This Flow Aid is for Acrylic Paint Only
Here is what you’ll need:
A Container for your Flow Aid, I’m using a 10ml Dropper bottle.
Some Glycerine, this was £1 from a supermarket.
Some De-Ionised or Distilled Water.
And a Pipette for measuring.

Commercial or DIY, always give it a gentle shake and let the bubbles settle out...shouldnt take long. Great video Steff and a nice alternative to commercial stuff. Works pretty well as a quick lube for sticky airbrush parts as well, like between color changes!

What you made is not flow aid. It is retardant. Adding it to acrylic paint when airbrushing slows down the drying so it does not dry in the air before hitting the surface. Flow aid is a surface tension reducer that helps the paint flow (self level) once it is on the surface. Using both at the same time is often helpful to get a smooth paint job.

I disagree. The glycerine allows the paint to flow easier. Also, I never said anything about adding it to an airbrush! I also know how everything works, so stop being a troll!!! Your not educating, you’re dictating!!! Also, if I have got it wrong, which after extensive research I believe I haven’t, then please do correct me, please do tell me what goes in a flow aid!

I gotta agree here. Flow aid is a surfactant.

@@BudgetModelleri agree with him. I know you didn't specifically talk about airbrush, but acrylic isn't just reserved for using with a paint brush, and in spray guns it's crucial that it doesn't dry inside as it can gunk up the inside, which I have experienced first hand with spraying nails. Glycerines unique capability resides in being able to draw moisture from its surroundings, which is why it's often a key component in hand creams, even vaping devices and fog machines. You might seemingly reach a better flow with it as it lets the paint dry slower and makes it workable for longer without drying -and self leveling. Since flow aid is available in many countries that require chemical declaration of its composition, it's quite easy to tell you exactly what's in it: Oxirane, methyl-, polymer with oxirane, monophenyl ether and ar-styrenated - you could of course try and mix it all, but I don't recommend that 😅 -some of these ingredients are also found in dishwasher rinse aid, but I like mixing it with a drop of propylene glycol too. Try it out and feel the difference, it's very noticeable ❤ Xx

A flow aid would be dish soap dissolved in a bunch of water. Glycerin is not a flow aid, as it does not meaningfully change the surface tension of the paint, as it is not a surfactant.@@BudgetModeller

@@HappiSabi Hey! I just bought propylene glycol and I have some dishwasher rinse aid. In what proportions should I mix them with my thinner? (1/3 IPA, 2/3 water) Should I put some glycerin as well in the mix? Thanks!
