This is the most useful video I've found demonstrating this technique. The fact that it's a jogless cast on is what sealed the deal for me. Any time I need a tutorial, I look at several videos, and time and time again, it's Suzanne Bryan for the win.

The easiest version of the cast-on I’ve seen! It does require that the knitting is quite tidy, I have so far been getting a rather loose edge whereas with the version where you fold and join two edges makes a very tidy edge but a lot more fiddly!
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 года назад
Some people find that if they go down a needle size or two for the cast on and double knitting rows, then go up to the preferred size after that, that their ribbing is tidier.

I’ve always wanted to learn the kitchener cast on method before I knew what the technical name for it was. A few years ago I bought a nice knitting book to improve my skills and I did learn a lot from it but the illustrations and descriptions for Kitchener rib was too confusing and I always gave up. You are my go-to source for knitting instructions, thank you so much for sharing your talents and skills! I especially like that I can see these methods and techniques using the continental style of knitting. First, I made a boo-boo and it actually turned out OK! Instead of; crochet provisional stitches -> divide stitches -> k1, yo cast on -> continue tubular knitting, I did; crochet provisional stitches -> k1, yo cast on -> divide stitches -> continue tubular knitting. This way worked for me because it seemed like I was able to control that yo stitch better. Second, I did the tubular cast on using the flexi-flip needles. I have not used circular needles to cast on yet, it's on my list, but it's kinda intimidating! Thanks again and hope you are staying safe and healthy!

Thank you for the clear instruction. I've already finished a pair of fingerless gloves years ago with tubular cast on. At that time I didn't use provisional cast on -- followed the method without waste yarn. However I must say that I failed not only a number of time but also found the stitches slightly uneven. I've just started a pullover for my husband and this time I don't want to feel stressed anymore. I'm going to follow your instruction. This is my second attempt to knit a garment. :0 Fingers crossed!

However the provisional cast on stitches definitely helped and after a few rounds I managed to make it! :) I forgot to redistribute stitches around the join, as a result the first few rounds there is slightly sloppy. I’ll try to prevent this next time. Also the yarn I’m using is quite fuzzy looking sport weight, that is why it was not easy to succeed at the very first try.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 6 лет назад
Great. It does get better with practice. When I first learned how to do it, I had to try it several times before it looked as good as I wanted it to. Also, smaller needles can help at the beginning, then switch to the normal size after the double knitting rounds are done - as you start the ribbing.

Wonderful tutorial! Two techniques in one, I have always struggled with provisional cast on with a crochet hook, thank you for this.

I don't have two cables of the same size so I tried it with one cable and it didn't work out very well. So I tried with it DPNs and it worked. :) I'm doing a hat and need 100 stitches (50 crochets)
