This is my first attempt at a tutorial video. I've never recorded a voice over before so please go easy and try and ignore when I keep calling BIA and Javelin filters!
I wanted to explain how we should all focus less on voices and more on modulation, and hope this helps you think about the setup you may be considering and get a good reverb, filter and gate and CV modulation modules.

Great video and I LOVE this setup. Makes me want to take 9U down to a 6U focus case. :)

I have to say it really does help you focus on what you’re trying to do!

Glad you’re enjoying its. Still learning how to record voice and edit video and a long way to go. Next up is Rings which arrived today so got a similar tutorial coming with that. It’s completely blown me away.

Very nicely done. Considering a small set up for live performance, as an improv/adjunct source for my drum machines. 👌🏼

Thanks, small sometimes works better. Currently working on a BIA, M8, Mimeophon setup

thanks bud, really good video and set at a good pace, well explained and makes a good insight.... is there an additional module you would like to have which compliments this set?
@markbooth

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback. I’m working on another video to see how much you can get out of the case. Replacing the Quad VCA and Desmodus with a Mimeophon which can act as delay, reverb, filter, and even mixer. Not easy to record in one take though.

@@markbooth Good stuff... will watch this recent Vid. Would be good to see you make good of TINRS Wobbler with Desmodus & Plaits if possible?
@markbooth
@markbooth 2 года назад
Unfortunately I don’t have a Wobbler but I think that trio would make a great voice mix!

Super useful tutorial! What's the brand of these fat patchcables?
@markbooth
@markbooth 2 года назад
Thanks, I enjoy making them as I struggled for help when starting out so wanted to document my learning process. The cables are braided PolarNoise. Not great for tutorials but seem super strong. www.amazon.com/Eurorack-Patch-Cables-Braided-Synthesizers/dp/B07S8HRY67

very nice video, it just triggers me that your signal flow is right to left ^^ i have a 3 row case, top row being 1U. My main signal flow is in the bottom row, with the oscillators left, filters middle, VCA right and then sequencing and modulation is in the middle row.

Lol check out most of my other videos if you want some much needed therapy. I usually flow left to right. I suspect I had the audio interface out of shot on the left here for some reason. Madness I know 😂

Hi, i'm late to the party, but as i watched your great video i'm just wondering where does the kick comes from ? it's not the BIA right ? thank you
@markbooth
@markbooth Год назад
Hi and glad you're enjoying the channel. Just taken a look and at 10:54 the kick and hats are added from Squid Salmple. Channel 3 (kick) & 4 (hats) on the Quad VCA have the long black cables coming in from it. The 4 yellow outputs are then going out to Expert Sleepers ES-9 and mixed in Ableton with a little side chain compression and a default Ozone mastering mix to bring the levels up for RU-vid. Hope this helps and there are plenty more similar videos more recently if interested.

@@markbooth thank you for the quick feedback ! yes that helps, if you confirm that those are coming from other sources that means i'm not that stupid. haha . Will check your other videos for sure, cheers !

@@bertrandvanasch I try and say where extra sound sources are coming from more recently so people don’t think there is cheating going on in small system sound setups.
@bertrandvanasch

@@markbooth yes i saw that in another of your videos. Though honestly i wouldn't think "cheating" but more "what have i missed here ... hmm ?" 😅

Some people like to comment that it’s not representative of what you can hear which is fair enough. I just want to focus on showing the main voice though where possible

how much have you spent on eurorack???? daaaaamn son !

Probably too much but it all holds its value quite well

Because beginners have over a grands worth of modules in 62hp
@markbooth

First spend on modular gear is not cheap, I agree. My initial spend was about £2200, plus I had a Mother 32 and DFAM at the time which got me into it more.
@stolencoats63
@stolencoats63 2 года назад
That's actually a very reasonable beginner rack. It's not a cheap thing to get into and anything from 1000-2000 is pretty much a budget setup in eurorack. Can easily and quickly drop multiple thousands on a rack.
@markbooth
@markbooth 2 года назад
Sadly, yes, this is an expensive hobby. There are cheaper modules out there that can do similar but they may be lesser known and difficult to find info on.
@sonicspecter
@sonicspecter Год назад
I think it is not an expensive hobby! The money you have invested in the rack is not depleted and it costs only time and a little electricity when you use it. If you sell your gear you might have a loss around 20-30% of your investment, but much less when you initially bought second hand or DIY. If you are lucky having modules that got collectibles, you might even make a profit on selling your gear. Compare that to any other mid-live-crisis-hobby…

You have a valid point… assuming someone can afford the outlay first
