In this video I briefly cover Tulsa's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make it unique. Thanks for watching: Tulsa Overview | An informative introduction to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tulsa is like a rich people town. Barely any walking space on the roads. Real rich people live in the deep south of Tulsa , while the poor and homeless thrive around Admiral Flea Market central , West Tulsa ( Sand Springs ) and of course 61st and S. Peoria ( the new North Tulsa ) if you get my drift. The city has potential but it needs some serious industrial development and progressive programs. Too many homeless people from Arkansas ( i may add ).

Back in the historic old days, a lot of cities had money and were able to afford very expensive elaborate buildings. These days, it’s probably less likely since a lot of cities aren’t as prominent as they used to be.

The art deco architecture in Tulsa is directly linked to it's time as the Oil Capital. The oil boom funded much of the construction during a time when that style was popular.

Oklahoma also has great fresh water streams, rivers, lakes. Boating, fishing, hiking, camping, scenery! Also they have a great Zoo. Wildlife. All that I love. A diverse population which I love! Most people are friendly and welcoming. We got to visit the original burial place of the Gilcrease family. On my neighbors land. Thier cemetery was there. I have found interesting artifacts from an old fresh water spring that is tucked in the hills where I grew up. I still own that part. I always wanted to make it into a park area! My piece of heaven, my name for it.

I would love to visit Tulsa someday because of the parks, but didn’t realize how many Art Deco buildings they actually have. I’ve become a big fan of this unique style. I did not know about half the things you mentioned, so Bravo! As Oklahoma’s second city, Tulsa is always in the shadow of Oklahoma City. Nice to see such a great video spotlighting this place. 😎🥇⭐️🎤 🏙

"As Oklahoma’s second city, Tulsa is always in the shadow of Oklahoma City." -------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, there's a number of reasons for that. As Tulsa is my hometown I rather think that's good. Tulsa has not yet been "discovered" by the national media like Okla. City has. The press refers to Tulsa as "Tulsa Oklahoma" (instead of just Tulsa), as if some clueless joe might think Tulsa was some small town in Alaska or New Hampshire. In our culture, when you've got a good thing going, as Tulsa has, it's best to keep quiet and out of the spotlight. 🙂
@rchilde1
@rchilde1 9 месяцев назад
@@kenthompson5723 there is a lot of truth in your statements, but people should know that there was a time back in the late 1970s-mid 1980s when Tulsa overshined OKC in many ways (never in population) that outsiders would think Tulsa was the largest city. Of course, OKC has exploded in the last 25 years and since the mid 1990s acts like other major cities, but there is no denying that Tulsa is a hidden gem (bigger isn't always better) and Oklahoma is lucky to have two cities. I ahve to mention, your skyline images of OKC are about 10+ years old.

As a resident of Tulsa myself, I learned probably the most I've ever learned about the city. Also it was entertaining to try to figure out how many of the buildings showcased in the video I had been in. Turns out, I have a lot of exploring to do. Edit: a thing I think is worth noting that the video did not point out is that we are sort of in a protective bubble where tornadoes dodge us despite being in the most tornado-dense area of the world, due to some hills and geography and stuff. Really odd but relieving coincidence.

I think there was a massacre there in 1921 were hundreds of African Americans were murdered. And the town was burnt down. The park admittedly does look nice, but the rest of the city looks too much like a typical city of the American West. It's like aliens took a single photo of New York or Chicago and tried to reverse-engineer a smaller version of the ideal American city, but completely missed all the on-the-ground details that make those cities special. So you have a few highrise buildings, but still with wide streets, no subway or even light rail, and no real walkable neighbourhoods beyond a few recently built high-end shopping districts.

Absolutely!!! Jenks has the best schools, IMO, and that's where my kids graduated. Tulsa Public Schools are horrible and getting worse, if that's possible. The Tulsa Mayor, G.T. Bynum has only one focus and that's Greenwood/BLM restitutions. Our roads are falling apart daily and the police department is grossly understaffed. Broken Arrow is a great community, as is Glenpool, Sand Springs and Owasso. All have excellent school systems. Beggars on the street corners everywhere in Tulsa, which Tulsa deemed legal "with a reflective vest". Homelessness and mental health care are nonexistent. Tulsa USED to be a fantastic place to live. The past 5 years have proven it to be just another inner city, high crime area with no accountability...... and it's boring.
