TTYD Enemies React to Mario Getting Hurt

Love how Rawk Hawk and Bowser straight up laugh at you.

I really love the fact that not all the boss's laugh at Mario (or his partner) getting hit by an offstage object. It really shows their seriousness and personality on how nothing may appear funny to them since they know they have a job to do - and that, of course, is to defeat Mario.

Fun Fact: This was a thing from 64 that didn't make it to the original gcn TTYD, but in 64 only some enemies would have it and it would be triggered by doing certain actions like jumping on a spiky goomba or being attacked by said, there are more examples but I forgot.

I find it funny how Vivian goes from chuckling right back to depression during the shadow sirens fight lol

Gotta love the detail of Vivian and Merylin giving little giggles as Mario gets hurt meanwhile Beldam just does a full on laugh

Piranha plants being able to laugh indicates they are intelligent enough to have a sense of irony, which hardly any animals have. That means the rooted ones are stuck in the same position, all day, popping in and out of the ground all their lives.

Fun fact: If you have all or nothing badge equipped and finish the enemy in the first hit then miss the second hit they fall over in their normal animation instead of the hurt animation

Interestingly, the Chomps, Bill Blasters, Dragons, Magnus, Cortez, Smorg, Grodus, and the Shadow Queen DON’T react… I guess the blasters are inanimate but still…

Bones, beldam and mush's laugh are amazing

Finally, I wanted to see all of these. This change alone adds so much character to the game

My two boys, Prince Mush and Doopliss have some stellar laughing animations. Doopliss looks like he's genuinely enjoying Mario and co's suffering. The fact that Doopliss has 10 different laughing animations is baffling (Laughing as himself, Shadow Mario, Mario, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi kid, Vivian, Bobbery and Ms Mowz). Then there's Mush, my boy Mush. Such a proud "Pfft, skill issue" imo.

6:15 Bellum for some reason hit me like whiplash when I saw it

Thanks for taking the time to get all of these! I remember being really confused about Bobbery, Marilyn, and Beldum having new laughing animations when I saw the credits, but I didn’t know they were just the “laughing at you for getting hit” animations, so thanks for enlightening me!

Crazy the amount of detail they went into the expressions this remake, especially when they didn’t have to! Love how they even went the extra mile to add Bobbery and Ms. Mowz’s animations too in the one instance you got hit by an audience hazard while Doopliss copied them! Cool too how some of the more serious bosses also don’t laugh at all like the dragons, Cortez, the Shadow Queen, and Whacka (who I assumed must be pissed as all hell).

There’s even animations for enemies laughing at you whenever stage props fall on you, they really went above and beyond with the character, enemy and NPC expressions!

One thing i noticed about the partners is that all of them use their appeal animation, except bobbery and mowz, who both use a new animation to the remake (edit: correction, mowz' animation is her successful kiss thief animation, thx) with bobbery's being used nowhere else as far as i remember, (correction 2: bobbery laughs in the credits, thx again) and mowz' being used in some of her encounters during the story (Correction 3, turns out I'm not that knowledgeable lol: Bobbery's laugh is also used during the chapter 7 thwomp quiz)

This is one of, if not my favorite attention-to-detail changes in the remake.

Lord Crump: I mean, I would do a super cool evil laugh, but Magnus's cockpit is a little... cramped. But that's it's ONLY drawback though!

I didn't know the enemies/bosses laughed when you get hurt by an audience member/stage prop until I saw this guy (6:33) do it during my playthrough. 😆

I actually never noticed that the enemies laugh if you get hit by something; because I didn't ever get hit by a crowd thrown object. It is an extra bit of detail that is very cool.

I been joking about when this type of video would be made, and now its here. My life is complete.

I discovered this for the first time by accident when I fought the Shadow Sisters in Boggly Woods! I wasn't expecting a laughing animation at all when I got hits by one of those blue worms, it was hilarious!😂 Nintendo really out done themselves with this remake! It still feels like a dream replaying this after 20 years!

that's a very useful video!...but it is structured very weirdly. wouldn't it make more sense to show all enemies that share the same animation at once? like showing every goomba at once at the screen, but cut off so it doesn't show the other enemies in the field? that's another thing- it shows the animation for other enemies while the focus is supposed to be on OTHER enemy, so you see the same animation twice in the video, and it makes it longer than it should imo other than that, again, very useful video!

I only noticed the whole enemies chuckling when you get hurt animation around the end of the game. Seeing this video makes me appreciate all the efforts the developers did to make this game the best it can be.

Wow! I never thought Nintendo would add enemies chuckling animation for the remake or did that happen in a previous Paper Mario games? Either way, I think it's a nice addition.
