So we picked up this Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 the other day for pretty cheap, with the intent of going off roading again. The first time we had a 300tdi and I learnt my lesson of what DOESNT work off roading and whats the easiest way to get stuck LOL... so this time, we are not messing around! We will turn this Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 into an OFF-ROAD WEAPON! Welcome along to the journey.
So today we are getting rid of those all terrain tyres which are great for the road, but not ideal for going off road, and we start removing things off the car which are NOT going to help the car off road, and we crack through the list of tings which the car needs!

a neat trick I learnt is raising the tank higher than engine when filling. you'll need a helper, ask the missus to hold. once coolant comes out top bleed screw, screw back up, top up tank. drive it and top up if neccessary

I'd recommend getting a special 27.5mm socket as the lug nuts tend to swell a bit on the land rovers. Stuck it in the glovebox and never had any issues with it since especially when you need to change a wheel when out on the lanes

Decent motor mate great to see your getting the vids out on it already, also might be worth a try taking the 2 hoses off running into the heater matrix and putting hose down one end and flushing it through until clear water then swapping the hose over onto the other pipe and flushing it backwards. If that makes any sense haha done this on most vehicles when heating not getting warm 👍🏻 great video BTW.

Check the top coolant hose isn’t hard with pressure after a drive both my td5s had pressurised top hoses an no heaters when the headgasket blew, easy to change if it is though

With regards to heat: Is the coolant reservoir getting hot? Are the heater matrix pipes plumbed the right way? Is the whole radiator getting hot? Flow is important. Isit the correct pressure cap??

Just lift the header tank of the mounts hold it as high as possible and then quickly poor water in ,should get the air lock sorted ps take little pipe of if you can thay can be brittle and might not want to bend when you lift the tank

You can remove the coolant reservoir from its location and gravity feed the coolant too to help with bleeding

Get a vacuum filler Lee goes on a air compressor and bleeds it for you at the same time as filling the coolant

Your heater matrix radiator might be blocked full of crap. Take both pipes off from the engine side the flow and return and put your hose pipe on the flow and turn the hose on and flush the heater radiator. I’ve had to do a few times on older cars. 14:13

You'll do yourself an injury getting wheel nuts off like that. You need the breaker bar in the 10 o'clock position and push DOWN on it or even stand on it. To do them up, once they start getting tight, put the breaker bar at the 2 o'clock position and push down with your foot on it until it stops moving. Incidentally, I had that tread pattern on my Freelander 1 205/80/16 and the noise was horrendous. At 37 mph, the noise would get so bad it would resonate through the internal roll cage , the noise and subsequent vibration would make you feel physically sick within seconds !

Get a side exit exhaust on it, delete centre pipe too, turn fuel pump up and you basically have a free stage 2 hahaha

Easy to bleed turn the engine off undo the screw on the pipe unclip the expansion bottle lift it up until the water comes out

And adjust the steering lock stop bolts to stop tyres rubbing on chassis at full lock. You'll get more body roll without the anti roll bars. Also if you add lift spring rates should change and better to have progressive spring rates. If you lift the suspension, increase flexible brake hose length to prevent damaging the hoses at max articulation.

Don't think your right thinking driving with a missing wheel nut is legal and driving with 2 missing is not. 1 missing wheel nut is still a major mot fail so I'd imagine they police would also take a dim view if they noticed it.
