I have a 2007 Tundra with a 5.7, I put electric motors on each wheel and a big solar panel for a box cover, then I put a windmill on the roof and now I get 25 M.P.G.-it's totally SIK.-Al GORE showed me this set up !!!!
It all depends on how you drive, intake or not. I’ve had two tundras, a 2012 and 2018. I have made it as high as 20.5mpg with no modifications. If you take it easy on the accelerator your mileage increases. If you drive with the pedal to the floor and are doing 75, don’t expect good mileage. My average when I am not towing is about 18mpg.
If my memory serves me, that 2WD truck bone stock had a 19 MPH HWY / 15 MPG CITY and a combined MPG of 16. 20. Something mpg... That's a pretty good increase!!!
Just got a new 2017 model. First interstate trip I locked cruise on 65 mph and got 20.3. Return trip locked it on 70 and got 19. Was strictly the interstate miles. I reset the computer at the on ramps. Pleasantly surprised. Not bad for and engine not yet broken in.
Sorry for not responding to this video. I did not realize there were so many comments. I use premium fuel. Mostly ethanol free if I can. I repurchased the Bridgestone Dueller Tires. My Volant Intake now with 70K miles still looks like new. Best mileage I have got running 45-60 mph was right at 23mpg driving to Norfolk,VA. I was happy on my recent trip to Gatlinburg, TN. I got 18.6 going there up the mountains on the interstate & 19.6 on the way back. Gotta love that. Running 75-80 most of the trip. I have a Crew Cab 2WD. I hope that answered some questions. I believe my success comes from the cold air intake, bed cover & fuel type.
Shell gas is the reason for good milage on a Tundra. I made a trip to S. C. and got 23 mpg, I though it was all the time but once back to Fl , I got usually 20. Big difference in gas. I used Citgo in Fl . 87 oct on both gases.
I went to SC from Fl and got 23.2. No cold air kit but durl exhust and a K&N reg air filter. I still think its the K&N that done the trick and also not be heavy on the foot. That was going about 70 to 75 mph.
best exhaust for a tundra is a custom exhaust plain and simple. Headers (Longtube recommended), larger y pipe with high flow cats, straight pipe after that (3-3.5in).
It has been years since posting this video. I can not believe I put regular 87 in there. A tip I just learned is you can clean your mass air flow sensor. I gotta give that a shot. I just found a video of a mechanic demonstrating how to do it.
I have a 2012 with the 4.6 I get average 17.7 on light city.going easy on the highway I can get 23.but it's keeping under 70.over 70 its lunch time.back around 21.driving habbits make huge differences
Today made a 3 hour trip from Sacramento down to Fresno and got 23.4 mpg highway. 2019 Tundra SR5, 5.17 engine, no bed cover, 2wd. Just kept it about 65 mph not using cruise control. Tires are Les Schwab Back Country All Terrains 275 70r18s.
I'm confuse what did this guy actually do? I have a 2013 Toyota tundra 4 x 4 and get about 13 to 14 after putting BG 44K and proper tire pressure I also have an S/B intake..
actually, the engineers are in contract, to build the engines the way the company wants, not efficient because they are in company with the oil companies... its all about how much they can sell you, because in the past, they made carburettors on engines that got 100 miles to the gallon and more
@@bbruce995 we all heard that story before. If it where true someone would’ve replicated it and we would have video footage and evidence, I can assure you
Its because of the cover on BED. I did it to and got 23.2 on a trip to S,C, on a 2014 Tundra 5.7 engine. Don't trust the truck mpg. Use a Cal and get the correct mpg. But it is becarse of the Tonneu comerl. I changed to a topper and got 20. 5 or something like that. Did it twice . I now have a 2018 and get 19 by truck gage.
Proves a Tundra 5.7 with clean air filter can do better than advertised. Some just don't believe it. I have gotten 23.4 doing the same on a trip using speed control and using good gas.Shell on my tundra works best by at least 2mpg. Anyone don't believe me, let me know.
Thats a myth all gas is the same just different additives... but at the end you are still spending more on “better fuel” than what you couldve added extra onto your truck at cheaper gas station.
I have 2012 5.7L 4WD Crewmax with factory setting for air pressure, clean air filter and mass flow sensor, new plugs, run 87 octane. I don't race around. I get 13.1 MPG. I don't understand the variation on all these reports.
Damn I gotta 2008 Tundra 4x4 SR5 4.7 that gets 12.8 mpg. Looking into the k&n 63 and 77 for better mpg, noise, and performance but i can't decide which to go with.
I bought a 2008 Limited 5.7 I enjoy driving a lot Great truck i get 16 mpg But really who Worry about Mpg? You don't get a truck To save gas lol . There are a lot of Hybrid Hondas And Toyota Prius out there
Trd supercharged 37 inch tires. She probably gets 18.5 mpg towing my 4,000 lbs+ boat to the lake. But i have to use 91 octane. If it was 89 you could say itd be like 17 mpg money wise. I honestly dont know else how to test it cuz thats all i use her for. The supercharger added incredible torque and speed. I towed 10,000 pounds up over 11,000 ft like it wasnt there before i put the big tires on. Im not sure how it would be now though. Same 4.30 gearing
Must be a 2 wheel drive! I have a 2008 4x4 crewmax I bought new. I have 213,000 on it. Best I've ever gotten is 19 on highway. Prob down wind. I average 16mph.
my 2007 bone stock 5.7 2wd double cab got 20 mpg. My 2010 5.7 4wd crewmax with lift and 34" tires gets 14mpg. I'm pretty sure his was all interstate miles also
I have a 2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7L 4wd and I've pulled 25 MPG out of a tank before. The VVT-i can get amazing MPG's if you keep it slow. 55 MPH (or even 50 if you can handle it) 20 MPG is quite easy with these truck…even at 200K miles and counting.
I was driving to ND from MN and tested several types of gasoline brand. Of all out there, I swear I thought the Shell vPower gives a totally smooth, powerful, purring drive. I realized you are using Shell in this video. Is that your preferred brand to get that 20mpg?? Mine 07, 5.7L getting 15.8MPG...now that's on the hihway for 6 hours.
Notice below. I also used a K&N filter on the truck. I think that is a big deal for easy flow air and no cold air system. I don't believe in Cold Air Systems. More noise than anything else.
The factory already installed a cold air system for us! Air comes right from the fender, not inside the engine (cold air)! I have the cover and the exhaust and still only get 14 average.
Notice he has a tonno , spelling , on his truck. Big deal with that. He also uses Shell gas. I got 23.5 on a trip to S Carolina and 22.4 on the way back to Fl. Also the same setup as he has. It has to be the cover and the brand of gas he used as it was the same brand I used on the trip.
Ok, whatever-2 wheel drive??, I run premium fuel always with all oils being synthetic-motor and axles. I have 35 inch mudders with a lift and big push bar. I get 11.2 average, I do drive 80 m.p.h. down interstate with the AC cranked. You must be a much better driver than I am.-Still LOVE the truck, I didn't buy it to get 20+ mpg, I drive my Honda Crosstour when I'm trying to get good mileage.
Ian Brasseur like I give a shit about a trade in. I run mid 13’s at over 100mph with simple bolt ons a mile above sea level, get better mileage weighs less, tow more, coil spring rear suspension rides and off roads better, and also better aftermarket. The ram is absolutely better at everything except resale but I’m not selling mine because I’m enjoying it too much. Enjoy your slow, thirsty, cheap interior and resale value in your tundra the worst rated truck in every test.
Wildcat Cowboy the 5.9 Cummins and 7.3 powerstroke are super reliable too. Doesn’t mean they can compete with 6.7’s and the 6.6 modern diesel stock vs stock.
I had the Tonnonue , spelling, cover on my 14 model and got 23.3 mpg on 87 oct. With the cap, looks like a SUV now but got 21 per gal. The flat cap was the best gas milage one. You must drive like I do a little. I would use the just cover but like a Cap instead. I am wondering what would happen with 89 oct? Think I am going to try it. I know 93 wont work , over kill..
average 12.9 no more then that Witch is fine with me Remember it is 5.7l I have all so F 150 2014 and max I do on engine 5.4 is 14.3 My tundra is 2007 technology so
I totally agree! I fell for the "Build Tough" advertisement by Ford. All I can say is build tough my ass. It's about time I stop supporting the big three and get a Tundra.
You did not fill the tank all the way. The gasoline foams and shuts off the nozzle. You need to let the foam settle, then fill slowly until the nozzle clicks off. Gas station pumps are made for safety and to collect fumes. Not for accurate mileage tests.
Stay outta the gas and keep near or just above the speed limits. My '08 stock 2wd DC gets similar to this video on trips with mostly 2 and 4 lane highway and passing through some towns here and there along the way.
If he did it this way the first time then how's it cheating? My parents have a 2008 Sequoia, 5.7 of course, 4wd, and loaded down with luggage, groceries, traveling, and they saw 18.6 and that's with the AC on and temps in the 80's. The Sequoia is just a bit heavier than the Crew Max Tundra. Plus, his average was showing over 20 on his display.
If you're talking about a Eco-Boost, than there is nothing to it. The Eco-Boost is a hell of a engine. The reliability of those engines are low though. You have a bunch of technology that can go wrong. The Tundra is just like 90% of the other Japanese cars, reliable. If you have the coyote 5.0 then thats impressive, but the tundra has more power, more torque and can haul more.
Im not talking about Eco-Boost on my old F150. I have a V6 flex ful. I haul 6000lbs flooring from Ontario CA to Victorvill CA on 15fway go up to 5000 +feet. Way more easy then the Tundra whit same amount of flooring in the back truck bed. Now I have a new F150 with Eco-Boost V6. I love it. Also is about 20+mpg with 5000~6000lbs in the bed. Tundra V 8 is about 14+mpg with nothing in the bed.
We had a 1997 Ford F-150 with a Triton 5.4. Hauling wise it could not keep up with the Tundra. The tundra is made for hauling with the 5.7 engine and 4.30 gears in the rear diff (largest gear ratio in a pickup truck) . Everyone is entitled to their opinion but for me I would never own a Ford again.
