Yeah, I worked at a Hobby shop years ago before all the really good Gyros, the number of Aircraft (especially Helicopters) that crashed without leaving the ground was greater than those that fell out of the sky 🙄
YES! Its getting to be about that time of year again. It's been YEARS since I've been in the RC scene. Making me want to buy one of these, and get back into it. Thanks for the video!
This took me back to Slot Car Drag Races and building the chassis from hard wire, also cars with the rocket powered using the engines from the Este's rockets
I worked at a Hobby shop & we used to make Rocket cars out of the broken DieCast Models, after a close call free driving we'd take them to the local Netball Courts & run Wire between the Goal Posts as a guide like a RocketSled, it was awesome when they hit the pole 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This brings me WAY back in time! Thank you so much! True, RC cars have changed quite a bit through time. But, You should lower it down with in shock spacers so air will not make it fly at over 80mph. That was an issue we were having, when chasing speed, and how we got around it. Also, get as tall a pinion as you can, the smoother the acceleration, the less likely it you'll crash it. you're also on the right track using the smallest battery you can, with the highest voltage you can (more S is better, but less footprint). Same for foam tires: rubber, as you've shown, won't hold. Have fun reaching 100mph, now!
He is a tech reviewer. RC is tech. The RC car was customized with the go pro. There was a computer shown and computer parts in the back ground. Well rounded video.👍
Like the change up! I love tinkering with stuff too! Once you start messing with mini quads (drones) it's hard to stop! My son is finally getting old enough to enjoy it as well so it makes it that much better.
WLtoys are awesome. I'm just starting out with RC's and they are fun to drive and quite affordable. It's nice to watch a video that explains all the technical details of modifying the car to up the speed. Great video man... 👍
G'day Brian, That was so cool, those Rubber Road Tires on the blue Rims were 'Tearable' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 WOW! all my RC stuff is older Fun Tamiya Cars & Trucks with High Detail Bodies, but I also have some TRF Racing Chassis, I have never played with Li-Po Batteries, Brushless Motors & Controllers, the most advanced I got was having a Speed Controller that came with a handheld unit so you could adjust the Settings like mapping the Power Curve, really handy for Front Wheel Drive Racing. I gave up racing as it was just getting frustrating that people were constantly complaining I was cheating because with my FWD I was able to compete with their 4WD Touring Cars, apparently a 4WD must be twice as fast as a 2WD with the same engine, I can't beat you so I will do everything I can to get rid of you.
This is really cool and a great change of pace I totally stopped watching pc builds and reviews since you can buy the hardware. Love to see where this goes! You should do some rc planes that's a big rabbit hole. Well it was for me.
I tried the whole FPV drone thing for a little bit. It ended up involving a whole lot of crashing and breaking stuff. It was a LOT of fun, but I ended up giving it up because it was starting to cost way too much too constantly replace parts. This was even with just little 2S and 3S kwads. Then there was all the tuning that went into it also. I've been looking at cars and have just been skeptical of how good they might be. Now that I've seen this, I could see doing exactly what you did here. Great video!
Dude! Going from one very expensive hobby to another? Seriously though, that was CRAZY! Both tires blowing out at the same time! Glad you got it recorded! Send it to mfg to see about replacements or at least to aid in their QC process!
I have a Losi XX, my dad has a kindwald edition that was stolen from him. If you still have any XXT parts or anything sitting about they sell for good prices. Local RC shop had some graphite arms for a XX that he bought for a great price but sold for much more!
Changing the spur and pinion gears will give you alot of gains with the setup you already have. I would go with that route before any new electronics or even batteries.
I'm doing the same thing.. it is fun.. my tires have came off as well.. I've got the 3.5 turn motor.. I've been having alot or steering issues.. from wrong servo and Jimmy rigging it so I could run.. that ended in disaster. Now I have a new car and new steering issues. I'm going to tighten up my servo saver and try again today... I don't have a GoPro. Or a spotter. But I'll try to document my run somehow... Anywho. Cheers brother..
I love RC car stuff. The last time I had one was a 1/10th scale Losi XXX-4 that I pre-ordered. Built and ran it on release day. Awww man that was so awesome. Ran that thing on the weekends at my local indoor off-road track. Obviously that was years ago, and that track shut down long before the pandemic. I really miss that. Now I might have to get back into it and if I do, my wallet is going to hate you. lol
Been following your pc mods for a couple yrs now love your work and also decided to get into rc haha Tinkering is in the blood these poor rc guys don't stand a chance xD
Glad someone else is getting into RC scene thats also in the PC business lol. I currently have a rustler 4x4 that im putting a Hobbywing Max 8 + 2650kv motor in and gonna run 3s (might try a smidge of 6s cause why not) and see this thing *haul* some serious booty.
You should look into seeing if there's something like a small airstrip or similar you can use for better being able to really open up on the throttle. I do some light hobby drone flying and I'm lucky enough to have a decommissioned airport near me that they let people do stuff like this on.
The gearing was stock but I replaced the spur with a metal version of the same gear. I wasn't confident that the plastic one would hold up although it may have.
I love this hobby man!! I had alot of giggles from the same experiences my first time giving it a shot😂 it was kinda intense i started with the rustler vxl with a 3s lipo😂😭
I saw the car in one of your other videos and was curious. I used to be really into racing 1/8th scale nitro cars. Save yourself a bunch of time and just put the bigger battery in there. More power is the best way to add speed. Most brushless motors are all relatively overpowered and the primary difference if whether they make more torque or rpm so gearing can overcome most any difference.
Probably ~$400 total. The ESC alone was as much as the entire car kit and if this is something you wanted to do, you can probably do it cheaper. All links in description.
@@BPSCustoms true still have that car (lcg rustler) and still take it out but with the stock gears now. Still can get up to 65mph with a fresh 3s battery. But because of no place really safe I stopped doing speed runs.
