Good to hear this. TV is the way I get sleepy on most nights, without pills, without late-night snacks, in a quiet way.

Tv is the bandaid to your problems there are probably healthier ways you can work on your sleep long term while you use the tv short term. Personally for me, I refuse to sleep in so I can be tired at night

I find that when I start to ruminate in bed, having a ticking clock to shift my attention to really helps me relax. I also find on a cold night that having a hot water bottle in bed with me helps as well. I find both comforting. I usually like to have cool feet at night, but if my feet feel too cold, I put the hot water bottle under or beside my feet for a little while, and I doze off easily!

Love the acknowledgment of all the concerns associated with tv. However also agree that for patients who have trialed everything else and need the background noise, the tv might actually not be the worst option with parameters in place!

Audio books, video, anything that distracts me helps me get to sleep.

I have to say, back in the day...before Ambien, Trazadol, or Benadryl and a glass of wine...there was the original "Dune"- sound turned way down, timer set on the TV and VCR, blue light flickering through my eye lids...sleep was almost instataneous!

I can fall asleep, no problem. When the 3 AM gremlins show up though…one earphone, my iPhone and old Dynasty reruns on the Pluto app and I’m back out in 15 minutes 😁

Thank you! I felt guilty for this habit for years and it wasn't until about two years ago that I finally accepted it. I need either an audio book or the tv to fall asleep, I tried different stuff over the years but nothing else worked. It's always light entertainment like a sitcom I already watched a dozen times, it puts me in a good mood and relaxes me. Also I use a sleep timer - I started with 60 minutes but it turned out I don't even need that amount of time, usually I'm asleep after 30 minutes. 😊

i have a stressful job that requires me to work on a shift pattern around the clock. i put silly sitcoms on my iphone with the “night shift” feature on before bed and i fall asleep within 10 minutes like a baby 😂

only it doesn't. If you cant sleep without a screen you have some MAJOR problem to work out

I disagree. If it works why try to fix it?

Because long term it's not a solution. Lots of people can't sleep without sleeping pills, or even coffee in the morning, believe it or not. So many basic factors need to be addressed before just saying "hey if it works for you great". @@TheSleepDoctor

We have always watched TV near the sleep time and we haven’t had any sleep issues because of that.

Podcasts and no screens > TV ANY DAY. The blue light is no joke, especially on these massive 65" panels.

I have MANY patients who can easily fall asleep with the TV on and actually their sleep is WORSE when its off. Everyone is different, so I am disagreeing with the idea that EVERYONE needs to sleep in total quiet and darkness.

You would be applying a bandaid solution and not actually addressing the CAUSE. And that's lack of melatonin. Why? Not enough natural sunlight in the day? Too much artificial light in the day? ALAN? @@TheSleepDoctor
