As part of the Tower project I decided I wanted to see if I could pick up a few local TV stations out in the garage. I still have an old tube type TV out there and It would be nice to have it setup for days that I am working on various projects.
You can get one here: amzn.to/4buzDdp
This is part one, and to be honest, I don't have high hopes of this thing being able to get those stations. It built poorly and Looks like A coat hanger antenna might have been a better investment, but who knows.

I have one of those antennas. It works great here in Tecumseh Michigan, but around here it's all flat back to Detroit or to Toledo. I get all the Toledo, Bowling Green, Detroit, and Windsor tv stations. Sometimes when the weather and conditions are just right, I can get Cleveland, Lansing, and Jackson. One thing I found out about this antenna is, it's looking for that 75 ohms from the supplied cable to work properly. I had mine hooked up to the remnants of the cable tv system that's still on the house; thought I would get away and save a step, but it didn't work. Once the supplied cable was installed, I had 40 channels. I later rescanned just past sundown, and picked up 57 channels. Overall, I'm happy with the way the antenna is working, and it has been up the now for years. Now if there was only something worth while to watch.

That's crazy. I don't have this antenna but I've tried 3-4 other ones from $5 to $65. I can literally see the tops of buildings in downtown Toledo from my house in northern Wood County. I can't hardly get anything on TV. And that's on 3 tv's, 1 with a converter and 2 without.

We did as you say cut the cord.I have that exact antenna for my house. Been using these for about 8 years and I am on my second unit.( I found out I only needed to replace my coax on the first but i replaced it all.) I pull about 40 channels.Mounted about 10ft up on a 6X6 with a 3ft pole at the front of my house. Perfect off my front deck. I am in Western NY between Buffalo and Rochester and this thing has taken -35 temps and snow and 80 mph wind gust. For $29.00 WTH. I keep a spare on hand just in case. Love them.Funny thing is i pull my best reception with it pointing straight at the house about 4 ft away. Go figure. Thanks for the videos.New Sub

It does seem to be working pretty well. I get one set of channels very well and another at right at the works/doesn't work line. Not bad for my are of the world.

I have the same one. It’s works good. Sometimes the rotor gets stuck and you have to physically turn it to get it to move again.

I got one like this the other day (Lead ZM brand) off of eBay and installed it. It works but the "150 miles" printed on the box refers to the range diameter with the antenna located in the middle. The radius of reception is more like 75 miles. The furthest stations I can pick up after the sun sets is about 75 miles (Detroit TV stations). During the day I can only pick up the local stations which are about 20 to 30 miles from my house.

Sounds about right. I'm still impressed with it's preformance nearly a year later.

I put one in my attic on a short piece of mast, it works pretty dagone good. Trying to figure out a way to tell where it's pointed from below in the garage.

When times were a bit tough, and cable was a luxury, I went the "free tv" route. Granted, I am not located in the mountains so my reception is not hindered, per se, but I installed one of these ( www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=HD-7010 ) about 10+ years ago and I am able to pick up roughly 40 channels, all digital and some in HD. Needed a signal booster but the range of reception was way more than I had expected. Being it's directional I just got on tvfool.com and pointed it in the direction of the most transmitters. I can get stations better than 50 miles out if the signal's strong enough. Still use it daily.

Hello Erik, got a few questions if you don't mind. 1) what is the frequency range of that antenna, I noticed you stated it was a VHF/UHF antenna. 2) the black box that controls the rotor, is that just for rotating the beam or is is a signal decoder as well. I take it that the coax doesn't hook from the antenna directly into the television?. I would love to ditch cable/ dish network companies all together, there are only maybe a half dozen stations I watch, like History channel, CNN news and channels of the like, I have no need for 150 channels which is like a basic cable/ dish package which costs almost a buck a channel per month where I'am from and I call crap on that, got better things I can spend that sort of money on. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards, Eric Dee.

I had mine installed and it's cheap, doesn't pick up anything clearly and the company hasn't responded yet, it's been over a month. The rotor won't turn, I live within 9 miles of several TV towers. Took it down and put up a digital and got clear reception and many more channels.

The box that power is plugged into, does it amplify the signal as well or it is just a way to control the rotation ? Also Why Tv1 and Tv2 outputs are separate, what is the difference ? Please help me understand, Thanks
@FarpointFarms
@FarpointFarms 4 года назад
Yes, the box is the pre-amp, and antenna rotor controller. The box also works as a splitter with the a/b outputs so it can be used on 2 TV's

You skipped a step in the antenna assembly process. .How do you lock the reflectors in place? The slider locks on my antenna won't budge. I fear if I use a hammer and screwdriver the sliders will snap off.

there is a plastic fix trick I saw, don't know if it will work for it. take baking soda and put it on the plastic and then super glue it, the guy said that the trick is used on helicopter blades to fill in nicks. good luck and be safe.

Hey, thanks for the trick! I'll give it a shot.

This unit is not weatherproof at all. The preamp circuit board is inside. The first rain or snow could damage the circuit board or rotor motor. Applied clear silicone on mine before installing.

i have one thatis exactly same except no reflector plates. its works great as new, but the weather will take a toll on it, but in a couple of years it will break. plan on getting one with no rotator and dont use their cable. use qyad shirlded cable... the cable is junk too...

This antenna useful in India? It will work to receive singnal from sarelite? Please reply to me.
@FarpointFarms
@FarpointFarms 5 лет назад
It may work in India, but it will not recieve Sat signals. You'll need a dedicated 30 to 40 inch dish for that.

Hey guys, do I need to ground this Antenna?

All outdoor antennas should be grounded to help prevent damage from a lighting strike.

Hey, Enjoyed the video, thanks. I was anxious to find out how it performed. I went into your RU-vid home page, click in videos and scrolled through. I found this one but not a follow up on performance. I am in a fringe area and have wondered about the 150 mile claim. Been a couple of years since I was looking at these. If the price has dropped I may just give one a try anyway.
