Hopefully this will be the last episode of the TS-940 upgrades for a while. In this video, I want to replace the Attenuator Relays located on the RF Board. I am trying the Panasonic DS1E-M-DC12V which appears to be a direct replacement for the factory units.

Fantastic! Many thanks for sharing this. I ordered them today from Digikey. I don't need them at the moment but expect my TS-940S will likely soon. From my experience cleaning relays is a temporary fix. In this case the relays are cheap and a person has to take them out to clean them so why not replace them. Relays commonly go bad when too little current flows through the contacts such as in signal switching. Because not enough current flows through the contacts to burn through oxidation that forms on the contact,. over time it builds up to the point they just don't work any longer. But here the cheap fix is just to replace them and they should work for another 30 - 40 years. Which is longer that the rest of the radio (and me) will probably be functional. 👍

I think I know the reason why they are 0dB on powered up position. When the radio is off it kind of protects the RF circuit from lighing strike and other nearby transmitting radios. I have seen those small resistors go bad, and the reason is probably lightning or some kind of missuse where you accidently drive power to connector behind the radio. I have sticky relays too and will change the relays for sure sometime. I cleaned them but they stick still with the covers on... Thanks for this video Tim!

Just a note: I recently purchased these relays from an online source called Future Electronics. They were marked Panasonic DS1E-M-DC12V $3.53 a piece. With shipping four of these relays cost $22.12
