Lmao or there me whos the opposite and spent all my money on my engine rebuild when they did my headgaskets and i figured fuck it why not the engines already out no better time than now lol... 3k later they tell me my car wont make boost and I need a new up pipe and turbo so my broke ass hit amazon.com and got both for like 400 with shipping haha
Not all turbo make suuuuututututu. My car most likely make rrrrrrrr*pop*rrrrstststsuuuuu. Weird. You can check my video for leak sound way different than you thought.😅
Straight fire. Been watching these guys a while now. They always give plugs to the other great channels, many of whom they seem to be buddies with, but they’ve taken over my history log. A couple BMW bloggers, too, but damn. F.I. every other day.
@@icouldntthinkofagoodname7216 I just really dont think anyone was wanting a vs series like what donut does. seems like they didnt have too many more ideas for a permanent series that could fit into that 7th day for uploading all week. it really needs to be reworked
turbocharged go "oooooopffff" (sound good when you change gear), where as supercharged go "uuuuuuuuuu" (whiny sound). That's all you have to know pretty much.
@@corgi5542 All turbo make different sound tho. You can check my video how my turbo car sound like. Some many different car out there make different sound.
I went with a Whipple stage 2 for my 2019 GT. Upgraded the fuel line, injectors, and went with long tube headers. Running at 720 HP to the wheels amd 550 Lbs of torque. I love this car for a daily. And I'm still getting 16.5 MPG
Similar to my 93 SC Tbird, you're getting more hp (with more displacement, valves, and screw vs roots). I get 350 hp and 400 lbs-ft 17mpg city at 17PSI. Reliability hit is from first Gen DIS not the blower.
@@enclavevideo You sure about that bud? The Crosstrek is based on the Impreza 5-door, while the Outback is based on the Legacy wagon. Two different base wagon; two different "off-road" wagons.
When it comes to actual shifting, motorcycles are easier. When it comes to going fast...corner speed on a bike requires skill, balls, decent tires, and a properly set up suspension.
My supercharged BRZ is a great daily driver and has plenty of power for the track! I put a Edelbrock E-Force SC in my car in the first month I owed it in 2016 and had a custom tune done by DD Performance Research in Houston. I didn't want a turbo kit because of the lag and heat problems, tune problems that never seem to get fixed for daily driving. The fact is almost everyone I know that maxed out their power by turbo has blown engines. Few with SC do in my experience. The SC is just more DRIVABLE over the lifetime of the car than a turbocharged car.
@@kxngshadow5497 on 93 octane I get 284 but that's OK as those engines tend to have rod problems when pushed over 300. The stock wheel HP is 154. Since the car is light and nimble and the power response is instant it's a joy to drive and is quite competitive on the track because it does the turns better than the HP monsters. Now that doesn't sound like a lot of HP compared to those guys that have 600 but my weight/HP ratio is quite good and more than this starts effecting drivability. I could go E85 and pick up a lot (and I have a tune for it) but then I'd be over 300 HP and I want the car to last. The gas mileage only took a 1 MPG hit for 'regular' driving... except I'm heavy footed all the time and it's so fun to launch from any stop. From September 2016 when I bought the car new I've gone through 9 (yes, NINE) sets of street performance tires and that doesn't include track because besides liking to accelerate any time I can I am aggressive on corners. Track tires, I don't remember off hsnd as a set is only good for two track days and I've done a lot of them!!!) Of course I don't have stock alignment, I quickly modded the suspension to have more negative camber for better grip in corners. I can put a cooler, jack, 5 gal gas can and four wheels in the car and hit the road to the track after driving it daily all week, what's not to like.
Turbos are a little harder to install because of drilling into the oil pan for the oil line and other things like that, where a supercharger you might just need a new intake manifold, or a bracket for putting it on the front if it's like a pro charger type deal but most companies include the bracket.
I didn’t see him doing it too much. For some it’s a habit. For some I know they keep spitting or whatever “simple/basic/normal” things that others find offensive or weird. Some rub their chins, etc. Just a habit tbh
Ayyy *B5 S4 AVANT* Good God I loved that car. Tuned, Porsche wheels, manual conversion 😋 When it _was_ running I never lost a single race OMG it felt soooo goood 🤤😍
Love the energy and quirkiness in the "so you want" series so thought I'd check this one out as well. I wasn't disappointed....dare I even say, I may have learned a thing or two 🤔
I like turbo chargers, I have a small turbo, which still gives me low end torque. Additionally with a manual, you can truly appreciate the power, even with a larger turbo.
I think he’s just making it up lol. The airmatic suspension has excellent support from aftermarket vendors like Arnott. He also never said what the electrical issues were either?
Yeah, he mentioned “electrical problems” but didn’t say exactly which ones. It’s obvious this guy just did a quick Google search and saw “electrical problems”.
Some E55 AMG’s pre 2004 did have electrical issues. I know because I owned one :P. Electrical issues; at least in the latter years stemmed from the high optioned seats that featured power draw, and the center infotainment also did it as well. Most people ended up disconnecting their seats until their draw issue was fixed with a new control module. - Alex Maybe I just had some rough luck though!
@@FitmentIndustries I think it's a case of getting what you pay for, if you buy a $7000 E55 AMG you're most likely going to have a lot more issues than paying for a $14,000 E55 AMG that's been sorted and taken care of properly. I remember buying my V70R a few years ago and people were telling me it was one of the most unreliable cars to come from Volvo and driving it a problem free 25,000 miles before I sold it for more than I paid for it 3 years prior.
I have a b5 1.8t that pushes around 20psi on what I'm told is the stock turbo, supposedly it pushes 230 hp, not sure if I believe either of those lol The sound of the turbo is definitely one of the best things about owning one of these cars
Supercharger for daily. You dont drive your daily in top end a majority of the time. So that low end torque and power makes a huge difference in getting you through the whole band. Sounds dope as fuck too.
@@mercury0214 but why do you need boost when your idling? How does that make them better than a turbo. I do love superchargers and all, but everybody knows turbos are better. Theres a reason (nearly) every 1k+ hp car uses turbos and not superchargers
@@andrewd081452 I agree, turbo squeaks by the SC. All depends on someone's platform and goals even though Alex wouldn't say it lol my favorite part of the turbo system is the potential for high boost when tuned properly. SC's work off that pulley that limits any adjustability besides going with a smaller one. Pros and cons for both though
I like the linear power of a supercharger but I can’t stand that belt sound! Besides turbskies makes a lot more power if you want to! You can always match the power of a supercharger with a smaller turbocharger and get almost the same power and with more top end power.
My Audi TT MK2 tfsi manual has all 280nm from 1,600 rpms. It's great to have that torque even at higher gears and develop speed super quick by dropping a gear or 2 without lag or delay.
Neither. N/A is the best for overall reliability and less issues. That being said - both turbo's and SC can be daily driven. That S4 probably had issues after this, so many expensive problems. They look awesome though.....
Lol no it's not. A 350 hp turbo k20 is going to be running a lot easier than a 350 hp na k20. Nothing sounds better than a built na but in no way shape or form are they more reliable.
@@4touchdowns1game29 I wasn't talking about N/A's being modified. But yes, an engine with some sort of power aid is usually running easier than one without it.
ive got a ‘16 Focus ST and ‘06 R53 MCS. Both very different cars, definitely prefer the supercharger but the ST is a better daily. Not that it matters since i live a mile away from work.
Stage III when referring to B5 S4’s is a set of KO4 turbos

I’ll take my 2017 focus ST with 300-ish wheel horsepower. And I get to use the power all the time. Soon to be back out of the shop the 2010 GT with a single 76 mm turbo yeah.
Turbo all the way. Compound turbo kicks superchargers ass, HANDS DOWN. You get massive power with excellent kick down low (AND efficiency). It's more complex and expensive than a single, twin, or sequential turbo setup, but it kicks all the ass.
Man I hate it when people don't get all their facts right... the E55 doesn't have a heat exchanger problem it's the intercooler pump. It needs to be upgraded to the latest bosch intercooler pump 010. After that you shouldn't have any problems with heatsoak. Also you don't want to actually cook the supercharger with a smaller pulley it's better if you go with a bigger 180mm crank pulley stock super charger pulley... long tube headers x pipe, deleted cats and resonator and a tune will give you about 650 crank. Lastly never buy one older than 05 as you also have the trans cooler issue. Get an 05-06 get the recalls done and buy your parts on FCPeuro.com with a lifetime warranty. Now your set!
I also had a Stage 3 B5S4, the turbos coming on strong at 5500 RPM is realllllly late. Mine would kick on at 3500 and the car would hard throw you at 4k. Girl that owns this car, I would strongly recommend a custom tune from Motoza.
Fellow B5 owner here. Doesn't seem that Imola was a great example for comparison. A well tuned PJ k04 b5 is a hoot for daily hoonigans. An un-tuned "big turbo" b5 is just a ticking time bomb.
The Imola yellow is dope. My buddy at a Nogaro Blue over Nogaro RS4 suede seats it was Stage 3+ with RS6 hybrid turbos. We blew the KO4s on the way back from Waterfest... this was mid 2000s. Car was extremely unreliable. We never got to drive it in the snow bc it’s never been alive whenever winter hits.
I have a 2006 e350. Luckily all of the mechanical issues, including suspension have been fixed in this car however imma need to get that supercharger power on it!
I always say I like the way turbos sound more. But everytime I hear a supercharger whine, I have to rethink that thought. Supercharger whines are something beautiful
I feel like this doesn’t hit a huge bias say if you compared an evo to a camaro or something, that’s a much harder way of putting this into perspective
The fact nobody has a video for a e38 bmw is beyond me.. Cause im modifying it and its like.... Why cant i find anything on this car 😭😭 it's such a great car!!
I’d say a big problem with superchargers is that they tend to overheat much, after just a couple runs if the supercharger becomes hot so does the air and it slows the car. Also you have to do maintenance on them because they have supercharger oil. Not talking shit on superchargers
I actually currently own 2 supercharged vehicles, 07 Grand Prix and 01 Ford ⚡. Next car will be a Stinger GT1 or 2. So I'll have 2 superchargers and 2 turbos 😏
I’d have to say everytime he’d say turbos aren’t that common I respected him less and less turbos are everywhere, a lot of newer cars come stock with turbos when you get the “sport” package and such
Supercharger all day, b8.5 S4 is my dream car. I own a t5 Volvo and I still prefer that glorious supercharger whine to my sutututu 😂. Love the end of this video too, "get either, but not these ones" 😂😂
not sure why this guy says the airmatic is not supported anymore? or that the heatexchanger shuts off? You can buy new parts from merc and find aftermarket units for the Airmatic, also the Heatexchanger does not shut off, the water pump is most likely bad and the supercharger clutch disengages, a new water pump solves that and additional cooling more help even more
Great comparison. Turbos are fun, but if you’re grown up and still want to have a good time you go Supercharged(not centrifugal, cause they don’t count)
I feel like Twin Turbos are the best of both (beautiful) worlds. Slightly less lag than a big single Turbo, yet more outright power at the Dyno than a Supercharger (if you care about that kinda thing). Yes, they are more expensive, rarer, and more finicky to work on, but it's still worth considering for an appropriate, high budget build
BRUH, my first car I ever bought was a 2004 E500. I bought it used. Was a blast, until the airmatic suspension blew out, and then fixed that. Then the fuse box blew out. Fixed that. Then I sold it and bought a Nissan 300ZX. Never going back
Whats not to like about imola yellow or rather any yellow sports cars? They are just as good looking as the rosso corsa, the british racing greens and the championship white Cant go wrong with any of that
