With a built engine for boost and having a turbo kit properly installed you could easily double the stock horsepower and torque Were as slapping a turbo kit on a stock engine you can't throw much boost at it there for the small gains in power.. Like an ls3 engine in a Chevy comes with 460 horse roughly and makes over 1000hp with a boosted engine barely any modifications needed in this setup A smaller foreign 6 or 4 cylinder that only makes 140-260 hp can still make 500 horse after spending the change on building the engine internals to handle 15-20 psi without blowing and then would be a pretty bad ass ride in my opinion. Of coarse it will always Be nicer if it was a bigger engine with stronger internals to start though.

The 6G72 is actually really bad at holding boost with stock internals. They tend to undergo catastrophic failure and are often avoided when boosting these cars. Trying to gain more than 50hp on these engines without properly building them for it is asking for an expensive lesson. I mostly see people swapping in either the next gen 6G74 or the previous gen 4G63 which is what the EVO also ran and then putting a turbo on those.

My long term goal for my 03 gs, might de-stroke the stock motor with a forged evo 8-9 crank and build the block, do the dohc swap and make around 500 on kill mode. Ideally by next summer I’ll have the block and everything else ready to bolt in

I have an 03 rt, I want to turbo mine as well, was planning 6g72tt awd with getrag manual trans and ECU swap, but thinking about turboing a regular 6g72 sohc manual that I already have modified and trans modded and swapped already in the car, spun a bearing and trying to decide whether to rebuild and turbo with different internals

Was very frustrated about that and without my knowledge they just ordered a new bumper and rid the rt bumper I wanted installed. I told them I wasn't paying them for the bumper when I had provided a really good condition bumper that I just say laying in the dumpster pipe when I arrived. Long story short. I didn't pay for the repair once I spoken to the manager and showed them its the same car just a more sporty bumper.

You are absolutely but the motor is built with lower compression pistons.

Just run a larger turbo with boost coming in full boost at a higher rpm to save your rods.

Essentially turbocharging it from stock would be able to push about 300-400hp depending on tune.. But all you really gotta do is buy some forged pistons from 3SX which the block is the same as the 3000GT so it can use those parts internally for the bottom end only, and you're pretty much set for about 800hp on the bottom end and about 500 on the stock top end SOHC head.. It's definitely worth it tho as the only thing that holds you back is the cast pistons tbh because the engine is forged from factory already! Most are just too lazy to build one to find that out usually

It basically is a 3000GT, but with a stock Evo 8 reflashable ECU and a 3000GT block with SOHC heads. No need to buy a GSX, especially with a 5 speed Manual that's FAR weaker than these 5 speeds are, which are basically bulletproof. So making one of these fast is much easier and can be just as fast with the 3.0L or 3.5L swap or even a 3.8L MIVEC swap that's able to do 300whp without turbocharging whatsoever.
