I am a empty nester (without the syndrom😂) and I have chronic pain... so I use most of my time and sleepless (menopause) nights to study the Bible like my life depents on it... because it does. My husband is not a engourager in this earea. But I stay motivated. I love every detail that I can learn about my Creator/Father, Saviour and Comforter. I feel so blessed that I am able to explain the gospel... answering questions of friends... having a Biblical opinion about what's going on in this world... Sorry for my english... I am Dutch and live on an African island... so english is a little out of my system.

The qualifications for the church office deacon include "husband of one wife". Words have a semantic range, and it takes context to understand the Greek word diakonos as to if meaning just servant or an ordained office. Unless you accept homosexual marriage, the office of deacon is male only. Older women ought teach younger women in an unofficial capacity. Asking if woman ought be theologians is stupid because every human is a theologian, even an atheist. The better question is:. Should they study theology, yes!
@mikedspringstead5974
@mikedspringstead5974 11 месяцев назад
The qualifications passage aside, Paul does use the word translated "deacon" in reference to Phoebe in the closing chapter to the Romans. While that is not the word's sole possibility of meaning, it must be at least be considered and responded to, not ignored.

@@mikedspringstead5974 As you wrote, the word TRANSLATED deacon. Just as Apostle can be translated messenger and thus lose the contextual meaning. The fact remains we have clear specific REQUIREMENTS for the Church office called deacon and they include the husband of one wife. Unless you go with "trans" madness, that means no official women deacons. Now, unofficial is completely different as a servant. There is NO official position of a woman in the Church that puts her managing, teaching or ordering an adult man. As to the qqualifications passage aside...how can you set aside a specific clear passage in deference to modern sensibilities? Sorry, the modern Western Church is gynocentric and misandric like the world it apes. Laodicea rising.

no one said a husband should read all his wife’s books first. They say Household authority includes the responsibility to not let her be influenced by false teachers. He can be aware of who she’s reading and listening to without always reading them. 🙄 That’s just spiritual leadership

I think the argument for deaconesses is quite strong. There is a Biblical example that must be argued away. The natural parallel between older women and deacons suggests they would be a church role. And the historical argument for the office is strong as well. Especially outside those Baptist circles that are not Deacon-run instead of Elder-governed. In fact, imho, it is only that phenomenon in the American Church that muddies the water. There is no confessional issue. No prohibition in role, since Deacons are not a teaching office. And the historical evidence is overwhelmingly in favor, and from an early date.

Absolutely. I found it interesting when I heard one of the pastors say that women teaching other women will usurp the husband's authority, and we should [only] listen to our husbands. Sounds like they just usurped my husband's authority, being that they aren't my pastor/elder, and neither are they my husband. Of course, ultimately my husband is head over me, and he enjoys my learning, as well as us being able to sharpen one another. They're too far on that side of the ditch.

Anyone who says women can't teach women evidently haven't read the Book of Titus or Proverbs 31. "She has opened her mouth with wisdom, with loving instruction on her tongue." Proverbs 31:26 (NET) "Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good. In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited." Titus 2:3-5 (NET)

Agreed, I am patriarchal and not complementarian nor egalitarian. OF COURSE women ought to learn and sober women of experience ought teach the younger. For reference, as a father began teaching my youngest daughter organic chemistry by the age of 8 (she is brilliant) and have encouraged learning in all my daughters and wife who routinely teach each other and in private, non official ay, me. This is not about capacity nor the preservation of male ego. This is about following the commands given to us by the Apostles in official settings. Unfortunately, the patriarchal movement is plagued by extreme idiots, I am NOT speaking of all.

The church of Jesus Christ is no place for secular views on the roles of men and women. Scripture must be the guide on any practice, and a high view of scripture. Women are not qualified to be pastors according to the New Testament. IF this goes against secular sensibilities or viewpoints, then so be it. We are to be Christ's Church as it is revealed in scripture. God does not change and neither does Holy Scripture.

I suggest my short and free essay on Deborah. Men and women are perfectly equal spiritually. She was a pastor, according to the scriptures. This is how the Judges are described in Chronicles. A Judge was the most important spiritual leader of that time period according to scripture. When a Judge died the people went back to their sinful ways. To say a woman can be a Judge over Israel, but a woman can't be an elder in a small church, just doesn't make any sense scripturally.

When it comes to women pastors, the Apostle Paul says older women are to teach younger women, doesn't that imply that women can be pastors who minster exclusively to women? In the ancient church, minsters would take women deaconess with him when ministering to women to prevent anything untoward happening, why not bring back such a practice?

I am sympathetic to the patriarchy movement but ultimately want scripture to be the ultimate and not allow my thinking to react too far in the wrong direction. After studying the scripture I believe women can be deacons, however, most churches are structured for deacons to almost be assistant pastors, if this is the case then women in those churches could not be deacons. I am also very sympathetic to the position that women cannot be deacons. One thing that seems clear to me in the broader context of scripture: creational ordering is not to be applied as if it is the mosaic law, ridged, very specific and binding. However, it is also very wrong to act like creational mandates in scripture are only to be applied in the church and ignored in every other area of life. I agree with everything these great men said, except for women allowed to be deacons.

Would be nice for you to get on the podcast with Right Response Ministries instead of sub-tweeting Joel Webbon's very astute response about limiting what his wife wanted to read in that case. Minutes 12-16 in this podcast - just have to say respectfully disagree with most things said in that segment so far. Look at the times we are in, is it because we don't have learned enough women? Or is it because we have loud and un-submissive women? Do we see women model obedience, fathers and husbands lifted up and empowered? Yes, an over correction to having women have no learnedness towards core doctrine would be wrong - but this also hamstrings the depth of theological knowing there can be had in being the Oikos Despot by saying it's less important than time spent in the more meta-theological foundation. The Prov 31 woman did not get up in the morning to "study" - she went about deeds and was known AT the gates, but she wasn't in the gates discussing politics and theology.
