In this video you'll learn why you should turn off VR or IS on your lens when using a tripod to get sharper pictures when doing long exposure. Many times people complain their long exposure pictures are not coming out very sharp and it could be due to the fact that your VR or IS is on. Inside your lens there is a mechanism that moves to counter the camera shake produced through our hands but if the camera is already on on a stable place or on a tripod then that movement in the lens makes your pictures very soft. So when ever your camera is on a stable place or on a tripod make sure to turn the VR or IS feature OFF.
Equipment used.
DSLR Nikon D600
Lens Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC
Lens Nikon 50mm f1.8 G to make the video

This is probably the single greatest advice I have gotten on photography, I did not know that this was the reason for soft photos. Thanks a bunch! Looking forward to see what my camera can do now :D

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with us via RU-vid! I have tried books, magazines, etc. and nothing compares to actually listening & seeing someone explain these things. Especially for extreme newbies like me! I've had my Canon for a year now and can honestly say I have not taken it off Auto mode, so thank you again! I look forward to more videos in the future! Cheri

Thanks for this. Started using a Canon DSLR and watching your clips about a year ago and have appreciated your whole line of photography videos. Have been a great help along the way for my new, late in life affliction.

Really nice tip, I tried this out and compared two photos of an inside of cathedral, the exposure was around 6-8 secs and with VR turned off the picture is miraculously clean compared to VR ON on tripod. Thanks a ton again!

Thank you again..I used a tripod on my last trip to take photos and you & another photographer suggested to use a tripod; which I did... but some of them were still cloudy..now I know why...I really appreciate that you take the time to share with others. I will take this lesson with me on my next trip out..again, thank you, always, vera

I'd recommend you to create playlists for different stuff like Tutorials, camera reviews. It makes it much easier to find things we are searching for instead of having to scroll thru a long video list on the channel. All and all great work with the videos, mate.

If you shoot video with your camera on a steadycam like a glidecam, would you recommend to turn the optical stabilization of the lens off too? Thanks a lot for your videos!

Hey I was just wondering if you could give me advice on buying a good Nikon DSLR, I have used the Nikon D3000 18-55 Vr kit for a good year now and It's not all that although I done some good photography with it. It's slow compared to other cameras frame speed I really want to get the D5200 but unsure? Or the D3200 or D7000! I want a camera that can deal with video/photography ..

Ermahgerd!!! just solved muh problem.. was getting lots of extra noise and reduced clarity, shooting a concert indoors at iso 400 f5.6 1/125 on a tripod with shutter release MUCH BETTER
@shobin05

great video thanks, too bad there is always a trade off for photography, i cant take a good, noise free photo without using a tripod/high iso and if i dont use tripod it ends up blurry. Really troublesome to carry a tripod in car events.

When handheld, following birds in flight (eagles), with VC (TAMRON 150-600mm) at 600mm .... i always get a few blurry images, even if my shutter speed is at at least 1600th/sec Would VC be the cause ? Thanks !

So if we doing the post production (on the picture which the VR is turn on), and we increase the clarity number (Lightroom), can we get the same output on the picture which the VR function is turn off?
