If you have a Lenovo T440, it may have a free M.2 SATA slot you can use to install a second SSD. Here's a tutorial on how to install one. I apologize for the audio since I was using a GoPro.
I just bought this laptop cheaply from ebay, found your video, checked the prices for m2.sata ssd and man I am happy! ssds in this format are cheap and incredibly fast :D
help, i installed Windows 10 in a 2tb m2 ssd 2242 slot, partitions it and it runs normal, and when i add 2tb 2.5 hdd in the normal hdd bay (not ultrabay) the system is not reading my 2.5 HDD.. any solution?
So I'm deciding between the T440p and the T440. It seems the T440 at least has 2 m2 slots. Does the T440p have two too? Because no one is clear on this.
There are like 4 sizes or m2, you ahould check your pc size before getting one, usually the large size are for desktops, but some gaming laptops admit em’
I installed a Transcend MTS420 SSD in my T440p. Windows doesn't want to install to it, says "may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the Computer's BIOS menu." what BIOS version do you have ? i got 1.14 but I see no way to change anything in it regarding that M.2 sata port. Other than that it works great as a second non-booting drive. Any tips ?
Hi there, i have a T440p without WWAN card but a free M.2 slot. May you please give the exact type of the new SSD you installed? Is this slot a M.2-M-Key Version? Actually i am investigatin if it is possible to use this port to connect external GPU docking station. Thank you.
Yes it is. The WWAN card slot is PCI express and will support eGPU as long you can find a m.2 to pcie adapter (and the laptop is kept up with the back cover open, that is).
Hey Bro, can you tell me the Model of the M.2 SSD you bought. Struggling to find info online. I reckon I'm gonna remove my modem and whack in an extra M.2 SSD. Would be great to have one drive for Pro-Tools then second for recording to!! Thanks
Hi there! After two months I see this error message before the start: "2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)". I looking for on google, but didn't understand nothing. Anyone here can help me?
It is a 42 mm MT400 m.2 SSD. Not the fastest but easy. There are not many of this form factor - an alternative is to get a DVD caddy that will host a full-size SSD. It is all SATA so no speed difference.
@@kennethwong580 I think the model you presented is the old one. I managed to install the M.2 SSD, I found the manual, also uploaded a small video where it is, the slot is very small so only a 4.5 cm long module fits.
it also could be a compatibility issue. some oem manufacturers have a whitelist of compatible hardware like ram or wifi cards. i've never heard of ssd compatibility issues but doesnt hurt to do a little research
Vale cualquier M2 o tiene que ser de una medida en especifico? Veo que el del vídeo es un poco más corto, los que encuentro en Amazon por ejemplo, se ven más largos
I have lenovo E540. Same situation, have a m.2 slot but no wwan card present. Now, can I install m.2 2242 sdd just like what you did, disregarding the structure of the pins? Hope someone sees this Thanks in advance
I suggest you check if the space of the m.2 will allow your ssd to fit. In theory, you should be able to use that slot to install any compatible device like an SSD. Good luck :)
@@MotoHK1 look close to the slot Is it something like yours? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hEFEouadE3o.html The SSD itself too They're different
của tôi chạy ssd 850evo 120gb mà máy thấy khởi động k fai quá nhanh. mất 30s để khởi động, tôi có chạy caddybay HDD 500gb. của tôi thinkpad t440p i5, 8gb ram. 1366x768. k biết m2 ssd 2242 như của bac chạy có ổn định không
it may not be formatted yet to a filesystem that windows understands. try to find disk management in your computer and format is. are you using windows mac or linux?
one year later, how's it been going?. because the manual warn some things like: "M.2 solid-state drive for caching only" "you are not recommended to use the M.2 solid-state drive as a bootable device. If you use the M.2 solid-state drive as a bootable device, its reliability is not guaranteed."
T440s here. I swapped out my 16gb caching drive with a 256gb m.2 sata 2 years ago and have been running fine since. I think the manual might have been referring to the original 16gb caching drive. I don't think it would be a good idea to install a primary OS in that small of a space. For instance, Manjaro recommends 30gb minimum, Ubuntu recommends 25gb minimum. (I only know that because I looked it up yesterday).
@@elgeneral43 I realize that this is probably a year late, but if it doesn't help you maybe it'll help someone YouTubing for a plan. When you go to install Windows, make sure you don't allocate the entire drive. I did, and now I'm having trouble shrinking my main partition to give Linux some room. Windows is being a jerk.
abhajihadi i have one t440 (pf-02m750) and I do have a free slot... but this is ment for wwan. And the m.2 has a different pin at the end..? Does your fit perfect? It has two notchs/cuts.. does your tray have also ? As the m.2?
why stop at just 2? you could put in at very least 3 and run in raid (with hacked bios) more than 3 should be possible but would require some trickery, one nvme drive should work inside the wi-fi slot with a key adapter, then another should be possible soldering sata to dock pins
Please tell me where I can send you $20 so you can buy a damn decent microphone - one you don't keep dropping or otherwise blowing out my speakers by having to keep the volume high to hear you. Jeez...
