Tuba Skinny plays "Some of these Days " at The Spotted Cat 4/10/12 Erika Lewis - vocals Todd Burdick- Tuba Shaye Cohn - Cornet Barnabus Jones - Trombone Robin Rapuzzi - Washboard John Doyle - Sax
I love how well Shaye directs everyone from her seat and they follow seamlessly, I always get the feeling it’s a top class jam session. I mean that as a compliment as I’ve always felt many musicians where are their best in that environment.
I was here I think around 2009 and stumbled on The Spotted Cat after being disappointed with not finding this on Bourbon Street. What an amazing night. Most of these musicians were there but I remember they were calling it the Progressive Jazz band. If you're looking for real New Orleans music forget Bourbon Street and walk down to Frenchman Street.

This was the happiest accident for me... I was searching for New Orleans stuff on RU-vid and ended up on a tuba skinny video, and of course, fell in love with the music; seriously how can you not??

I found this band a few months ago, then learned a few weeks ago they are scheduled to play the Newport Jazz Feast this summer. I live In RI, so I'm going!

Marvelous band playing my music with a very great rhythm. I also have 9 piece Dixieland Band but far north east in our fantastic Finland nearby Helsinki. I'd like to meet you Tuba Skinny i next october, when we are in New Orleans. I love you all!
Love the guy on the washboard wonderful rhythm & timing. They all make a wonderful sound.I am sure if the musicians from the early 20th Century could hear them they would heartily approve.
Could listen to this 24/7.Shaye is so talented that at ca. 3.00 she can tap the tempo with one foot, and a slower tempo with the other foot! You try it - it's like rubbing your stomach with one hand, and tapping your head with the other!!
So happy to watch young people playing this music ! Great band where everyone is at the right place. I felt like dancing beating the floor from the beginning to the end ! gona buy your CDs.
I have a big band and I mwould still be playing jazz with a group like this God bless you all for staying togetheer. You are the best Nad I have played with the best Robert Seago
This is brilliant, just brilliant. I love the way Erica seems so concerned whilst she is singing that it appears one of Robin's thimbles had flown off and seems to land at her feet. You could not get better than this natural talented band and with a singer that good there is no better band. Miss Erica being with them regularly but makes the thrill so much more when she does. Oh how I love them all. Xx
"Some of these days You'll miss your honey Some of these days You'll feel so lonely You'll miss my hugging You'll miss my kisses You'll miss me, honey When you go away I feel so lonely Just for you only For you know, honey You've had your way And when you leave me I know you'll grieve me You'll miss your little honey Some of these days"
I could imagine watching this band and not having that feeling of embarrassment (for the band and everyone in the room) unlike 95% if the bands I've seen in my life. Great job! I'm playing along on piano. Learning some new chord progressions.
As a working musician (trumpet and keyboards) I always find it interesting how other musicians tap their feet to "keep time." It's interesting because most of us aren't even aware what our feet are doing, I mention subject because I was watching Shaye in this video clip. That girl has BOTH feet going part of the time! She got her mojo goin' in high gear! ;-) Love Tuba Skinny!
I love how John Doyle adds so much when he is in the band, and the way he adds a great deal of important colors and flavors with that tenor! What a great band!
The first few notes knocked me out what a band, what a singer, I was looking for a Doris Day song, move over Doris, Tuba Skinny has taken over the deadwood stage. Thanks for your lovely sounds. Hart.
ust 'melting' here in rainy cold UK for these fabulous stomping, syncopated beats and your gorgeous simple melodic swings....can't stop the need to dance!
Hi Absolute wonderf.Musik.Euer team spielt hervoragende musik stücke .Sehr bewunders werd auch von German seite aus zu hören.Wünsche euch allen, weiter so das man euch weiter enjoy kann.
I've watched/listened to this 10 or more times (love it), and what I'm really impressed with more than ever is how Shaye subtly directs the band with just-in-time instruction on when breaks are taken, when to play quietly, when to do a soft harmony. It's all in her head and she gets the band to do it. All credit to the band too for being right there.
