To be honest, RetroArch is easy, but there is an odd stigma surrounding it, and I think it may be because of the amount of apparent options available right away, but I do nothing extra or special for these tutorials, what you see is what I did to get them working. Because there is no exe but instead internal files, a command line interface is required in order for RetroArch to know what it's doing. That's mostly what LaunchBox uses is command lines. They're powerful and low level. Another thing that doesn't help RetroArch, but I think they've made the right decision, is the conscious decision for the best quality rips of games. They want, and rightfully so I think, demand the best quality in most situations. A majority of the time, I see users complaining because it doesn't work, but it's usually due to BIOS or the game being poor or modified rips, which is not RetroArch's fault, but the fault of a community with no standards for the last 20 years of emulation. For accuracy and the best possible emulation a rip needs to be up to par. A rip of a game could work in one emulator, and not in RetroArch, and that's generally because the emulator cuts corners in order to achieve their goal. There are plenty of times where I praise and prefer the standalone emulators over RetroArch because they do it better or the same as their RA counterpart. There are instances where the RA counterpart is worse, but in most cases it's the exact same emulation, but RetroArch has superb controller handling, shaders, scalers and very advanced feature sets that can be applied to literally dozens and dozens of systems. Don't get me wrong, if someone doesn't like RetroArch, then they don't like RA and that is totally fine. However, I think a lot of blame is placed on them undeservingly because users don't necessarily know the difference. I've spend the better part of 16 years working and enjoying Emulation, so I know that I have a leg up on people and it's unfair for me to say their opinion is not valid just because they haven't spent as much time with something. That is why I wanted to do a tutorial series, I wanted to share my knowledge and show people that RA can be simple, once you know a few things you've got it, and that LaunchBox is the easiest Front End to do any emulation with, let alone RetroArch. I wish I could get a TurboGrafx 16 or CD for that cheap now. I just recently got a Saturn for $60, and that's a steal now!

The games or the BIOS are probably a bad rip, that's usually what that means.

***** Ok, I checked. It was a bad BIOS. But not all PC-FX games work. Most do, but I'd say 10-20% don't work. The main screen loads, game loads, but when it gets to the actual game, it's just sound with a black screen. I tried different game downloads, so not that problem.

OMG I'm a Moron! I imported the roms as PC grafx instead of NEC Turbografx-16. My fault!

Are you asking if these can be played on PCem? Then no, PCem is a Windows 95-98 era emulator. If you're asking if I can make a tutorial for it, then it's been on my list for several months, but I am waiting for it to mature a bit more before I make a tutorial for it.

That means you are using the wrong BIOS. It needs to be the proper and I believe latest revision of the BIOS. I believe you're using an older version, and the game is saying it can run on the system you are telling it it's being ran on, if that makes sense.

Retroarch is for people who use a lot of different emulators and don't want to manage dozens of folders to play games from different systems. It's actually quite good so I don't know why you are complaining. I've played 20 Turbografx-16 games through RetroArch's emulation and never had a single issue, so it sounds like you're just bad at configuration.

bobbydylanio you just don't understand how to configure it. Retroarch is by far the best all-around emulator (or collection of emulators).

Mines can't play em at all!!! I am getting sick of these problems too!!!!! It works most of the times but the few times that don't are a FUCKING PAIN!!!!

No, we did tt EXACTLY like the video and it doesn't work jack shit. For my Saturn, NES, etc..it works but for SOME REASON it won't work on PC engine or Dreamcast. I had to import a different emulator for DC but i NEED retroarc for PC engine becuase using mednafen itself is a pain. it leaves a jumbled mess on the CFG

I try not to use Retroarch for most my games either. Its a pain and very confusing. I use seperate emulators and I feel like I have more control over them cause I use a Xarcade Tankstick
