for children and many adults, would also become obsolete. Single parenthood, which is really hard on the parent and the children, would decrease significantly. People who are not built for marriage do not have to merely pursue hedonistic pleasures - they can instead use their gifts to love others in friendship, in brotherhood, sisterhood, and engage in activities that help the community. There are many Catholics who do this. Some become consecrated virgins. They do not join the priesthood, the monastics, nor the convents, but they dedicate themselves to God and take vows of chastity and live and work just like everybody else. There are some people in the Church who were in same sex relationships prior to becoming Catholic but have now chosen to live chastely with the person they love, and they live together and care for each other, just without the sex. David Morrison, a former gay activist, wrote a book about this called "Beyond Gay". David Morrison is an example of someone who found a way to stay in a fulfilling relationship with a man while also staying in full communion with the Catholic Church. Cade chose to hide his attractions and pretended to be something he wasn't. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if he had been more honest and told people that he was experiencing same sex attraction but trying his best to live in accordance with God's designs for sex. We all struggle with sexual sin, regardless of who we are attracted to, and the Catholic Church offers help for everyone who struggles with sexual sin, and she also offers radical love and mercy. Could the Church do better? Of course. She is not perfect, she is full of sinners, but there are good reasons for these teachings on sex. Go back and read how the pagans treated women and children. It was awful. Christians changed all of that for the better, and now people are trying to reverse it and we see the consequences. Online porn, sex trafficking, fatherlessness, abortion, and divorce have all gotten worse since the sexual revolution.

I'm a conservative Christian and I believe like the overwhelming majority of people that the bible clearly condemns homosexuality. I don't have a problem with you guys having a podcast about coming out and talking about your experiences. However, you seem to only talk to people who agree with your stances. While it is your right, I'm not sure it makes for very enriching conversations. I think you should reach out to people on the other side of the fence also. Else what good is there to only converse with people who already agree about everything?

I was raised in a Catholic home, and experienced gender confusion from an early age. This led to a homosexual identity. In 2008, as a gay-identified man, in a committed, monogamous same-sex relationship, active in an affirming church, I ended up in ICU where the medical team classified me clinically dead after a 22-minute flatline. I experienced death, judgement and hell. I want to challenge your guest in asking him if he ever sought advice, guidance, direction from anyone other than himself. While he is extremely articulate, seemingly well read, and certainly drawn to the intellectual life, the same could be said of some of the worst people in all of human history. Not that this young men is one of those, but he still has much life to live in order to determine where and by what spirit he will be led. It is patently disingenuous, however, to,say one is barred from all, Church involvement because of mortal sin. One can still go to Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Communal and or individual rosaries and other prayer groups. Yes, one must go to Confession if they have committed mortal sin before receiving communion, but that is generally available anytime you want to go, either at set times in your Parish or by appointment with a priest. He strikes me as a young man who is very full of himself, arrogant and seriously lacking in humility. Not surprised he would replace some as beautiful, inspiring and mystical as Catholicism with some as barbaric and self absorbed ad David Goggensism. Makes perfect sense.

Hmm... I was an intensely religious Evangelical incel for 20 years. When repression and gender dysphoria got to be so bad that I realized my whole life was falling apart, I seriously considered converting to Orthodoxy or Catholicism (found a local, very conservative, Byzantine Catholic church), to totally lean into enforced celibacy and self-shaming. I even tried dating a girl who was converting to Catholicism (which was a huge deal for me). But... when we tried to make out, it felt so wrong, somehow that experience finally broke through to me that I must not be straight, and might not even be a real "man" at all. Anyway, now I'm 3 years into medical gender transition, and have radically deconstructed my faith, thank God! 😇🏳‍⚧⚧
