I can watch Quinn build engines all day long! His enthusiasm, combined with the informative way of talking us through the build, love it! Next up... something European? Like a BMW straight six? Or a supercharged Jaguar V8?
Don’t forget to change the knock sensor they are brittle and will crack from just looking at them. As well as the starter they tend to grind on the fly wheel after just a couple years old. And the O-ring for the top sprocket for the timming chain. But also, you forgot the top O-ring for the vtec solenoid common leak area, you’ll most likely have to get it aftermarket from Kraken.
I think any popular tuner engine - LSx, EJ, Rotary, S54, EA888 - the list can go on and on! The rotary would make sense if you continue on your modernized F&F car series with the RX7? 😁😁
Definitely should have had those rods machined since you're using a different fasteners. Sure you can get away without it, but it's not technically correct. Also im really surprised you didnt open the ring gap up. The oe gap was set for a 200hp engine, this will likely run over double the factory power level. I dont understand why you wouldn't have opened them while apart 🤷
Facts. I would have replaced the rods AND pistons. Full head machine work and block. This is just basically an OEM rebuild with ARP hardware. Might hold the power, but for how long? I think THROTTLE has a set budget for these builds and doesn't want to go over that. If it was their car to keep, I think they would go all out.
Factory unopened engines run fine even at 600hp for years. Been done a bunch of times. I'm sure it will be fine, plus if the kit ever comes off because the new owner wants to go back to NA the ring gap won't be too large.
The Mad Scientist! These are by far my favorite videos on this channel. I’d love to see a rotary or LS build like some have said but top of my list would be a Porsche flat six or even a 944 build. They scream like nothing else and the engineering is incredible. Would be something new and cool for the channel too.
Great video! Quinn killing it again on another engine build. He has a great knowledge on all the engine parts and explains everything he is doing! Keep up the good work guys😁! Hope to see you all on June 3rd !
Been watching you guys for some time now, I’ve learned more about cars than I have from anything and anyone, thanks allot for the videos, one day I’ll have a car to modify as well.
Nice video! Well done. Some thoughts: Wondering why you didn't plastiguage main bearings? Also, would it be good idea to hand polish crank journals? With rpm these see I wondered if that would help. Billman has said stock Honda bolts actually provide higher clamping force than arp studs on this engine. Interested to hear your thoughts. How much was taken off head (and deck)? I understand that can cause chain geometry issues with this engine. Thoughts on Billman tct vs stock one you used? Couldn't help noticing you're holding oil jug upside down! The spout is offset to prevent glugging, when spout is on top. They made that improvement for us, kinda shame if we don't take advantage. A silly thing I know, but Kaisen, constant improvement of the craft. It looks like you also did a valve cover baffle? Seems like a smart idea to go along with oil pan baffle for track. But I don't think was mentioned in vid. Which baffle kit was used?
@28:48 The VG30DETT, love the throttle team but all skill no balls... JK!! love you guys! but for real, stop following the crowd of cowards and build a BAD ASS VG30DETT. youll be glad you did once you drive it! do some research the f'ing motor and car won Lemans every single fin year 90-96 that is was a 6 cylinder class, it wasnt until they allowed V8's to compete AND the z32 stopped selling in the us that they actually lost. that car/ motor has history and heritage, but since it wasnt featured in fast and furious and its been highly neglected for service for over 30 years of ownership. everyone dogs them, just because they are tight to work on. they are gods motor too...
A rotary would be amazing but I just don't think there are enough people out there using them. Oh man...build a killer 3-rotor...But aside from that I'd say a good ole fashioned LS for the swap crowd. Like some giant N/A monster.
Mega job! You mentioned the head was skimmed prior re-installing it. Some say that any material removed from the head is enough to upset the TCT geometry. Were you aware of this? If so, did you compensate with a thicker head gasket? Cheers
First time I've ever heard someone doing rings only on f20/22. I always wondered about that. The common standard out there is either get a ised engine with lower miles. Because built f20/22 always fail after 20 k miles
I'm not seeing how, logistically, you're going to get an intake pipe on that turbo without relocating the oil filter. Also, I would put a heat blanket AND a heat shield behind that turbo. Having a spinnyboy that close to everything is... not ideal.
i got a suggestion for a full build, and i think there isnt many out there... i really like the new Abarth 124 spider how about that with some widebody spoiler and a huge turbo or just natural aspirated to run like 11k rpm. Would be even fun put it against the s2000 in the end.
Heck, just rebuild any engines in the inventory which u haven't touched. Watching ur rebuilds are damn satisfying. I'd send my engine had I'm not on the other side of the world.
You guys should build my motor next. It’s an rb30det/25 I’ve been buying everything I need to have it built but the shop I wanted to use said he won’t install parts he didn’t supply so I’m kinda stuck
Quinn gotta do a 3SGTE motor. The numbers I've heard these things out out seem mythical. Put one-to-one the test parts and accessories must be so cheap it's not very new. Thing it's slept on. Pleeeaseeee
