Just a heads up. A journal bearing turbo will have shaft play till the oil is pressurized by the oil pump causing a film of oil that the shaft rides on which is how they can spin over 30,000 rpms

doing my homework on putting a turbo on my 98. only looking for 8-10psi max. you ran a stock cam before swapping to the voodoo without issue? going to be building the spare motor I have so the parts list you listed in this video was extremely helpful
It's not a voodoo cam actually, it's from lunati but when I called them, they said the voodoo wouldn't be good for a turbo application so they custom cut one for us that would be a lot better for a turbo, and yes we ran a stock cam with 0 issues
My bad misunderstood the cam part. But makes me more hopeful on the stock parts. It's the family beater so ebay parts are a plus and being able to bypass having to do a new computer setup is good to hear. And did your turbo come with an internal waste gate that you deleted to do an external?
Trying to instal fuel pressure regulator on my 98 wrangler but there's no return gas tank line besides the the one going to the rail !!! Supercharger is here next week and split second enricher how do I connect the damn fuel pressure regulator.!!? Thanks guys Im a new subscriber 👊
Hi, I have 95 xj 4 door 4.0....99+ intake 24lb injectors fpr@55lbs. Hks fcd wired into map. My turbo is a little bigger than yours.... Also 3 check valves t off map sensor. Soon as it sees boost it hits cut. My plugs are gaped .032 any help would be great...505 map bypass?? Thanks. A So tomorrow going to install a fuel pump from a 5.3L ls.
@@xjbeater8638 what's the wiring like? The stock map has 3 wires, POS, neg, and the 3rd wire is the "data" that sends map to the ECU. I'm assuming the FCD intercepts that signal wire. I'm also gonna guess it's 4 wires, one power one ground, one signal in from the MAP and one signal out to the stock ECU. I'm sure you got the +/- on the FCD wired right, otherwise all you can really do is reverse the signal wires. You might be putting map signal into the FCD where it's supposed to be coming out. I'd try reversing those two

@@xjbeater8638 no prob, start simple and get more complicated.. double check your grounds and check for continuity at the FCD. From POS to neg and from the input to the output. That should verify nothing's burnt up in the FCD.
Hey how come u guy don't run a piggy on computer like an Apex AFC. It would fix all ur fuel problem. Wouldnt need any of the pressure tricks an map cut outs. It just raises an lowers the injector band width by rpm an map inputs.
can you send me the full list of what you used for it to work great? I have throw an t3/t4 turbo (8psi) on my old 4.0l tj with a ignition distributor (with a checkvalve before the map) = after 1 day the pin between connecting rod and piston have broke soooo I have a great hole in my block, next step I gonna swap another 4.0l but with a coils pack to do another try, any good advice will be appreciated :)
When checking turbo shaft play. Having a little shaft play left and right is normal. It’s necessary for oil to get around the bearing. Shaft play in and out is the bad kind. Just want to educate the masses for a well misunderstood topic.

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee 4.0L I have added the Bosch 12 hole 24lb fuel injectors and the bypass valve from 505 and a high flow fuel pump,and a fuel regulator but when i drive down the road and the turbo starts to spool the boost Guage reads about 1psi and then it just stop it wont build no more boost any help would be great and P.S. I have bout the Kessv2 5.017 but have not used it yet and again. thank you
Thinking of boosting my 1997 Cherokee only want like 8 to 10 psi. So all I need is injectors a regulator and a map sensor check valve and of course the turbo and it will run fine?
You also need a larger fuel pump(in tank) or an inline fuel pump with the stock fuel pump to allow for the extra fuel, it worked very well for us but I can't guarantee success this is just our personal experience
Hey great vid. I’m debating turboing my xj, the main factor is whether or not I’ll get the top end I’m looking for when towing. As of now I don’t have enough power to keep it in top gear with my trailer so I’m screaming 3,000 rpm to stay up.
Where exactly do the type RS lines run too, all to fuel pressure regulator? And the waste gate? How is that set up? Have you moved it up yet? That looks like a pain for the oil filter now!
Hey i have a 1993 Cherokee and have a 6.0 Garrett turbo i want to put on with spending as little money on parts as possible, how would tou go about rigging up the oil system
The bypass is from 505 basically it's a one way valve that only let's the map sensor see vacuum not boost. You can also use a brake booster valve. Another issue can be that you don't have enough fuel pressure especially if you don't have a boost fuel pressure regulator and a larger fuel pump
@@Grewsum2Sum no problems with boost pressure going into the booster? And did you run a vent on both of the breathers on the valve cover I’ve herd that the pcv needs vacuum to work properly
@@Grewsum2Sum and not to keep bugging y’all or anything but what’s the clear line coming from the back of the valve cover it looks like it goes to the manifold but I may be wrong just asking all of this cause I am fixing to boost mine at 5psi and want it to be reliable
how did you guys tune it? or did you not. im most worried about putting all that work into my 4.0 just to blow a hole in the piston. looking at using HP tuners. keepig stock cam tho
@@Grewsum2Sum noted, hopefully that takes the head gasket failure out of the equation so hopefully I dont find anything nasty that would cause a problem with boost when I open it. I got 206k miles and other than leaks and a little lifter tick I'm not worried about it lasting me 100k longer. But I've never had it open past the oil pan or valve cover.

For the feed, we split off the oil pressure sending unit port, we threaded a fitting in the port that has 2 spots one for the stock sending unit one oil feed to turbo
