Wow ! Old Tyme and Celtic fiddle meet jazz. Moving bass lines while flat-picking, Leo Kotke-esque staccato, a little Rice and a bluesy bend to round it out. You never met a genre that you didn't like (though I didn't hear any Madonna influence... THANK YOU !!!), all rolled up into two masterpieces . Now I have to go back and see if there were any Wes Montgomery octave licks. THANK you, and thanks to RU-vid for linking this vid my way.
Andy, that was SO well done, I can't even put it into words. The musical ideas are so incredibly restless and always changing. I can hear your musical expressions/experience come through in all you are playing. Thanks so much!
Excellent music expertly played. Cross-picking, interesting harmony and counterpoint, clean, willing to take a rest all makes it super. thanks and good luck.
Hi Andy. Just to tell you that I became instanteously a big fan. So much definition, feeling and inspiration in what you play. I've just bought the tabs from your website. Pity I'm so far. I'll have taken course. Etienne from France
etienne844 so cool! Thank you for the kind words. I'll be coming to Italy next May to teach at Roberto Della Vecchia's camp. A little closer, though not France.
Amazing! That's probably the most creative solo guitar version I've heard of these songs. Nice sounding guitar too! I might spike your video hits trying to figure out some these guitar parts just FYI. Nicely done!
beautiful stuff man, and greetings from the Berklee College of Music in Boston! love your voice on these tunes, some of the most unique flatpicking I've heard to date.
Sweet, man, thanks. Berklee's a great school, I had some friends who went out there and learned a ton (to say the least!) Keep picking, hope to make it out to Boston sometime, heard it's a great city. P.S. don't forget to vote (shameless self-promotion).
Incredible! Still trying to figure out if its inspiring or making me want to throw out my own guitar... In any case- wonderful to hear! Truly masterful!
Hi--thank you! I really love chords, and keep at it, from high school and college up to now. I really like jazz and classical music, and the whole idea of dominant 7th chords resolving.
Hey Andy, are you wearing some custom earplugs? Or are those monitors? I've got some tinnitus, I also had hyperacusis in high school like you(you did mention this in your Winfield story right). I use earplugs for my electric band, but not for acoustic stuff.
hey Jordan, good eye. Those are custom earplugs. This is the loudest guitar on the planet, in a reflective room, and I wanted to play aggressively, so I wore ear plugs for this recording.
Jordan Riehm Hey Jordan, went to an ent and had an audiologist fit me. They pour a mold in your ear and send them off. I got all three sets of filters, 9 db, 15db, and 25. If I had to do it again, I'd just get the 15. Total was $250 with all filters. Well worth the money. It would have been $150 if I only got the 15's. I wish I got them 20 years ago, man. They sound good, and still allow you to make musical decisions. So much better than anything I could get from guitar center, and I tried them all. Peace, and good luck with them. The filter brand was Etymotics.
The guitar was made by Gary Bray, from East Peoria, IL. He taught me to build while we build it. It's the bomb! The top is just highly bearclawed sitka.
