Singkil is the Filipino version of the Ramayana, the story of God Ram (Hindu, Indian god). The reason for it being from India is because prior to the Spanish colonialistion, philippines was heavily Indianised and used to have Hinduism mixed with folk religion as its religion. There were also 2 prominent hindu kingdoms 700 years ago, Rajahnate of butuan and Cebu. And the word rajah(and also rani) is a sanskrit word (Indian).
@@sarahpruitt6854 it's better to watch history videos and Wikipedia articles because pre colonial history isn't even taught in schools in Philippines and that too glosses over the atrocities of the Spanish since they Christianized Philippines. @@robertprin554 I'm not looking down on tinikling. Both if them are very challenging dances, but I just think Singkil is just too elegant, and in performances I've watched, I've observed that the audiences are usually quiet. In contrast, tinikling is much more seen as a fun, exciting, and festive dance and the crowd commonly cheers for the dancers, especially when it speeds up.

i dont see any cheap costumes here,i dont know why people are commenting such rude instead of appreciting what they have seen and be proud of the filipino muslim dance.
Why most of the Filipino cultural dance group always presented Muslim or tribal dances when going to other countries. Why you are not presenting the Hispanic heritage dances like the last jota, mazurca, pandanggo etc? It is the reason why I like Bayanihan Folkdancers and Sindaw Folkdancers because they were the only ones who present the general culture of us that speaks the very selves of the major Filipinos.
maybe you can check some of their performances coz last time i check they do have variety of cultural dances performed in europe, showcasing not just muslim or tribal dances (as you've said) but also rural and maria clara dances(google it). Dont judge a group by just a single video that youve watched.
they are not always presented muslims dances ,they also have tinikling,maria clara dance,and so on.but anyways muslims dance specially singkil is d best for me bcoz it shows d originality of us,d prince and princess of our past.we were muslims before spanish time.but anyway singkil is most likely foreigners wants ,it show that we have had prince and princess.

Very common to international folkdance already since it is always used by the Filipino Folkdancers in almost all presentation Muslim and Igorot tribals. Boring...
@@dasigkatama029 It has a Hindu influence right, same with Malaysians and Indonesians. It is categorized as Muslim since the Maranao are muslims. Same as all the jota, polka and other similar Filipino folkdance are of Spanish influence and categorized as the dances of the Christian Filipinos since these were being danced by the people of the Philippines in the regions with Catholic Christian community.
Your rudeness and ignorance is quite superb. First, Singkil is a Ramayana inspired dance from India, you don't need to categorize it as Muslim dance just because the current population are now converted to Islam, same as Jotas are not Catholic danzas. Lastly, Why would you present a dance that's almost the same from the other groups? The attention of viewers are always on the unique side. If you want to see Spanish influence danzas, go and search the Asian competition not the Western side like this.
of course they always have to use same folkdancers and cant be changed bcoz if they change the platform it would not be original.just be proud of our culture.anyways im not tired or get bored of watching it.i even watch it 10 times sometimes.if you find it boring then dont watch !!
The costume my God, the slit ng dress ng fan girl masyadong mataas..dont forget this dance are from Maranao people and muslim sila. Research din pag may time kung sino man ang choregrapher nito ayusin nyo nman. Basta nyo nlang sinasayaw without proper research sa culture. Ginawa nyo tuloy bakya ang sayaw.
