Parent Time, a New Zealand-made television programme, aimed to support parents by providing guidance on how to enhance their interactions with their children.
The programme covered a variety of topics such as parenting advice from grandparents, health and safety measures, behavioural guidance, family nutrition, developmental milestones and activities to promote children's play and learning. Each edition of Parent Time spanned five minutes and was recorded at the former TVNZ studios in Dunedin.
Produced by Rex Simpson of Kids TV for TV3 (now Three) with funding from NZ On Air, Parent Time was launched in July 1992 as a companion programme to You and Me, a popular preschool series brimming with games, songs and stories. Pauline Cooper (ex-Play School) initially presented both Parent Time and You and Me.
In 1993 Hilary Muir Clark (former presenter of TVNZ's Dunedin-based regional news magazine programme, The South Tonight) became the presenter of Parent Time while Suzy Cato, a familiar face from the Early Bird Show (EBS) and 3PM on TV3 at the time, took over as the host of You and Me. This marked a shift to separate presenters for each programme.
Here are the opening titles for Parent Time's fourth year (1996), in which the programme was sponsored by Treasures Nappies and branded as "Treasures Parent Time". This was preceded by an ident for TV3 ("The Best Things in Life Are 3") and followed by a first few seconds of the programme with Hilary Muir Clark as host.
