Here’s all the reasons you need to convince yourself to grow turnips. The variety of turnip we grew was the purple top white globe. There are MANY other varieties such as Golden Ball turnip, Just Right turnip, Orange Jelly Turnip, Royal Grown Turnip, Royal Globe Turnip, Tokyo Cross turnip, White Egg turnip and the White Lady Turnip just to name a few. They are all sooo EASY and AFFORDABLE to grow!
We grow using various different gardening methods including Back to Eden method, raised beds, container gardening, several trellis systems and more.

It’s honestly one of my favorite ways to use turnips…they soak up all the flavor (chefs kiss) so good! ESPECIALLY if you dehydrate them for storage and don’t rehydrate them in water but let them rehydrate in the stew/soup…DEFINITELY the best way to go IMO

I love to grow turnips because I love to harvest the greens while they’re growing and I harvest those multiple times as they grow. My turnip harvest has never been great other than the greens but probably because I keep eating the greens! And you shared a lot of info that was so interesting! Thank you for sharing! 😊❤

First time here. I like the "beginning to end" way of filming--from garden to belly. But I guess the best part is that the kid(s) are involved. Hugely important they learn young the real process of getting food into you. City dwellers tend to think food comes from stores. And for my 2 cents, let dem ladies cluck away. For me, it adds rather than detracts. Thanks. Keep breathin'.
@AbundantAcresHomestead
@AbundantAcresHomestead 10 месяцев назад
I agree I love getting our granddaughter involved as much as we can. I know "country" people that would RATHER buy from the store because "it's been FDA approved" haha It is crazy how out of touch society has become to "real" food.

Hey, a big thank you from us here. We love turnips, and typically get them free from folks that set out feed plots for deer. The deer ignore the bottoms, but eat the greens. We clean them, cut them into 1" or so chunks, and simply bag and deep freeze them. They keep for YEARS. Then just boil them with some bacon and a little sugar. Oddly, one never, ever, finds turnips in the store... weird, beings we are in the South. The closing tip for the hobo potatoes, well, we shall def. try that, and since our deer plot guy moved off, we shall plant our own, now. If you haven't already done so, take in a view of the old movie "Tobacco Road", it has a really funny set of scenes involving turnips. "Just a little bite, Love", and the following. Bye bye for now..

First off...LOVE the name boogerhead (we call all the littles in our family boogerhead) LOL Turnips are definately a forgotten about veggie. We're in the midwest but I wouldve thought the south they'd be more readily available honestly. Hobo "potatoes" and loaded turnip soup is probably our two favorite ways to eat turnips. You're right they last FOREVER...way longer than potatoes, much easier to store. I'll check the movie out, thanks for sharing!

Good evening from a cold and frosty England. I multi sow my turnip seeds, four or five to a module and plant them out when they are still relatively small, about two inches tall. As I am just growing for my wife and myself a row sown every four weeks gives us enough to last most of the year.
