Yes, I would love to see a behind the scenes video on your equipment and how you set things up. I am always wondering about that as I watch your videos.

OMG, I never thought about using wash a way for doing buttonholes and my sewing machine hates knit buttonholes, I can’t wait to try it. Thank you so much Whitney, your the best.

I recently completed two spring cardigans in lovely knits and have been dreading doing the buttonholes. After watching this video twice, I plan to do a couple of practices and then take the plunge. Wish me luck.

Great idea with the water soluble stabilizer. I use that stabilizer in strips for my rolled hems on the Serger & they come out fabulous! Great way to use up left over scraps from my embroidery.
@TomKatStitchery

I do that on my rolled serger hems as well!

Good to know about the Jersey and ballpoint needles, I always get the stretch because they’re easiest to find, but I’ve wanted to get the jersey and ballpoint needles to try. Good to know I don’t necessarily need to. :)

I like the Schmetz size 11 Stretch needles for the cotton/spandex jersey.

Thank you I had a hard time on sewing buttons on a cardigan and the was pretty stretchy and the machine kept eating the fabric and the button holes would be really tight and bunch up.

Great tutorial. I love the addition of the water soluble stabilizer. One question - I've always sewed my buttons on so that the holes in the button were vertical when the buttonhole was vertical and horizontal when the buttonhole was horizontal. Is there any reason why you chose to sew the button on with the holes horizontally?
@WhatWeDoChannel
@WhatWeDoChannel 2 года назад
That is the same thing I was wondering. I was taught to sew with the button’s holes going in the same direction as the buttonhole. Please comment. Thanks! Julie A.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 2 года назад
I think it's really more of an aesthetic preference. I usually sew my 2 hole buttons horizontal and my 4 hole buttons diagonally. I really just fine it easier to do them that way on the machine.

Thank you for this video! One question: Does the fray check get on the iron soleplate and, if so, how doyouclean it off?
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 2 года назад
No. I don't notice any residue from the fray check. I have a teflon foot that covers the shoe plate on my iron that cleans really easily, but I also use iron cleaner from Wawak if I have any interfacing oopsies!
@susanlawlor7201
@susanlawlor7201 Год назад
@@TomKatStitchery Thanks! I love Wawak. I'll take a look at the iron cleaner.

Thank you for sharing because I tried last year on a cardigan and I had issues with the interfacing and making the buttonholes, thanks for showing the stabilizer and steaming the buttonholes. Also what kind of markers are you using?
@TomKatStitchery

I'm so glad this was helpful! I was using the Frixion pens in this video. They are my favorite marking tool.

What’s the name of Wash a way stabilizer? Does Joanne’s sell it by the bolt? I’m always just buying the little packets.
@kandacek63
@kandacek63 2 года назад
They might. I know sometimes you can find the rolls in the craft section. I got mine off Amazon in 2020 during the lockdown when I was making a robe for my Mom.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 2 года назад
I got mine on the bolt from Hancock Fabric when they were going out of business. I would check JoAnns in the interfacing/stabilizer section. They may have it by the bolt as well.
